1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling the i3 EVO are both identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a great alternative for those who want a an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dust bin when it is full.

Both robots are proficient at removing surface dirt on floors and carpets and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart map of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we evaluated the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities, so it may get stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it may have trouble traversing transitions across surfaces like hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, which includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it may come across. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clear to avoid getting blocked. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is depleted it will return to its docking station and automatically emptying its trash into the station's external dustbin and then resumes cleaning the area where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for about an hour and a half continuous use, and takes about three hours to recharge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model of the flagship line from iRobot, and it comes with all the latest features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, an application that allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can direct your robot using the app or voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning routines and to move around the room and vacuum an area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. When connected, we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums with cords that are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model is a sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on a bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that can provide power without fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. Its cleaning head is specially designed and drives bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to suck up large crumbs and fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to suit the task being performed. It can quickly change from handheld to floor vacuum and vice versa.

This model also has docks that charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments as well as a Wand clip. This is a huge improvement over older Dysons, which require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its short running time. Its marketing claims that it can last up to 60 minutes of run time are a bit misleading as CR's tests have shown. This is a common battery-powered vacuum's run time. This is still enough to vacuum the majority of a typical-sized home but not long enough to cover every area (though an additional run-through often will suffice). However, this model doesn't have its advantages It's lighter and more maneuverable than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is superior on carpets with a low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is an entry-level model that's an excellent option for those who don't wish to spend too much money on a robot. It was able to remove most types of debris and sizes in our tests and would often go over the same area several times to give a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and navigate your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It may get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and will often run out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways, as it has fewer components that require regular maintenance It also comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.

The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of purposes, because it has a better battery life, the ability to change its suction power mode manually and comes with physical boundary strips, and is controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels more sturdy, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on both bare floors and carpets with low pile, while providing a wider array of automation features.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a brand is found on all kinds of electronic gadgets for your home It's no surprise that they're also one of the most reputable robotic vacuum and mop makers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app provides plenty of options to customize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers mopping water levels, behavior modification docking frequency settings and more. It's easy to understand and easy to use, just as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it didn't do particularly well with higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models we've tested, and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.

The app lets you access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning. This feature allows you check in on your children or pets when you're away. The dustbin and the filter can be washed for the quick and easy cleaning. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with an automatic clean station which helps keep the robot's bin clear and optimizes suction power.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for hard flooring. They feature an extra-wide cleaning path and a larger dustbin that holds 2X more debris than competitors to keep the cleaning area clear for maximum runtime. Additionally, they come with two side sweepers to clean around edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model also comes with AutoSense which adjusts the power level according to whether it's collecting dirt that is on the surface or embedded. It also comes with a smart app that lets you browse the virtual map, and control the functions and schedules. You can also monitor the status of the vacuum and connect it to the dock for charging with the click of a button. The app allows you to customize the lights on top of the vacuum with different colors, so that you can easily tell what areas it's focusing on or where it's gotten stuck.

The application also allows you to steer the robot manually should you need to. For instance, my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that has a tendency to cause confusion for other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL however, continued to move across the border without ever registering the cliff. Also, the ability to create a weekly cleaning schedule is a great time-saving convenience.
