Tiger Physiology

Due to the Kagetora family's unique genes, Nekomaru has the ears and tail of a tiger, as well as other features such as fur in some parts of his body, claws, or cat-like feet. His eyesight is especially sensitive, and his claws are his main weapons. Not just that, but his footsteps are especially light.

Backstory

Nekomaru Kagetora was raised by a single father on the outskirts of Takigakure. His mother died in childbirth after complications, and since then, Nekomaru's kind, yet firm father trained him in the ways of his family: descended from a mysterious half-cat legacy, the Kagetora clan weren't necessarily a large noble family, but they passed down strange feline genes that provided their members with amazing agility and speed. Thus, Nekomaru's ancestors were splendid spies and mercenaries, and young Nekomaru wouldn't be an exception.

His training on the waterfalls was harsh, yet not unloving. Not having the warmth of a mother hurt Nekomaru more than he was conscious of, but the constant reassurance of his father kept him going, even from a very young age. Nekomaru struggled to make many friends in the village due to his reserved, quiet nature, but there was a passion inside for using his skills and honing his craft. The "thrill of the hunt", as his father put it.

The instincts of a predator ran wild inside Nekomaru, who grew to be a curious, impulsive and surprisingly crafty boy, even if his experience was sorely lacking. Nekomaru's most remarkable attitude from the get-go was his speed: dashing and zipping with the wind, his physical skills and combat intuition made up for the young child's inexperience.

Nothing, however, could prepare Nekomaru for the first time he'd accompany his father on a mission, at the short age of 11. A simple infiltration job, nothing too fancy. But after the job was done and the intel was delivered, the client attempted to get rid of the evidence by backstabbing Nekomaru's father. It was the young boy's shocking speed that blindsided their captors and allowed feline the father-son duo to escape back to the village.

Shortly after this incident, Nekomaru's father received a letter from Getsugakure, the Hidden Moon Village. Somehow, recruiters had learned of Nekomaru's abilities, and they wished to provide him an opportunity for growth: one that his father alone would never be able to top.

Tearfully, Nekomaru had to say goodbye to his father -- even if he didn't want to part from Papa's side, the opportunity would be far too beneficial for the young boy's development. As a memento, something to remember him by, Nekomaru was gifted a plush toy by his father. Nekomaru grew overly attached to the stuffed tiger, and it became a coping mechanism for his home sickness and solitude when he first arrived in Getsugakure.

Personality

Nekomaru is a weird kid, and a bit of a problem child. He's quiet, and sometimes gives empty stares before causing some kind of mischief, such as knocking over a glass or running off somewhere. However, he's just misguided and sorely in need of supportive figures in his life, now that his father's not there to rein him in. Nekomaru's somewhat emotionally incontinent, finding it hard to stray away from his emotions or sugarcoat his thoughts, which means he might say things he doesn't always mean. Even so, while Nekomaru might find it hard to approach others and may even isolate himself entirely, he desperately wants to form friendships, and he comes to look up to people really easily once he gets to know them. To that end, he actually struggles to express things such as appreciation, so Nekomaru will bring people he likes odd gifts, such as flowers or rocks with faces drawn on them. Ninja start training when young, but Nekomaru especially clings to many childish habits at his 11 years of age, even when he's not entirely unacquainted with danger.

Nekomaru's most prized possession is Stripes-san, his plush tiger. He practically can't live without it. Nekomaru carries Stripes-san everywhere, even on missions, and he's especially stubborn when it comes to the idea of letting go of it. Stripes-san is the only thing with Papa's scent on it, after all. If it's for someone he really looks up to, however, Nekomaru might make an effort if prompted, but those relationships would take a lot of time and patience to build. When Nekomaru feels comfortable with someone, he's loyal, determined, and unrelenting in protecting those cherished relationships. He's also a picky eater (no veggies) with a big appetite, and he actually likes water more than one would expect a cat to.

Abilities

Nekomaru's main asset is his speed. Not only is he exceptionally fast on foot, but by boosting his speed with gusts of wind, Nekomaru can disappear in the blink of an eye and even mask his trajectory with dispersing winds to disorient an enemy. Nekomaru can dash in many different directions with insane linear movement, but his maneuverability doesn't end there, as running on walls is incredibly easy for him, and for being inexperienced, Nekomaru's acrobatics are top notch.

In battle, Nekomaru is actually somewhat calculating, much like a tiger stalking his prey. However, he can get impatient, and act on impulse before thinking if overconfidence strikes. Nekomaru doesn't quite enjoy drawn-out fights and will instead find quick solutions in taking down enemies, like a true shinobi. That doesn't mean he doesn't crave violence -- those claws are bloodthirtsty. Nekomaru's main method of attack is swift claw swipes and palm strikes, and he aims for general damage, so incapacitation is enough for him as long as he can continue the mission and keep going. However, he's also frail, and anyone who catches him before he can escape with sheer speed is going to have an easy time getting the best of the poor cub. That's why, despite his self-sufficient nature, Nekomaru is most effective in teams. However, he's more than happy to act as a scout of sorts.
