etymology
"bisexual" comes from the word "bi-", meaning "two" or "double", and "-sexual". the word "bi-" (two) refers to the two types of attractions: heterosexual and homosexual attraction. many people confuse bisexuality with being "attracted to men and women only" or being "attracted to more than two genders"; this definition is transphobic as it excludes non-binary genders out of bisexuality.
biphobia
biphobia is aversion toward bisexuality or people who are identified or perceived as being bisexual. similarly to homophobia, it refers to hatred, stereotypes and prejudice specifically against those identified or perceived as being in the bisexual community (such as the beliefs that they are promiscuous or dishonest). other forms of biphobia include bisexual erasure.
additional info. sources [1] [2] [3] [4]
the term bisexuality is mainly used for people that have both heterosexual and homosexual attraction. bisexuality is one of the three main classifications of sexual orientation along with heterosexuality and homosexuality, all of which exist on the heterosexual–homosexual continuum. a bisexual identity does not necessarily equate to equal sexual attraction to both sexes; commonly, people who have a distinct but not exclusive sexual preference for one sex over the other also identify themselves as bisexual.
