just wanna say, this is MY opinion.

i do not believe arlecchino is a canon butch lesbian
why?
well, because there is absolutely no representation for such.

NO i am NOT talking about headcanons. i am talking about people who are absolutely BRAINWASHED into thinking arlecchino is a CANON lesbian.

as a femme, i do think its absolutely ridiculous people base their claims off of this one singular image all over twitter.

“178. tall, cool and stylish handsome woman/tomboy.”
how on god’s green earth does this point to lesbianism?
while i do know about chinese queer slangs this moreso points to arlecchino being a stone top than anything. however, anyone can be a stone top. not just butch lesbians. even if this terminology was used on arlecchino, she does not have anything to do with lesbianism in her character..

and most importantly, what does arlecchino contribute to being a butch...? how does arlecchino represent this?
answer : nothing. because arlecchino is not a lesbian nor a butch, she is androgynous and does not experience dysphoria
( in some lesbians’ cases. ) there is more to a butch than just being masculine or a lesbian, it means challenging social/societal norms for the sake of your queer experience. arlecchino does NONE of that. she just exists,

  1. “but clervie! waahhh doomed yuri!”
that is her sister. arlecchino grew up in an orphanage with a family dynamic, to which, the person to run said orhpahange was clervie’s BIRTH mother. arlecchino is also, not heartless. obviously, she would care about clervie to take on challenges and honor her name. im sick and tired of people mischaracterizing arlecchino just for the sake of their hoyo dickriding propaganda!! this is HARDLY lesbian representation. at all and it sickens me that other lesbians take this..? oh my god bruh
  2. “handsome woman/tomboy”
tomboy/handsome does NOT mean lesbian. infact, you are part of the reason why a lot of girls dont feel comfortable expressing themselves differently, because they get labeled as gay for solely being a bit more masculine or not traditionally feminine. yes, this is misogyny. the hyper-masculinization of arlecchino is also getting so misogynistic as well. there are people who genuinely cant let go of transfem headcanons BECAUSE the female character is muscular/physically strong in some way.
  3. “but this was written by hoyo?”
for the last fucking time, this doesnt matter. imagine this, you are applying for a job, a ROLE, to voice act a character. they are not going to give you a deep analysis, they dont do that for acting gigs either. they leave the interpretation solely up to the person who executes the character best to their own perceptions with just the basics. take this shit with a grain of salt, because none of this is lesbianism.
  4. relying on hoyo for queer representation and how this isnt lesbianism
this isnt lesbianism because arlecchino doesnt get remotely very close with another feminine aligned person or have any struggles with her feelings for such. and no, you cannot say clervie, as stated in point #1, that is her sister. the point of lesbianism is a queer experience with same-sex or women loving non-men, wlw, sapphicism etc. clothing does not have gender either, nor do they have a sexuality. basing arlecchino as a lesbian from solely what she wears is undeniably pathetic and discredits what the lesbian community has to face, and their struggles of being queer. hoyoverse also, does not care about western propaganda to care. they only care about money. they already do lack diversity and proper representation for other cultures as seen with natlan, it is evident they do not care.

final thoughts
this is not made in any way to shun headcanons. arlecchino can be interpreted as however you like since there are no direct representation for her gender or sexuality. she can be anything, and everything. but spreading this propaganda to say this is CANON can be very misleading!!!!!
