How to choose a good meditation cushion?

Think about your meditation posture

Common meditation postures include the traditional Full Lotus, Half Lotus, Kneeling (Seiza), Chair Sitting, and Lying (Shavasana). You can use more than one posture for meditation, such as Half Lotus for your morning meditation and then Shavasana at the end of your yoga practice. The ability to meditate in any sitting or kneeling position is largely determined by the flexibility of your ankles, knees, and hips. In most cases, some support is needed to maintain proper posture and comfort during meditation.

Meditation on round and rectangular pillows

Do you see yourself meditating on a cushion with your legs crossed or sitting on a bench or a hard round cushion as if you were kneeling (Seiza)? If you prefer the Seiza sitting style, where you sit propped up on a cushion or bench in a kneeling position,
there are small wooden benches and meditation cushions called Zafu that are designed for this. Originating in Japan, Seiza is a good choice for those who don't want to sit cross-legged. This posture encourages you to keep your back straight but doesn't put undue strain on your knees and may be right for older people or those who are simply less flexible.

If you are new to meditation, take the time to try out all the options and choose the most comfortable and sustainable for you personally.

Here are the signs of correct posture:

Your back should be straight: this helps the body stay alert and focused.
You need stability: this allows you to meditate without distractions.
Comfort is important: Make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed while meditating. If you feel out of sorts, your legs are numb, or too tense, simply change the pose or take a break and return to the meditation when you are ready.
