Certain key fobs also come with a physical key that can be used to open your vehicle (often for the driver's side door, but occasionally the boot too). The Keylab can access them by lifting the flap or pressing a button. The key can then be removed from a slot in the case to access the lock.
Key fobs can get damaged by water, particularly when the chips within them are exposed to soapy or salty water. In some cases chips that are damaged could cause key fobs to stop working. If this happens the key fob has to be replaced - typically by the dealer. Locksmiths can replace keys faster and at a lower price than dealerships.
Remote Start
If your key fob comes with the remote start feature it can start the engine without needing to have your car keys in hands. This is particularly helpful when it's hot and you're looking to cool down your car while you run errands. There are a few points you must know before you use this feature.
Certain key fobs have an engine start button you can press to start your vehicle remotely (for instance, Ford has a circular arrow that moves clockwise on its key fob). Mazdas, for example require you to lock the key first and then press the Start button.
If you're unable to start your car, it could be that you have a dead or weak battery inside the key fob. This is due to the fact that the batteries inside the key fob aren't able to send an effective signal to the car's system.
If this happens, you'll need to either replace the batteries, or re-program your key fob. The procedure is different for each vehicle, however the instructions are usually found in the owner's manual. Door Locks
The Peugeot 3008 remote system enables you to lock or unlock your car by pressing a button on your key fob. The key fob, which is different from the standard key that has a physical hole, holds an encrypted copy of the car keys inside.
To do this, it utilizes a unique radio signal which is only sent when the key is within a certain distance of the car. When the signal is recognized an internal solenoid within the door lock transforms the electronic command into a mechanical action. This triggers a rod that is used to operate the car door locks as keys used to do.
If you find that your Peugeot key fob isn't locking or unlocking the vehicle, there are a variety of possible reasons for the issue. The most frequent reason is a dead battery. It can be repaired in a matter of minutes. Other causes are worn buttons, water damage signal interference or a damaged electronic chip.
Modern cars require a very precise level of accuracy to function and the key fob isn't immune to this. The key fob might be programmed incorrectly or it could have a hardware defect that hinders the vehicle from responding to the signal generated by the key. A certified locksmith can reprogram your key fob to ensure that it is compatible with your vehicle.
Immobiliser
Peugeot were one of the first car makers to incorporate an immobiliser chip in the key. The immobiliser chip stops the car from starting if it detects an error in the signal sent from the key to the car. This is a great feature in the beginning however over time, the chips may wear out and cause problems. This usually starts with getting a message saying 'anti theft system active' on the dashboard, or a warning light flashing with the message 'immobiliser fault'.
Normally Peugeot dealerships are asked to create and program replacement keys. A mobile locksmith will use dealer-standard equipment in their van. This means that they can design new Peugeot keys at home or at the roadside faster than a dealership.
