Shattered World Part 3 Outline
Extremely WIP
Settlement is built on the outskirts of a huge patchwork city, has a population of around 100 at the moment. The city ruins provide plenty of scavenging opportunities, but the settlement has been focused on becoming self-sustaining. A few farms surround the settlement itself.
Characters introduced in this part:
• Self-declared leader of the settlement named Sanlo, looks like a gigantic humanoid dragon with 4 arms. 9-10 feet tall. Pretty much built the beginning of the settlement all by himself. Loves meeting new people and welcoming them into the community, if they can show their worth.
• Human tailor named Duncan, about Albert’s height. Entered the Shattered World before Albert did, wounding up in the settlement in its early days. Has a thick Scottish accent. Was not an official tailor before the shattering but proved to have the skills needed to set up his own tailoring shop in the settlement. Knows how to speak “common” somewhat. Knows his way around people and how to give them what they want.
• The bug person they met in the desert is called Chics, has a sibling named Issunik who works in the settlement’s “processing department.” Chics goes out and makes all the navigation markers while leading any wanderers they meet back to the settlement. Issunik is basically the settlement’s record keeper and cartographer, recording all the details of every member and piecing together any maps they may have drawn on their travels. The two never speak (possibly because they are incapable of speaking “common”) but are very sturdy creatures with exquisite skills, have been in the settlement since the beginning (possibly Sanlo’s followers).
• Settlement’s mechanic named Groxligan, or Grox for short. Humanoid fellow with a very stocky build. Looks like a rock man covered in huge brown and gray scales, fingers are filed down into spikes and dull points for fine manipulation. Fixes tools and creates mechanical stuff for the settlement, hasn’t been doing too well since he has been the only mechanic and hasn’t had the time to learn more “common.” Too busy with fixing stuff that he barely understands, but people recognize this and give him all the time he needs. “It’ll be done when it’s done” kind of guy.
• Settlement’s armorer named Jedzut, has a head resembling that of an elephant crossed with a snake. Very slender green body that possesses six arms. Possesses a centipede like body with multiple limbs (hidden from view while he’s working his counter). Manages the settlement’s armory and ammo needs, collects spare weapons found on scavenging runs and ensures the settlement’s guards are well armed. Very gruff guy, doesn’t like outsiders until they start pulling their weight for the community.
• Teacher lady. long snake-like body covered in gray fur, two arms with symmetrical hands (3 fingers, 2 thumbs). Head looks like a fox's with a white face and black beak-like muzzle, 4 floppy ears on the sides. Eyes are scarlet and very tired looking. In charge of teaching the common language to everyone in the settlement. Runs a "daycare" and watches over any orphaned children in the settlement.
- Story starts with the two driving through the canyon, after a little while they find the gigantic floating V shaped structure. The V in the symbols was actually this alien structure, not an arrow.
- They follow it some more until they catch a glimpse of the settlement off in the distance. They hide the car and spend some time scouting the settlement before entering. They notice most of the aliens going in and out have a bright blue armband on.
- Once inside they are met with a plethora of aliens all going about their business. Before long the human named Duncan working his little tailor shop spots them and waves them over.
- Duncan gives them a quick rundown about the settlement before Sanlo arrives. The two are somewhat spooked by his gigantic appearance but learn it’s nothing to be afraid about. Sanlo speaks with Duncan for a moment before taking the two in for “processing.”
- Processing is just them meeting the bug alien Issunik who speedily goes through any maps they may have drawn. Issunik gives them blue armbands and sends them on their way. Sanlo is not waiting for them when they leave the building so the two wander back to Duncan's place.
- After wandering around the town they find what resembles a mechanic’s shop. With some more translation help from Duncan they score Lyka a job there for tomorrow.
- Time skip after Albert has tried looking for a place to work. He can't find anything interesting so he accepts his fate of joining the scavenger team. He asks Duncan if there's an armorer in town who might have more ammo that he'll need. Duncan brings him to Jedzut and Albert tries to see if he has any shotgun or pistol ammo but only comes up with a few extra pistol rounds. Albert gives the armorer an extra shotgun shell to see if he could make more later.
- The three retreat to Duncan’s place and talk about everything imaginable. Duncan gives them his bed for the night and they have some private time together. Albert asks Lyka what she thinks of the place. She responds and tries to use some contractions. Albert asks why, she says because him and Duncan use them so she wants to improve her English. She then asks why Duncan sounds weird which Albert answers by explaining accents. The two eventually talk about their families and Lyka asks Albert if they are a family now. Then they go to sleep.
- Morning comes, Albert and Lyka go to the "classroom" for a crash course on common. Then they all split off to their assigned duties while the story follows Albert as he joins the scavenging team. Breakdown of his work for the day here before returning.
- Albert waits for Lyka to get done with her mechanic work before the two get assigned to their own place. Lyka tells Albert about all the fun she had working.
- The two go clean up at some public showers the town has. Scared of doing something like this alone, Lyka asks Albert if he'll shower with her. He agrees and helps her clean up.
- (Unsure about this supper part) Sanlo then invites them to a big community supper and blah blah blah they all eat together. It is very awkward for the two since they still don’t know the “common” language that well.
- After supper Sanlo gives them their own room and finally get some alone time in their new place, sexy things happen, then sleep.
Some stuff that needs to be covered:
Need a name for the settlement.
How will they learn common? Perhaps there's a "classroom" set up where somebody teaches it.
What should happen while Albert is out scavenging on the first day?
Should Albert find a proper job at some point? Maybe he becomes a town guard due to his gun prowess.
What should they do with their car?
Should another sergal appear at some point? (I have some ideas for this but I'm not sure on the idea itself)
I feel the story needs some proper conflict but I can't think of anything at the moment.
Other Random thoughts:
guess I should come up with some more characters for Albert to interact with while out with the scavenging team
might write about Albert trying to smuggle some human fuel cans he found for the car
doesn't want people to know about it just yet and/or he becomes a driver for the settlement once a decent supply of gas is found because a vehicle would be a great boon for them
