Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a complete medical history, and an evaluation using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your evaluation You will be advised if medication would be beneficial for your situation. The discussion will take place at your follow-up appointment (which can take place in person, via video link or over the phone). Your doctor will explain the different options available for you to take medication and if you decide to begin taking medication, we will suggest titrating dosage to ensure the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process may take several weeks and requires gradually altering your child’s medication until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It is not uncommon to to titrate up to three different medicines before you find the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It is essential that parents are involved in the titration process and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so that they can let the doctors know whether the medication is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay for your prescription at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to check your medications. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment is typically conducted by video conference using zoom. In some instances, it could be possible to have an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again at an additional cost).

We will then discuss the options for treatment and then decide on a bespoke, individualised ADHD medication titration. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dosage and any side effects you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any medication costs.

The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history as well as the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you may be experiencing. This is because ADHD is an inheritable condition, and it is important to look into any family history that might indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

We also suggest that you check whether your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement which means that after you have been discharged from the clinic, you will be returned to them for the prescription for medication.

Medication

For many people who seek an official diagnosis of ADHD treatment is a key part of their journey. It can be difficult to get prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.
