A Special Addition to "They Hide Behind Things We Know"

The message is from Aubrey. You roll your eyes. You already know that messages from Aubrey never mean anything too good.

Aubrey was recently made captain of the cheerleading team. Aubrey has extraordinary cheerleading skills and has been into cheer longer than anyone--or so she always says, since she was 4 years old. Aside from being great at the sport, she and Natalie are totally different. Amy is moody, inconsiderate, and is probably the main one who would take advantage of the newer members when given the chance. Her new position as captain over all of them seemed to give her the idea that she had control over their entire lives.

You open the message but before you can read it, you hear Natalie speaking.

"Did you just get a message from Aubrey?"

You groan.

"Yes."

"Did you get invited out into the woods?"

"Uh..."

You nervously pull the phone from your ear and jump back to the SMS screen. Immediately, you see: "Save the date for the most exciting event organized by Aubrey and Sharon Royale."

You refuse to keep reading.

"The most exciting event is going to be out in the woods? I might disagree with that."

Natalie laughs. "You know they think that anything they plan is the most exciting event. It doesn't matter what the little people think."

You laugh. Had Aubrey heard that, she'd have thrown a fit, but you know that Natalie means nothing by it. Natalie always did everything to back Aubrey up and to encourage the new members who couldn't stand her to show Aubrey respect.

"Are you going to go?" you ask, still refusing to read any more.

"I probably have to go," Natalie answers. "If I don't--"

"We won't," you finish for her.

"This is in the woods! I doubt anyone except maybe Courtney and Egypt... So, are you going to go?"

You sigh.
