honestly... only making this, because i'm sick of "anti irls" mfs saying the stupidest shit. and i'm tired of the misinfomation regarding those with media portrayals in the media portrayal community. eye roll. this does include reality checking, so reader's discretion.

reminder that the term "irl" was coined by a kinnie, so i do not agree with the usage of the term, but i will be using it here for simplicity's sake. if you seriously use the term da/delulu... god, seek help. also i have been studying psychology for years and im in the process of studying it for a degree at uni.

there is no medically recognised term for a person that truly believes that they are a fictional character. but that does not mean that it does not exist. psychotic disorders in itself are very complex, therefore they have not been researched to their fullest extent. anyway, i think its pretty easy to grasp how new terms within psychology can come up over time. that is how we got the terms we see today after all. update it can fall underneath unspecified delusions (probably).

first misconception... "kinnies are irls!" no. just no. dont even put the two in the same category. believing you are a fictional character requires having a psychotic disorder or experiencing symptoms of psychosis. you dont need to be experience psychosis to be a kinnie. thought that was obvious.

"irls can't see introjects as doubles!" says who?? i am still scratching my head on how this got tossed around. i'm a part of a system myself (professional dx, yes), and it just makes no sense. i mostly see minors spreading this shit like wildfire. minors who probably have never picked up a psychology book in their entire lives. you are not entitled to someone's comfortability. irls at the end of the day experience delusions. this includes finding doubles as discomforting or anxiety inducing. because of that, they do not have to feel comfortable around you! "but introjects dont see themselves as their source so technically they are not the character!!" introjects dont see themselves as their source sometimes. other times an introject may feel deeply connected to their source and feel discomfort at the sight of doubles. either way, my point is -- feeling discomfort around doubles of ANY kind is perfectly valid. you don't have to feel comfortable with introjects interacting. case closed.

and here is my favourite statement ever (sarcasm) "i won't feed into your delusions!" oh god. please do us a favour and pick up a book on delusions in general. PLEASE. like throwing irls to the side for a second and speaking on delusions in general. reality checking can be harmful when not done by a profressional. profressionals have stated that simply telling a person that their delusion "is not true" solves nothing. my point is, youre not some messiah for reality checking someone. in fact you are the opposite... as reality checking can lead to the person harming themselves or others if it's not handled with care by a profressional. i promise you that: kai age 15 yt bisexual -- is not going to cure a delusional person!

going back onto the topic of irls though-- i'm going to say something that may shock you to your core. so sit down... believing you are a fictional character is not a harmful delusion. therefore a therapist and/or psychologist is not going to reality check you. now, if believing you are a fictional character is having a serious negative impact on your life for whatever reason, then i'm sure that they will help you. but if something isnt harming you or your life, a therapist is not going to crucify you for it. a good therapist anyway. (this is describing my own experience and other's experiences with telling a professional about their "irls")

that's all. may update and add onto this some day.
updated there were lots of grammatical errors! i went back in and fixed them.
