The Shannara Chronicles is a twenty-episode American television series developed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on the literary series The Shannara Chronicles by writer Terry Brooks and more specifically the novel The Elfstones of Shannara. It aired between January 5, 2016 and November 22, 2017 on MTV for the first season and then on Spike for the second season. In this article, we are going to tell you whether you can expect a third season of The Shannara Chronicles or not.
There will be no season three of The Shannara Chronicles, simply because the series was officially canceled back in 2017 and the attempts to ship it to another network failed, after which the series was officially concluded. This was quite unfortunate as the first two seasons adapted only one of the three novels from the trilogy, so the other two were never even touched upon. The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to the potential third season of The Shannara Chronicles. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this intriguing fantasy series that ended way too early.

Will The Shannara Chronicles Season 3 happen?

Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films acquired the production rights to the Shannara universe back in 2012. In December 2013, it was announced that a television series based on the books was being produced by MTV and had been given a straight-to-series, 10-episode order without going through the pilot-episode process.
On April 20, 2016, MTV greenlit a second season of The Shannara Chronicles. Casting of the lead roles took place between November 2014 and March 2015, in this order: Poppy Drayton, Aaron Jakubenko, Austin Butler Manu Bennett, Ivana Baquero, John Rhys-Davies, Brooke Williams, Daniel MacPherson, Marcus Vanco, and James Remar. On October 10, 2015, during New York Comic Con, MTV announced that the broadcast of the first season will begin on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, just behind the flagship series Teen Wolf. On April 20, 2016, the series was renewed for a second season of ten episodes. On February 1, 2017, Malese Jow, Vanessa Morgan, Gentry White, Caroline Chikezie, and Desmond Chiam joined the main cast in the second season. On May 11, 2017, it was announced that the Spike channel would pick up the airing of the series from the second season following MTV’s decision to reduce the number of fiction on its program. This ten-episode season aired from October 11, 23,24 to November 22, 2017 on Spike. On January 16, 2018, the series was canceled after two seasons, with the producers confirming that they would be shopping the series to another network. This ultimately failed and the series was later considered officially concluded. It’s been three years and with the series having been officially canceled, there is absolutely no chance of it continuing
