A bitter breeze blew through the desolate city streets, carrying autumnal leaves off the boughs of the trees. The dim yellow glow of the street lamps periodically illuminated the pavement before the both of you.
As the branches above you rustle in the zephyr your glance over to Kronii who was walking besides you.
Waddled in a thick coat and scarf, the wind whipped her sprigs of Navy hair back and forth. She was looking down as she walked, contemplating something.
Neither of you had spoken much today, she seemed too pre-occupied with her thoughts to engage in small talk or banter but atleast you went on a night walk together.
It was something you both did before meeting one another; the silence of the roads a stark contrast to the day, the noises of nature were a pleasent choir compared to the usual bustle of humans. The night sky loomed large above the roofs and the tree tops, a panoramic vista that took one away from the mundainity of the everyday world.
Kronii takes your hand in hers as you both cross the road, your gloved fingers interweaving with one another in union.
The entrance to the city park was open, this was one of your favourite walking areas at night and Kronii was delighted when you took her through your usual route, the tranquility of the gardens and tended grounds let her mind be at ease.
An old bench, besides a small hillock, lit by a flickering old gas lamp was often the pit stop of your walks. You both took the time here to talk about more deep issues and problems here and when not divuldging those, it was the most seculded and peaceful spot in the park. A private alcove just for the two of you to sit and think.
You lean back and strech your arms, gazing up at the twinkling dots on the dark canvas of the sky. Kronii rested next to you, not saying anything and just joining in the stargazing.
"Is everything ok?" you wonder aloud, an arm of yours having rested around her shoulder and pulling her close to you.
"Hmm" Kronii was usually rather open during the nightwalks so this was peculiar.
"Kronii?"
You break your gaze up and look across at her. She was still focusing up, a rather stoic expression on her face made it difficult to discern her feelings.
"Sometimes I think if I made the right choices"
She shifts a little to grt more comfortable by you
"Did I do the right thing? What if things were different? Would I be in a better place?"
You keep quiet, letting her continue.
"Maybe I'm not cut out for it"
She sighs and looks up at you, meeting your eyes.
"Then I tell myself that I have you, maybe things aren't so bad"
Kronii smiles weakly. You let her rest her head on your shoulder as you remark on how wonderful she is and how well she has done, she'll get better with time and experience but you only expect her to try her best.
She mallows with your words, her stiffness from overthinking dissolves. You need not say more than was needed, today was a quiet night walk and you now endeavour to enjoy the moment in the park; the rustle of the trees, the cool blustery breeze, the sounds of the world around you both. Together.
