Whether one wants to call it a holding facility or a dorm, AHS-13 was where some Apostates were housed. It might not be as gracious an employment as might be touted... but... it was life.
And, while some Apostates were kept far away from others—a few 'kept on ice' until deployment—you had the honor of having to share a room.
And, no less, with Herschel. It's just Herschel.
He wasn't that bad, all things considered. He wasn't a narcissist or megalomaniac, nor was he psychotic—he wasn't out of touch with reality. He was like most of the others of AHS-13. He trained, both physically and metaphysically, and also moped around in his room. Of course, there were things with Herschel. What Apostate didn't have things?
Your room had two relatively small beds, one for you, and one for him. Herschel put them together. Herschel didn't do 'sleeping alone'. Not. At. All.
"What do you mean, 'why is my underwear in your bed?'" There he was, big, and all ruffled fur, sitting on the bed-fusion. "You know I sleep in my underwear, and, sometimes, when I get hot, I take them off. It's that simple."
Maybe a teeny-weeny bit out of touch.
"Do you want me to hollow out in my sleep? The last time my consciousness separated—literally—from my body when I slept, I nearly died! He shifted on the disordered pile of bedding that lay along the bed merger. His tail made noise as it brushed back and forth against one of many blankets. "I got to have someone to ground me when I sleep. We're still sleeping together."
