The Most Convincing Proof That You Need Robot Vac

Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum is able to keep floors clean enough to reduce the frequency at which you'll need to manually vacuum. Choose a robot vacuum with good navigation, can clean stairs and corners and also has an enormous bin that will need to be cleaned out every now and then.

You can also find models that mop and charge on their own which can be essential for those who have children or pets. The top performers in our tests also have good obstacle avoidance.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO is identical to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is a good option for those who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the dustbin of the robot when it is full.

Both robots excel at cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors and they are very good at maneuvering around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. The i3+ does not have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots we test. It may be stuck on power cords and socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it might come across. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it began. Battery life is about an hour-and-a-half of continuous usage. It takes 3 hours to charge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and has the most up-to-date features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can direct your robot using the app or voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and to move around the room and vacuum a specific space. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+ such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households and can fit nicely on the table for a coffee or the bookshelf, that you can spin around like an enchanted device.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filtering system is able to trap allergens and then lets cleaner air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes that can be adjusted to the specific task. It is able to quickly switch from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum, and vice versa.

The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in 3.5 hours and provides easy access to two attachments as well as a wand clip. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its short running time. As CR's tests show, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a common battery-powered vacuum's run time. That's still enough run time to clean most of a home that's average size however, it's not enough to get every single area (though the second time around usually does the trick). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeable superior on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's an excellent choice for those who don't have lots of money to spend on a robot. It was able to remove most types of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently went over the same area multiple times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach corners and edges of walls.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and guide you through your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, including our top picks, the i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords or low furniture, and it often will run out of battery before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways, as it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, comes with more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in maneuvering itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries strips and can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels better-built and has a stronger motor, and performs notably better on bare floors and low-pile carpet, while providing a greater variety of features for automation.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a brand is seen on a variety of electronic gadgets for your home, so it comes as no surprise that they're one of the most popular robot vacuum and mop manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is loaded with cutting-edge onboard intelligence tech for navigation and obstacles avoidance.

robot vacuum deals offers a variety of options to customize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior modification docking frequency settings and more. The app is simple to use and understand similar to other Samsung devices.

In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested, and this could be a problem for some buyers.

The app allows you to access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's cleaning zone. This feature allows you to check in on your pets or children while you are away. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned to ensure an easy, quick clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also has a clean station that's self-emptying and helps keep the robot's trash bin clean and maximizes suction power for each cleaning run.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots are designed specifically for flooring made of hard wood. The robots come with an extra-wide cleaning path and a dustbin that is 2X larger than the competition. This lets them clean the area for longer. Plus, they include two side sweepers to clean around edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model comes with AutoSense which adjusts the power level depending on whether it's cleaning up surface dirt or embedded dirt. The vacuum also has an app that allows you to view a virtual map, control functions, and schedules. Additionally, you can track the battery's status and send it back to its dock for charging at the push of one button. The app allows you to personalize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum using different colors, so you can clearly see the areas where it's focused or where it's got stuck.

The app also makes it simple to steer the robot manually should you need to. For example my living room rug has a darkly-colored border that tends to make it difficult for other robots I've tested. The HRV 425BL however continued to travel across the border, without notifying the cliff. The ability to program a weekly cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
