Not a Pikachu

Lila let out a yawn as she closed her notebook, leaving the pencil she was used on top of it while letting out a small sigh of relief into the phone. "Thanks a lot, babe," she spoke with a smile, "I don't know what I'd do without you."

"Fail math, probably," a voice responded from the other end of the phone, earning a small chuckle from the girl.

"Smartass," she replied, shaking her head before going on, "But seriously, without you explaining all this, I'd never get my homework done in time."

"Always happy to help!" the other exclaimed, the tone of his voice happier as he then said, "So... I'm guessing this means you're all free tomorrow to hang out?"

Lila hummed for a few seconds. "Not in the morning. I have to give Bella a bath," she answered, counting on her fingers, "take her out for a walk, and then go on a grocery run for my mom. But after that yeah, I don't have anything else planned."

"Awesome!" she heard, and she could almost picture the grin on his face. "Then shoot me a message once you're done. I'll bring the movie, and you get us some popcorn."

"...Tony, pick a horror one again and I'm making you sit through my Korean dramas all day."

Tony stood in silence for a few moments. "...give me a second, I'm considering the risk."

"Tony!" She warned.

"I'm joking, I'm joking!" he managed between laughter, "No horror movies, understood."

Lila let out a short sigh into the phone, followed by a short giggle as she shook her head. "I'll see you tomorrow then. Good night, babe."

"Good night, love ya."

"Love you too, dork." And with that, she hung up before placing her phone on its charging stand, then headed towards her bed.

As she laid down and covered herself with her favorite blanket, she happily thought about tomorrow, drifting off to sleep with thoughts of spending all day with her boyfriend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As she woke up, the first thing she could feel was a slight headache already forming. Lila cursed to herself as she slowly opened her eyes, finding herself in darkness, the blanket above her covering her entire body. Which was strange, since she hadn't covered herself all the way up, and she wasn't the kind of girl that moves around in her sleep.

She tried to grab onto it and pull it down in order to get off the bed- only to find out she couldn't feel her arms.

That woke her up completely, eyes widening in fear as she felt her heart race, shaking herself off in an attempt to regain control of her arms.

When that didn't work, she instead closed her eyes, focusing on calming down, breathing in and out, slowly. She was having a nightmare, and the best she could to is try to stay calm until she woke up, right?

She carefully crawled out of the covers and settled on her pillows, finding out they were much, much bigger than she remembered.

She turned around, eyes widening once more as she realized her entire room had somehow grown over twice its normal size.

(Either that, or she herself had shrunk down, which would probably make more sense.)

She decided to try reaching for her phone, a small part of her hoping if she could play some loud music, it'd wake up the real her. But as soon as she noticed her reflection on her phone's black screen, she let out a loud gasp, falling backwards onto the bed.

That wasn't herself at all!

She couldn't see properly with just her reflection, and the closest mirror was in her bathroom, so she had to use her phone. She took another deep breath as she approached again, then spoke, "OK Google, take a selfie."

While the device went back to life as it prepared for the photo, she let out a small sigh of relief. That was her voice, at least.

She wasn't prepared for what awaited her in the phone app of her phone. Staring right back at her while the app counted down for the picture was... some kind of doll monster? She'd never seen something like this before.

Once her selfie was taken, she could come closer in order to take a better look, and had a small idea of what she was supposed to be.

Despite not being into the entire franchise as much as her boyfriend was (and he's obsessed with it, to the point of having the entire collection of games in his bookshelf, as well as several decks from the card game), she was somewhat familiar with Pokémon, at least with the first two generations.

And with her limited knowledge she could recognize the pointy ears ending in black, and the red spots on her cheeks as the biggest signs that she was a Pikachu.

...a very, very malnourished Pikachu, given how thin and pale she looked.

(Was this her brain's way to ask her to eat more? She thought she was fine- last time she checked, her BMI was perfectly in the healthy ranges.)

Definitely a nightmare, then.

(She remembers watching the news a couple of days ago, a report about several people randomly turning into Pokémon overnight, with little to no explanation. Some of her classmates, even a teacher suddenly dropped out and cut contact with everyone, so they assumed they were affected.

But that couldn't be what was happening to her, she wasn't even a fan of the series! This was just a nightmare and she'd wake up soon.)

(She had to wake up. This wasn't real. It couldn't be!)

Carefully, she managed to make her way down to the ground and began to pace around, focusing on trying to force herself back awake. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't, she was stuck in her dreams for however long.

While she paced around, she suddenly heard someone pawing at the door, and after a moment, the door opened with a small bang to reveal her Malinois behind it. (She'd forgotten to lock her door again, Bella loved to come in and wake her up in the mornings anytime she found it unlocked.)

Lila smiled for a second, only for her smile to fade as soon as she remembered her current form.

Her dog loved to play with (or to be more accurate, maul and destroy) dolls and stuffed animals.

"...Bella, don't-" She didn't have enough time to finish, interrupted by the dog lunging at her while she quickly ducked back under the bed.

Her heart almost jumped out of her chest as she saw Bella trying to reach under the bed with her paws, wanting to grab her newest toy. This had to be her nightmare, doomed to death by mauling as revenge for the several plushies she'd bought for her dog.

(She had to run. She had to get out of here. She had to-)

Her thoughts were cut short as she suddenly found herself falling backwards through the wall she was backing onto, and falling down until she landed on top of her mom's beloved garden. Lila barely had time to react as she could hear her dog running towards the front door, clearly wanting to chase her.

While she didn't understand what happened, she didn't want to waste the head start she was given, and began to run away from home. It was still very early in the morning so the streets were empty, allowing her to cross without looking back.

Despite her dog being well trained to never run far from home, Lila didn't want to risk stopping, dream logic would make it so she's constantly chased by the canine until she was caught on her jaws, so she ran and ran.

It had been close to ten minutes when she bumped into someone, stumbling and almost falling backwards before she managed to steady herself. "...oh, sorry! Let me help you back up." The other person spoke. Lila looked up, and found herself staring up at a big, orange dragon, extending a clawed hand towards her.

"You're a Charizard," She answered, getting up without the dragon's help (She didn't want to appear rude, but she didn't have hands of her own to grab onto with.)

Said Charizard let out a short chuckle, nodding. "Apparently so. I still don't fully understand despite having my nephew explain it to me..."

Something in Lila's mind clicked as soon as she realized she recognized that voice.

"...wait, Mrs. Caroline?"

The older woman's expression shifted into surprise at the mention of her name, and leaned closer. "...Lila? Is that you?"

She grinned wide in response before answering. "I'm so glad to see you again!" Lila shouted, smile widening, "You have no idea how badly we've all been worried about you. What's going on?"

Caroline's smile faded a little as she sighed, "I'm sorry for not saying anything. But with this whole... thing going on, the university allowed everyone affected by this transformation to have some time off, and come back when we feel a little more... capable."

"...okay, that makes sense why I haven't seen some of my friends around then," Lila answered, "We were all worried they just dropped out, but I'm hoping to see them come back in that case."

Her teacher answered with a small laugh then said, "I plan on coming back soon! I just need to get used to my new reality." She shook her head, speaking in a lower voice. "I might have to sell my car since I don't fit inside anymore..."

"What was that?"

Caroline offered a smile instead of properly answering. "Nothing you have to worry about."

They stood in silence for a moment, Lila having nothing to add until her teacher began to turn around and waved at her. "Well, I hope to see you again soon, I have to get back home."

As her teacher left her alone, she had some time to think for herself. For now the best she could do is try to sleep this off, right?

There's no way she could come back to her own home, not without her dog still wanting to play with her. She looked around, realizing she was near her boyfriend's place.

A plan formed in her mind, she could get his help to explain to her parents where she was (she didn't carry her phone with her, and even if she did, she wouldn't be able to use it properly anymore) and as a bonus, get him to explain all he knew about Pikachu to her. (She could use some help to set up some sort of diet? Whatever it'd take to grow into what a healthy one should look like. And hopefully some hands alongside that.)

With that now in mind, she decided to continue on her way to Tony's home, trying to ignore the feeling of her body trying to use arms that weren't there anymore.
