MURDERED AND MISSING INDIGENOUS WOMEN AND MEN.

native women & men experience violence at a higher right than all other ethnicities and races. 84.3% of all native women have experienced violence in their lifetime (56.1% being sexual violence), and 81.6% of all native men have experienced violence in their lifetime (27.5% being sexual violence). 98% of female native sex workers have been homeless, and 79% were sexually abused as children with an average of 4 abusers.

with descrepencies between state officials, reservations, tribal police, and more, addressing the violence against native people is extremely difficult. in 2016, 5,712 cases of missing and murdered natives were reported. only 116 were federally logged. february 14 is the mmiw day of action and activism. on this day, marches and vigils are held for our missing sisters. may 5 is the national mmiw day, and you are encouraged to wear red and spread awareness of what is happening to our people. september 30 is the national day of rememberence for the horrors of native residential schools. we mourn our lost children on this day, and you are encouraged to wear orange in solidarity.
