The economic crisis that swept across Asia caused a major review of the traditional system of government, business alliances, and public management of risks. In Korea this meant a change in the model of development.

In a controversial move South Korea's government has requested textbook publishers to ignore calls to eliminate examples of evolution from science textbooks for high school students. This includes the evidence for evolution of horses as well as the avian ancestral Archaeopteryx.

Another possible factor is that students with a religious background are more likely to see evolution as an atheistic concept and therefore less at ease with it.

2. Evolution and Science

In recent years, campaigns against evolution in schools have raised concern among the scientific community. A 2009 survey revealed that more than 40 percent of Americans believe that biological evolution is a lie and that believing in it would be contrary to their faith-based beliefs.
