Lance Character Story - Disentanglement Puzzle

Noah: Oh, looks like someone dropped something. But what’s this? A keychain…?

Lance: Ah… Phew, It’s still open. [1]

Noah: Lance, is something wrong?

Lance: Sorry to bother you after you were closing. I just realized that I forgot something and went back to get it.

It’s a disentanglement puzzle, did you see it drop somewhere?

Noah: Disentanglement puzzle… Oh, do you mean this?

Lance: That’s it! What a relief.

Noah: So this was called a disentanglement puzzle. I thought it was a keychain because it was shaped like a music note.

Lance: It has an interesting shape after all. I got it recently and got hooked into it.

When I’m thinking, moving my hands with something like this helps calm me down.

Noah: You solve the puzzle ring while thinking of something else…? So that’s how you solve it.

Lance: It can be solved.

[Then, can you solve this one quickly too?] Lance: Yeah, of course.

[I want to see how you try and solve it.] Lance: Alright, I’m going to give it a go.

…. And there, it’s solved.

Noah: S-so quick…! Have you solved it before?

Lance: No, I just bought this recently, so it’s my first attempt at solving it.

Noah: That’s amazing....!

Lance: Ahaha, it’s no big deal really. But… when you react that way, it makes me feel embarrassed.

Translation notes:

The title is called 知恵の輪 which means is a type of puzzle that’s interconnected with each other and you have to solve it by twisting, pulling or pushing a specific part to untangle it. It can be called as “Puzzle Ring” (パズルリング)
It’s used throughout the conversation but I use the puzzle ring more often so it doesn't sound redundant.
[1] Lance said 良かった (yokatta) here and translated it into Phew to make it more accurate to the original text but it can also be translated as “that’s good, it’s still open”
