[BASICS] Overview of Lisbell’s role, strengths, and how to unlock her.
Lisbell is a high damage character specialized in weapon-based Lumino Damage. Her powerful Consonance Weapon, Samael, has great reach and easily staggers basic enemies.
How to unlock: Mystic Maze rogue-lite game mode offers her thoughts and secret letters. If you clear the first two difficulties of Mystic Maze you will get 20 thoughts and 16 secret letters, which gives you a very good chance of getting the 30 total thoughts needed to unlock Lisbell. If your luck is abysmal, you'll have to clear the third difficulty in order to unlock Lisbell.
[SKILLS] Detailed breakdown of Basic, Ultimate, and Passive Skills.
Basic Skill - "In the Name of Patience"
• Lisbell's jumping buzzsaw Skill.
• Usefulness: Poor for damage as it does not benefit from crit or weapon damage boosts like Samael does. Only level this to unlock Lisbell's passive ATK Nodes.
• After Intron 1: Grants +35% ATK for 15s.
• Until then: Functions as a mediocre gap closer (but you can also just use Helical Leap).
Ultimate Skill - "That's It!"
• Lisbell's defining ability and the core of her entire playstyle.
• Effect: Performs a modest AoE slash in front of her, then replaces her current Melee Weapon with the Consonance Weapon Samael.
• Weapon Type: Samael is a Greatsword that is treated as both a Melee Weapon and a Skill, and has 4 Wedge Slots that can only use Melee Consonance Wedges.
• Duration: Samael has no time limit; you can toggle it on or off by activating the Ultimate again.
• Greatly increases Lisbell's Melee Reach and stagger potential. You will cleave and ragdoll entire rooms of enemies like a Dynasty Warriors character.
• Centralizes all of her scaling Stats around Samael's attacks and modifiers. This can make her somewhat confusing to build, but this guide should help.
• Many of Lisbell's Passives, Wedges, and build decisions are only active or relevant while Samael is equipped. Never don't use Samael.
Tips:
• Because Samael counts as both a Skill and a Weapon, buffs that affect either category (like the Main Character's Weapon DMG buff) will apply.
• You build Combo Levels while charging Samael's slam and lose them after the slam attack completes, but you can keep the built up Combo if you dash cancel the charge before the slam comes out.
• You may sometimes get the message "Feature unavailable in current state" or "Unable to operate in current state" when you try to do something while Samael is equipped. You'll have to toggle Samael off to perform these actions. Examples include using emotes, fishing, and reviving dead allies.
Passive Skill - "Hmph!!"
• Core Mechanic: Enhances Combo Level importance far beyond that of other characters.
• Samael's range and Trigger Probability both increase with Combo Level.
• Performing Samael's charged slam consumes all Combo, but you retain the bonus effects for a generous 12-second grace period, which scales with Skill Duration.
• Whenever Lisbell gains Combo Level, she emits a small burst of Lumino Skill Damage around her.
• How to Utilize: Aggressively attack groups of enemies, relying on Samael's stagger to keep you safe while you build Combo. Maintain Combo until you want to delete a group of enemies or a particularly tanky enemy, then spend it all on a charged slam. Go find more enemies to attack while your blade is still powered up to quickly rebuild Combo.
[INTRONS] Analysis of all six Introns and their practical value.
Disclaimer:
I don't have these yet so the information here is speculative.
• Intron 1: Using "In the Name of Patience" increases character ATK by 35% for 15 seconds.
You will only notice this if you manage to get it at a low level; later on you will have so much attack that this small increase will not matter.
• Intron 2: When damage triggers a bonus effect, gain 1 additional combo point.
This is a very nice boost to combo gain, directly proportional to Samael's trigger probability. That's 25% at minimum, quickly scaling up to more than double that with "Hmph!!" levels. Being able to more quickly reach max combo and deliver full power slams for low sanity cost makes this one of Lisbell's best Introns. Interestingly, any trigger proc can build this combo, including procs from ranged weapons, assuming you have your melee weapon out when the proc occurs.
• Intron 3: Nothing special, minor bonuses to basic skill and passive.
• Intron 4: When Combo Level increases, gains 5 additional combo points.
You need 120 Combo points to reach S, and this effectively reduces that amount by 20. That means you reach S rank about 17% faster, which is noticeably less impactful than Intron 2. However, due to earlier combo levels requiring less hits to reach the next tier, this effect will be most noticeable at the early parts of your combo. All in all, this will probably make Lisbell's efforts to get combo points against single targets like Bosses much easier.
• Intron 5: Nothing special, but 2 levels to Samael's damage is a welcome boost.
• Intron 6: After using "That's It!" or Samael's Charged Attack, gains 30% additional Lumino Damage for 15 seconds.
This is very nice, as Lumino damage is a rare bonus. If we assume your only other source of Lumino damage is a Skylume wedge (18% before dupes) then this is about a 25% damage increase for every skill in Lisbell's kit, including Samael's sword swings. Note that you don't need S rank slams to trigger this bonus, so it will be easily accessible even during boss fights where combo rank can be hard to build.
[GEARING] Stat priorities and how they affect Samael’s performance.
Here's a list of what scales Lisbell's Samael Damage unless noted otherwise. In order to avoid diminishing returns, the rarest modifiers are the highest priority.
- Lumino DMG
- Morale
- Skill DMG
- Lumino ATK
- Smash ATK
- Attack Speed
- Critical Hit Chance/Critical DMG
- ATK
- Skill Efficiency: Makes charging Samael's slam cheaper, but usually not an issue outside of boss battles. Less useful after Intron 2, as combo becomes much easier to build.
- Skill Duration: Only affects the grace period of her passive's bonuses.
- Skill Range Only affects range of Basic Skill and Passive's shockwaves from combo, neither of which are significant sources of damage.
- Resolve Potentially strong but keeping Lisbell at low HP is unreasonably difficult.
[WEDGES-LISBELL] Recommended Character Wedges and their effects.
The above stats are always good, but here are some of their best sources:
• Prime: Gives a chunk of ATK with some HP and DEF to keep you alive, but the real draw here are the Passive effects. Morale gives 18% damage at max HP, easy to keep up thanks to Samael's ability to stagger enemies. Uplift offers an unconditional 11% damage to both you and your allies, making it great for party play. Unfortunately Uplift and other party-wide passives from these wedges don't stack, so unless you coordinate with your group, you'll have to accept that you might be wasting stats by bringing Uplift.
• Prismatic Neon: A signature Lumino Wedge that gives Skill Duration, which is a mostly mediocre Stat for Lisbell. However, the Passive grants 40% increased Critical Chance which is otherwise impossible to get from a Character Wedge. Due to Samael's limited Consonance Wedge Slots, this has a high value.
• Skylume.Volition: The only source of Lumino ATK in Character Wedges, and also accompanied by Skill DMG. Save yourself some Tolerance budget by not using the purple-tier version Skylume.Midnight Sun, as that version only gains Skill Duration. Later when you've done enough grinding to get access to amplified golden wedges, you can graduate to +5 Skylume.Midnight Suns.
• Duel: If you need boss-killing power, get it here.
• Volition: Budget pure Skill DMG, an excellent Stat.
• Nirvana.Volition: Stackable Skill DMG like Volition, but costs more Tolerance. Most useful at very late game with full Forma/Stat Tracks.
• Scorch: Stackable Pure ATK, a great Stat.
• Blaze: Budget pure ATK, good early when you might have slots but low tolerance.
[WEDGES-SAMAEL]: Best Melee Consonance Wedges for Samael.
There are only a few Melee Consonance Wedges, so let's rank them.
- Crusher and/or Impetus - Smash ATK and basic ATK. These both increase Samael's base attack by the same amount, and you're always going to want to use at least one of them. Currently it doesn't seem like many outside bonuses can affect Samael's attack, so neither wedge will feel the diminishing returns that Character ATK can, and thus which you pick is currently irrelevant.
- Focus - Critical Chance. It's hard to get Critical Chance on Consonance Weapons, but Critical Hits are very, very good. When combined with Prismatic Neon, Samael's crit chance becomes 36%, and if combined with Daphne bot, it becomes 44%.
- Rage - Critical Damage. Critical Hits are very, very good. Worth more than it seems, as this bonus is multiplied by Samael's base Critical Chance; +50% Critical Damage from Rage takes Samael's Critical Damage from 200% to 300%. Each additional source of Critical Chance from Focus, Prismatic Neon, and Daphne bot make the value of this wedge skyrocket.
- Celerity - Attack Speed. A rare damage multiplier. The more attacks you make, the more you apply all of these other damage Stats to the enemy's health bar. Less effective the less time you spend attacking, potentially making this a poor choice in content with lots of downtime or when using strategies without as many basic attacks (such as charged slam spam).
- Crusher or Impetus - The one that you didn't pick earlier. If you don't have Prismatic Neon or a Daphne bot to boost your critical chance, consider replacing Rage with the other one from this pair for overall lower, but more consistent damage.
- Trammel - Trigger Probability. Triggers don't offer Lisbell much besides Stance damage, which isn't particularly important. After Intron 2, triggers also grant combo points, but between Samael's base trigger percentage and the bonus from "Hmph!!" levels, you won't realistically notice much difference with this wedge equipped.
- Threshold - ATK Range. Samael's Range bonus from Lisbell's Passive is flat, not multiplicative, so adding this wedge will only make it about 8% longer - not worth Samael's precious Consonance Wedge Slots.
Conclusion: You will always want to start with either Crusher or Impetus, as these determine the base damage that all other wedges multiply. After that, running both Focus and Rage will provide the most damage from your remaining slots, especially when combined with Prismatic Neon and/or Daphne bot to boost critical chance. After that, choose either Celerity for increased attack speed or the other Crusher/Impetus for more base damage. For strategies that rely on charged slam spamming (e.g., Intron 2 with Guixu Ratchet), attack speed is less important, so I suggest dropping Celerity for the raw damage wedge.
Wedge Set 1: All-Rounder
Impetus Focus Rage Celerity
Wedge Set 2: Slam Spam
Impetus Focus Rage Crusher
Wedge Set 3: Low Crit Chance
Impetus Focus Crusher Celerity
[OTHER-WEAPONS] Optimal stat-stick weapons and exceptions.
The only benefits of other Weapons that affect Samael are Weapon Skills that apply to Lisbell herself and not the Weapon. Examples include the Character ATK% increase from Blade Amberglow and the Skill DMG% increase from Excrisduo. Other Stats like Critical Chance, Attack Speed, and any slotted Wedges will have no effect on Samael WITH ONE EXCEPTION: Mods that increase Combo Duration such as Continuity will affect Samael's Combo Level decay. This is most likely a bug, but that's how it is.
As a result, Lisbell's best Weapons are ones that function as stat sticks for Samael, with Continuity wedges slotted into the Melee Weapon. Here are her best stat sticks:
Melee:
- Wanewraith - Unconditionally gives Skill DMG, a great stat.
- Blade Amberglow - Unconditionally gives Character ATK, a great stat.
Ranged:
- Embla Inflorescence - Gives useless Skill Range, but when "In the Name of Patience" or "Hmph!!" deal damage, grants the highest Skill DMG bonus available for a few seconds. Somewhat hard to use and keep up, especially at low Smelt Levels.
- Excrisduo - The next best source of Skill DMG after Embla Inflorescence, but unconditional, and thus more comfy.
- Rendhusk - Unconditionally gives Character ATK, a great stat.
Intron 2 Exceptions:
Lisbell's Intron 2 allows her to gain Combo from any Trigger, including those from Ranged Projectiles. However, Combo instantly resets while a Ranged Weapon is out, so to realistically take advantage of this, you need to fire a projectile and then swap away from your gun before the proc occurs. Surprisingly, some Ranged Weapons can facilitate this strange interaction, most notably Guixu Ratchet. This is most likely a bug, but that's how it is.
- Guixu Ratchet – Fires persistent saw blades that travel across the ground, seeking out enemies with a moderate turn radius. Has built-in multishot and naturally high projectile and hit count. 20% base Trigger Probability, so make sure to increase this with wedges (and use MC support for their Trigger Probability boost). While this weapon can build Combo quickly against stationary, grounded targets, it struggles against highly mobile or airborne enemies that it can't reach.
- Embla Inflorescence – Cannot gain nearly as much Combo as Guixu Ratchet, but the projectiles will lock on and automatically seek out targets after releasing the shot, so the trick still works. The weapon also passively provides its valuable Skill Damage boost. Has a higher base Trigger Chance at 30%, but you'll still want to bump that up and add multishot wedges. Also consider projectile speed reduction to give yourself more time to swap to Samael before the procs occur.
[PARTY] Best AI and player-controlled teammates for Lisbell.
Best AI Combat Partners for Lisbell:
• Truffle: Provides a huge damage boost for a very short time after using their basic skill, and it gets even stronger with her Intron 2. The base duration is only 6 seconds so she needs a ton of Skill Duration and Skill Efficiency to keep the buff up, but it's good.
• Daphne: Provides a rare party-wide 40% Critical Chance Passive that applies to Samael. With Intron 1, also provides an untyped 10% damage increase.
• Tabethe: Provides an excellent amount of Skill DMG to the party for a short time after using her Basic Skill (and the AI does a good job keeping the buff up). Tentacles provide crowd control that Lisbell typically doesn't need, but won't turn down.
• Main Character: Provides rare Weapon DMG bonus that applies to Samael. Also grants Trigger Probability, good for Lisbell's Intron 2.
• Margie: Provides 85% unconditional ATK to the party. Powerful earlt, but less significant as Lisbell gains her own ATK Passives and ATK Wedges.
Best Player-Controlled Teammates for Lisbell:
• Tabethe: Still provides Skill DMG and crowd control.
• Main Character: Still provides Weapon DMG and Trigger Probability.
• Truffle: Potentially still provides the damage boost from using her skill, but most players would rather build HP/Skill DMG and use the non-buffing version of her basic skill to go fast instead. Don't expect 100% damage buff uptime from Truffle players.
[FAQ]
Skill Range or Melee ATK Range?
Skill Range only increases the reach of the mediocre attack when switching to Samael and the small burst of damage when Lisbell's Combo increases - almost useless. For Melee ATK Range, Samael's Range bonus from Lisbell's Passive is flat, not multiplicative, so if you add a Range wedge to Samael it will only make it about 8% longer - not worth Samael's precious Consonance Wedge Slots.
Trigger Probability?
When bonus effects from Samael trigger, you get a Lumino/Smash proc. Lumino inflicts a damage over time effect (and refreshes other allies' elemental effects) and Smash deals bonus damage to Stance. Neither effect is amazing or worth building for on their own. At Intron 2, Samael builds extra Combo when bonus effects trigger, but Hmph's built-in Trigger Probability is good enough to see this proc often. Not worth Samael's precious Slots.
Gleam and Glimmer? Pyrothirst?
Unfortunately Gleam and Glimmer increases ATK, which is not as impactful as Skill DMG. There might be an argument for using this on a Lumino character that badly wants duration, but we currently do not have one. Even then, the maximum amount of ATK you could get is barely more than what you can get from Scorch, which is cheaper to boot. If you really want more ATK on a Lumino character, stick to Scorch.
How to get Consonance Weapon Demon Wedges?
From the Mystic Maze shop "The Spindle of Fate". You can continue to get the "Thread of Time" currency from running Mystic Maze even after capping out your weekly "Trace" goal.
Do I conserve combo or use the charged slam against bosses?
Samael's enhancement from Combo Level only grants reach and trigger probability, and you won't see a big performance increase from either against bosses. The charged slam deals significantly more damage at higher combo grades (C, B, etc.) and the damage increase is pretty much linear. As a result, in single target situations where you can't easily build a high combo, charging to reach a quick breakpoint and then slamming will give the most efficient damage per energy spent. A simple boss combo would be a basic Samael combo to get 6 combo, then charge a slam just long enough to gain 10 combo, putting you at C rank, and then slamming. This takes a chunk of energy that you probably weren't using otherwise and gives pretty good DPS. Not much changes at higher introns except that you'll reach higher breakpoints quicker.
Now, with all that being said, I would suggest being flexible with slams and reading the boss situation. Did the boss present a damage window and you're just shy of another combo rank? Do a quick charge to breach that threshold and slam. Boss about to phase transition to a long time-waster? Go ahead and get your current tier's slam out. Can you predict where the boss will end up after its time-waster? Go there and charge a surprise slam for them.
To summarize, think of Lisbell’s combo as a resource to spend intelligently, not something to hoard. Use the slam for damage whenever a safe opening appears, even if it’s only a C or B rank.
What's good to take in Mystic Maze?
As a rule of thumb you want to increase Melee Damage, Weapon Damage and Skill Damage (Samael is considered all of those) while dropping Ranged Damage. Anything from "Core Flame" boosts melee, while "Luminite" has some skill damage, and "Vamprose" has a variety of low-hp bonuses paired with survivability. Attack Speed is good, but be wary of picking up too much; you can get a nutty amount in the maze. After around 60% attack speed the camera gets wacky from Lisbell hopping around and it might give you a headache.
It's always a good idea to reroll your Lampwick rewards if there's nothing good being offered because it costs a pittance. Be wary of taking any random artefacts because you risk picking up something terrible like "Increased Ranged Damage, Decreased Melee Damage." There are plenty of good boosts in the Lantern Light Up skill tree for Lisbell, but I honestly find the Maze to be so easy that none of them are required. The primary upgrade I reccommend from that tree is the big "Trace" node in "Adaptability Boost" as it speeds up your weekly Trace grind by 20%.
