Magia Exedra Guide

This guide includes example party composition and tips for the harder content of Magia Exedra.
If you have party suggestions, feel free to post them in the general, ideally with videos or screenshots of the party screen with information on magic levels.
When referring to a meguca, assume the highest rarity unless stated otherwise. (Ayame = 4* Ayame)

Emulator

Other emulators like Bluestacks and LDPlayer can work but Mumu works perfectly for me. For troubleshooting, check here: https://rentry.org/nhgthioc

Reroll

Go through the tutorial once. Go to the settings menu. Select the Delete Account option. Skip the tutorial and you'll be back right before your tutorial pull.

What should I reroll for right now?

Updated July 16th

You should at least have access to a tutorial pull with a guaranteed 5 star, a free multi on Alina's banner with a 5% 5 star rate, a free multi on the standard banner and 3k gems for a multi on either Alina's (5% 5 star rate) banner or the Limited Swimsuit Mami banner.
If you still have 10 days until the end of the month, you can also get a 5 star from the Mikazuki Villa selector event.
With these 4 multis and the selector in mind, you should reroll for the limited Swimsuit Mami and Pluvia Magica Madoka at the very least. You can grab Sana, a 5 star defender, from the selector. If it's past the 21st of July, try also rerolling for a 5 star defender.
If you want to go for more 5 star characters on your reroll, I'd recommend Mami or Moemura.
Here's a tier-list in harder content for every role. Having Pluvia Madoka, a 5 star defender and one meguca in every role should be good enough to complete most of the harder content.

Tier list

Updated July 17th
July 17th Tier List
5 stars megucas are considered A0.
4 stars are considered A2.

Nightmare

Regular battle stages

Breaker | Attacker | Debuffer/Buffer/Breaker | Healer/Debuffer/Buffer | Defender
AOE and proximity attackers are privileged when there are 3 or more minions but ST will be able to manage for a good part of it.

Silver Witch (Gisela)

Breaker | Attacker | Ayame | X | Defender/Healer
Gisela advances her turn order if attacked while her barrier is up. Try having Ayame's special charged to use whenever the barrier is put up.
Ayame 50/59 will do.

Ayame | Lux Madoka | Nanaka | Kirika | Yuma
Nightmare Silver Witch clear
Notes: Magic 89 for 5 stars, 59 for 4 stars.

Shadow Witch (Elsa Maria)

Breaker | Attacker | X | Healer | Defender
Elsa Maria will spawn 4 adds that are easy to break and kill regularly. Kill them as fast as possible to take less damage.
You'll need an AOE attacker or an AOE breaker along with a meguca with an AOE special (or Hazuki) to take care of the adds quickly.

Dog Witch (Uhrmann)

Breaker | Attacker | Buffer/Debuffer/Breaker/Attacker | Breaker/Buffer/Debuffer/Attacker | Defender
Uhrmann will spawn an add that buffs attack and defense. Everytime an add is killed her heals become stronger.
The goal is to break her as fast as possible and to kill her while avoiding killing the add more than a couple times.

Mermaid Witch (Oktavia)

Breaker | Attacker | Himika (ideal)/Ren/Hanna | Breaker/Healer/Buffer/Debuffer | Defender/Healer
Oktavia needs to be afflicted with an ailment at the start of every single one of her turns.
She can delay turns so apply a 2T ailment whenever possible.
Himika 50/59 will do. Equip an ailment hit rate portrait. Reset if the first ailment fails.
Once broken her break bonus can get very high, so to make sure to break her before she builds a lot of defense buffs, bringing 2 breakers or a breaker and Hazuki works well.
She can apply another defense buff which can prevent you from killing her in one break if it's up when you break her. Bringing Ayame to dispel that buff and simply using basic attacks to generate SP for your ailment meguca works well.
One sustain meguca can be enough to survive until you break her but if you lack good sustain or can't kill in one break, bringing multiple might be best.

Kirika | Lux Madoka | Himika | Ayame | Homura
Nightmare Mermaid Witch clear
Notes: Magic 89 for 5, 59 for 4.

Artist Witch (Izabel)

Breaker | Attacker | X | Healer | Defender
Izabel and the adds she summons deal a lot of damage. The adds have an ability making them more vulnerable when afflicted with an ailment.
The safest strategy is to neutralize the adds quickly and to sustain through Izabel's attacks.

Lux Madoka | Kirika | Tsuruno | Homura | Mito
Nightmare Artist Witch clear

Chairperson Witch (Patricia)

Breaker | Attacker | X | Healer | Defender
Patricia gets into an attack mode if your SP is at 3 or higher and gets into a speed mode if your SP is lower than 3.
She also has a proximity stun and many AOE attacks.
The best way to deal with her is to keep your SP above 3 and sustain through it. She is pretty tanky so she might take 2 or 3 breaks to kill.

Breaker | Breaker | Healer | X | X
If you can't sustain through her attack mode or if you don't have a defender, opt for breaking her often and healing the damage in speed mode by maintaining your SP low.

Sandbox Witch (Zenobia)

Breaker | Attacker | Ayame | Healer | Defender
Zenobia applies shields and summons adds that apply shields. You need to hit her an absurd amount of time to remove them.
Try having Ayame's special charged to use whenever the shield is put up.

Breaker | Breaker | Attacker | Felicia/Buffer/Debuffer/Healer | Defender
If you don't have Ayame but have Felicia and/or good firepower, you could break and kill the adds fast enough to avoid her setting up shields while chipping away at her break gauge.

Uwasa of the Commoner's Horse

Breaker | Attacker | Himika (ideal)/Ren/Hanna | Breaker/Healer/Buffer/Debuffer | Defender/Healer
This uwasa needs to be afflicted with an ailment to become vulnerable.
She has ailment resistances so apply a 2T ailment whenever possible.
Himika 50/59 will do. Equip an ailment hit rate portrait.

Birdcage Witch (Roberta)

Roberta gains an atk buff stack for every hit taken.
She has an AOE attack that can apply burn.
She counterattacks if burned.

Kirika's special mitigates more damage than the extra damage added by an additional buff stack on the witch.
Kirika's on +14% SPD and she STILL got overtaken by the witch on turn 3. No overtakes after that, and the battle was roughly 20 turns.
It took 8 turns to the first break, just relying on the break damage from our specials. We got her in 2 breaks.

Homura | Felicia | Rena | Pluvia Madoka | Kaede

Notes: Felicia ideally reset for stun on T1.
This is a one break kill that Homura can accomplish with MP support.
Kaede and Pluvia are both MP batteries.
Kaede lets you barely live with heals while Pluvia deals more break gauge damage.
Rena needed to activate her special twice against the witch in break. This delays AO enough for Pluvia and Kaede to get in front of Bird Cage and charge MP.
Homura was able to use her special to kill once Kaede and Pluvia charged her.

Stagecraft Witch (Walpurgisnacht)

Phase 1

Breaker | Attacker | X | Healer | Defender
The first phase can be blitzed through but a safe sustain party will have an easier time.
Note that her special goes through barriers.

Phase 2

Breaker | X | Hazuki/Mami/Healer | Healer | Defender
You'll need a way to make sure your defender's barriers is up before everyone of her turns.
You'll need a way to cleanse her ailments to avoid taking too much damage.
Note that her special goes through barriers.

Phase 3

Breaker | Attacker/Ayame | Hazuki/Mami/Healer/Defender | Healer | Defender
You take less damage than in phase 2 but this phase is a marathon. One break likely won't cut it.
You'll need to pay attention to her offensive and defensive states, alternating every turn.
Don't break her during a defensive state otherwise you will not be dealing much damage.
She does not have much of a turn delay on break so save your specials when you're close to breaking.
She heals when shields and barriers are up at the start of her turn. Either use a strong enough ST attacker to break the barriers on offensive turns or bring Ayame to dispel them.

Sister's Nightmare Walpurgist Phase 3
Notes: Magic levels 110 / 59 / 111 / 111 / 89
If you're counting turns, you can gain extra SP here and there by NOT using your defender's barrier before Walpurgis' (cleanse into XL/L attack) sequences and the (XL attack into shield) sequence.
For Kirika in particular, if your flex meguca are too fragile you will need to reserve Kirika's special to mitigate the sequence (XL attack into L attack).
The damage reflect on Kirika's barrier removes 5 out of 10 shield stacks on the boss during her (shield into attack) sequence. So if Ayame's special isn't available (thanks to MP Rate DOWN), you can opt to reserve specials to guarantee the 5 hits to strip the remaining stacks.
You can use Hazuki's action advance to give a meguca an extra turn to shake off the "MP Rate DOWN" debuff.

Needle Witch (Latria)

If you attack while burned, Latria takes less damage.
If she attacks you while her barrier is up, you take more damage.
If she attacks you while you're burned, some attacks may deal more damage.
If she uses her random multihit attack, it may just hit one of your megucas 10 times and make you restart.

"(DMG UP: No. Burning)" isn't actually scary. Instead, the priority is cleansing burns off squishy meguca and being as topped off as possible for every "Random Flame DMG [S]".
Kirika's debuff must have full uptime.
Timely breaking is crucial to stabilize SP or HP after the inevitable bad RNG sequence! Hold nonessential specials when the witch's barrier is up, that's where your break depletion comes from.
Karin is here to be cute, and Pluvia would for sure make the team more stable.

Anonymous AI

Defender | Healer | Breaker | X | Attacker
She alternates between one action and 3 actions.
The first turn with 1 action is an aoe. The second (or 5th action total) is the blue screen attack which will drain your MP. The third (or 9th action total) spawns another set of adds.
There are 2 types of adds: Adds that apply a proximity curse, act twice if one of the targets has a barrier. Adds that apply an attack buff to the boss, amplified by curses.
The strategy is to only focus down the curse adds. After killing the 2nd one, all 4 adds on the field will be attack buff adds. You should now have positive sustain despite the atk buffs as she doesn't deal too much damage.
If Yuma isn't enough you can also bring A2 Reira.

Hazuki sometimes enables a play where you raise your barrier only after the curse minions act.
Similarly, you want to reserve Reira's A2 cleanse until after the curse minions act.
If you're MP constrained, just make sure to cleanse before the 3-action turns. But be careful of single MP DOWN at turn 13.

Ferris Wheel

Defender | Healer | Attacker | X | X
This uwasa's gimmick is to become stronger with each break. Breaking it doesn't delay its turns by a lot.
The strategy is to save your specials for the breaks.
You should worry more about your damage output than breaking it quickly.

Asuka | Moemura | Kirika | Reira | Ayame
Ferris Wheel Sister Nightmare Clear
Notes: Unlike the minions on the way here, the uwasa's turn scaling isn't THAT dangerous. You should instead be more concerned with its ability to stack ATK every time you break it.
Sustain pressure starts to ramp at 4 ATK stacks, and at 5 stacks the uwasa can kill squishy off-element meguca on specific turns.
The simplest strategy is to deal 25% or more of its health bar per break. So it's more helpful to bring an additional buffer/debuffer instead of a breaker.
If you find yourself at 4 or 5 stacks, you can manage the risk by reserving your specials for a dangerous turn and use them to break the uwasa between its first and second action.
Turns 2, 5, 8, and 10 are the particularly dangerous turns once the uwasa has lotsa ATK stacks.
But really, almost everyone has Homu and Homu can easily hit 25% damage per break quota. The boss is only really tricky when you're trying to force a favorite 4* or two into the team.

It took 5 breaks to kill it. The breaks are quite short, so save up a couple specials to build break bonus quickly.
It gains an attack boost every time you break, but it honestly doesn't matter that much.
As long as you make sure you have barrier up before its attacks, you should be fine.

Scene 0 - Dog Witch (Uhrmann)

Breaker | Breaker | Attacker | Buffer | Buffer/Debuffer/Defender
Uhrmann plays twice per turn, can cleanse her debuffs, dispel her buffs, buff her attack, deal single target damage and aoe damage as well as lower your MP and MP generation.
All of that doesn't really matter because she doesn't hit hard, she doesn't buff herself too much, she doesn't lower your MP too much and the MP generation debuff is only 1 turn long.
The dangerous gimmick here is that she gains (invisible) speed and break depletion RES buffs at every turn she takes. The goal is to quickly break her before she starts taking consecutive turns and becomes unbreakable.
With proper buffers, you can kill her in one break, or come close to it and kill her right after. With 2 breakers, you don't have to worry about that too much as you can manage to break her twice.
Breaking her a third time can prove difficult but it is doable and you can survive with a single healer/defender. It might be your best option if your attacker is lacking.

Sustain starts to get dicey once she approaches 20 ATK stacks. But it's still more than enough time to break her twice.
Uptime on Kirika's SPD debuff is essential, so she needs to use her battle skill to build MP even if you know Oktavia will strip the barrier right after.
I had to scrounge for SP by making Ren basic attack when Oktavia had a 1-turn wound and wouldn't be using Action Order DOWN on the next turn.

Sustain in this battle is tough. From this point on, your party greatly benefits from being in the correct elements to deal more damage and, more importantly, take less damage.

Bringing a defender means you'll take more damage from some of Izabel's attacks as she increases her damage if there are barriers.

Preferably bring as many on-element megucas as possible (Light, Dark, Water).
Zenobia gains a speed buff on every one of her turns, she acts twice per turn, can put up barriers on her whole party, can cleanse debuffs and ailments, can lower your damage dealt and can use both a single target attack and an AOE attack.
Zenobia is pretty much unbreakable and unkillable until you defeat 3 waves of her familiars, she also gets stronger at every familiar defeated.
She'll summon a new wave as soon as the previous one is defeated.
Each wave of familiar has more HP than the previous one.
There are 2 types of familiars: Ones who have 2 possible actions: Heal or advance turn order for the entire party. Ones who have 1 action: AOE damage.
You can apply a debuff on the healers to nerf the turn order advance.
You need to break the barriers on the ones with 1 action before their turn, otherwise they have a 20% chance of stunning each of your girls.

You do not need 120 on Homura and Mami. You do not need ascensions (took me a few tries without ascensions for targetting RNG and stun RNG).
Supports are replaceable except for Oriko, you can go with Kokoro, Lux Madoka, Oriko, Hazuki and Ayame for a more budget replacement option. All portraits are of coursed maxed.
Use your specials at the right time with Felicia and Kirika to avoid getting your debuffs cleansed.
Time your Madoka specials to avoid breaking multiple times on the same turn to maximize the use of Homura's follow-up attacks.
Focus the right targets: The familiars with 2 actions should be your priority while getting rid of barriers on the 1 action familiars before their turns.
Only use basic attacks with Felicia, use basic attacks with Mami and Homura when necessary to have enough SP to use your battle skills with Kirika and Madoka.

The gimmick of this boss is to use follow-up attacks to disable his ability and avoid getting hit for a lot of damage.
Bring Ren, Touka, Nemu or Alina to help hit the enemies with follow-up attacks 3 times for the adds and 10 times for the boss. The counter resets after 3 turns.
If you didn't get lucky on the free pulls and you didn't pull on their banners, all you really need is Ren and Kirika to deal with the boss' ability.
If you don't have Ren, Moemura + Homura works.

Save 1 SP to apply wound at every Ren turn if you don't have her at A2 and watch Ren follow-up every 2 actions or so.
You can replace Mami and Pluvia Madoka with other buffers/debuffers/breakers and Momoko with another attacker, it'll just take longer if you're not using an on-element attacker.

Charlotte has a counter that increases with each attack. You need to increase the counter to reduce her defense and break depletion resistance (when she's not broken), the closer you get to 30, the easier it gets to break.
The difficulty of this fight is that her passive gives her a speed and attack buff at every turn, much like Oktavia, and the counter resets to 0 after 3 of her turns.
So you need a party that can get 30 hits in and then lower her break gauge considerably within 3 turns, while also having enough damage to kill her within 3 breaks. It's hard to break her a 4th time.
At low/no ascensions, it seems you need Pluvia Madoka and 3 out of the following 5: Mami, Moemura, Mabayu, Ren and Ultimate Madoka.

Notes: Magic 120/120/120/120/120
A2 Ren seems mandatory in this party but I might be wrong. Sayaka is a good alternative to Kirika if you have Mami at A2.
The timing of the breaks wasn't ideal as Charlotte's defense buff was up during the 2nd and 3rd break.
Try saving some resources when you're about to break and make sure that, at the very least, the 1st break doesn't happen while the defense buff is up.
Focus entirely on Charlotte to hit the 30 attacks in 3 turns. Use Madokami's special to kill the adds once they're broken and at 300%.
Hope that Madokami doesn't get targetted by the familiar that inflicts an ailment that weakens you.
I don't have her so I can't try, but I think Tsukasa might be able to replace Mami (if you don't have her nor Moemura) if she makes Madokami able to kill in 2 breaks with her extra debuffs and by removing the defense buff.

Notes: Just ignore the familiars and hit her 30 times in 3 turns to disable the break gauge protection then break before the 30-hit counter resets. Took 3 breaks to kill her.

Rubber Witch

Sayaka/Kirika/Sana | Kaede/Reira/Yuma | Summer Mami/Yachiyo/Kyouko/Momoko | Mami/Tsuruno/Touka/Ayame | Rena/Pluvia/Nemu/Karin
Everytime she gets a turn she'll change between 2 modes: Higher DEF mode (even) and higher Break Depletion RES mode (odd). She barely takes any damage outside of break.
Defenders aren't necessary, especially since she reduces the barrier potency significantly. Defense buffs from defenders can still help avoid getting one shot.
This one is easier to spot than Walpurgis since you have a break gauge depletion preview which you can use to figure out in which mode she is.
The strategy is simple, break her during her Break Depletion RES mode. Ayame can be useful to dispel her Dark DMG Up buff at higher difficulties.
Her weaknesses are Aqua, Forest and Flame. You should be able to get the 1m high score between ranks 40 to 45.

FAQ

Q: I don't have Ayame.
A: Try using 3* Hazuki.

Q: I don't have A2 Hazuki.
A: Use Moemura (Glassses Homura) if you have her otherwise try using A0 Hazuki along with a meguca who is SP positive (will mostly basic attack).

Q: I don't have A2 Reira.
A: Try using Reira with Yuma to see if the extra healing is enough to deal with ailments.

Q: I don't have Kaede.
A: Try using A2 Reira or Yuma or both.

Q: I don't have a 5* ST attacker.
A: Asuka has been used for the all of the content by at least one player. Nanaka have been used by some players up to Walpurgisnacht. Oriko should work at least up to Walpurgisnacht Phase 3. Some players have used Felicia as a damage dealing alternative up to Needle Witch, likely with ascension on their breaker and buffer.

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/magiaexedra/comments/1juiikn/one_more_nightmare_stage_to_go/

Q: I don't have a 5* defender.
A: Kokoro can manage for most of the content but you'll need more specific party compositions, big magic level investment and likely good rng to make it through bosses.
Some have reported getting past Stagecraft Witch Phase 2 with Kokoro, likely with ascensions.

Q: How do stuns work exactly?
A: On Felicia's first turn, you have the highest chance of inflicting stun. Subsequent turns have a much lower chance of landing a stun in Nightmare.
It seems that whenever you land a stun on an enemy it builds up more stun resistance. If you need to land a T2 stun on Birdcage Witch for example, do not stun it T1.

Q: When should I use my special?
A: If you are using a healing/cleansing special, you can use it as soon as an enemy attack goes off to avoid a tick of ailment or dying from a 2nd enemy attack.
If you are using a debuffing special, you should wait for the enemy's turn to end and one of your megucas' turn to start before using it to avoid losing a turn on that debuff.
If you are using an offensive special, you should use it before or during your meguca's turn if an offensive buff is about to expire.
If you are using a dispeling special, you might want to use it as soon as the buff, barrier or shield the enemy has cast is up.

Q: Is stun an ailment or a debuff.
A: An ailment.

Q: How do I transfer my mobile account to Steam?
A: On the title screen, press the support button on the top right corner and select Data Transfer.

Q: Can I lose my data by transferring to Steam?
A: No, you can swap devices whenever you want.

Q: Does the account get tied to that Steam account?
A: No, only to the google/apple/etc account you linked it to.

Score Battle - Walpurgis Special Edition

Rank 11

Healer | Breaker | X | X | X
If you attack Walpurgis 4 times while being inflicted with ailments, she will counterattack and inflict the entirety of the ailment damage to your inflicted party members.
Take a healer that can cleanse the ailments. Reira is particularly useful as you can save her special for when you've been inflicted with ailments.
If you're taking Yuma or Kaede, consider taking Hazuki.
A defender is good but you don't need one if you've got good damage.
It seems the best rank to get a high score in if you can't beat rank 13.

Rank 12

Defender | Healer | Ayame | X | X
Dispel barriers and attack buffs with Ayame's special.
Keep the party alive with your defender and healer.
If they're too slow, consider taking Hazuki.
A breaker isn't necessary considering how big the break gauges get from this point on.

Dispel barriers and attack buffs with Ayame's special.
Keep the party alive with your defender and healer.

The strategy is to only basic attack with Ren to keep up sp economy.
You need the sp to Yuma heal almost every turn else Ayame dies.
Save cleanse for Oktavia's atk buff.
You get a free turn of setup before the atk buff, since its a weak single target hit thats not threatening.
The first 20-30 turns are used to stack up Sana's def buff.
Once its at 10 you wont need to Yuma skill anymore and her special is enough to sustain.
Thats when you start wounding with Ren and cleansing barriers.
Oktavias ailment attacks are very threatening either so you can get setup on those turns too post-10 Sana stacks.
Attack Order

Rank 14

Defender | Healer | Ayame | Hazuki/Moemura | X
Same strategy as rank 12 & 13 but with the ailment counter attacker mechanic of rank 11.
If you attack her 6 times while being inflicted with ailments, she will counterattack and inflict the entirety of the ailment damage to your inflicted party members.
Cleanse ailments before attacking as much as possible.
The counter inevitably builds up as the battle goes on, so try having her counterattack when it's most convenient. Ideally when only 5* full health megucas are inflicted with 1 ailment.
Avoid Sayaka since she can counterattack after being afflicted with an ailment.
Order your party members so that megucas who will attack the boss are grouped up for easier cleansing with Kaede or Yuma.
Dispel barriers and attack buffs with Ayame's special.
Use Hazuki or Moemura to have your defender's barrier up for aoe attacks and your ailments cleansed.
Play it safe, build up SP for emergencies and don't worry about damage.

Run this party in auto to clear everything up to rank 14 and get all of the possible rewards. (I've only tested these at magic 111+)
Character choices are in order of efficiency, from most efficient to least efficient.
The Uwasa gets weaker once you kill 2 of its familiars, but not that much. It buffs itself with DEF+ and Break Depletion- and can lower your ATK.
