Personality Details
Often represented as the sun, Ayu has a bright, cheerful, friendly personality resembled the sun itself. She was almost always seen with her bright, happy smile that radiates to everyone around her. She has a pleasing, likeable nature that invites people to be around her, accompanied with adaptable social skills. However, it was this very nature that sometimes puts people around her at bay. Not too close, but definitely not distant either. This occurred since her school days, which made her secretly lonely on the inside. Just like the sun whom people adore from afar, but keep a safe distance with.
Despite of how she looks, Ayu is actually pretty uptight especially when it comes to rules. She is a strict person whom always go by the rules and customs; choosing the safest path obediently instead of putting challenge—something that is quite different from a typical Gryffindor's stereotype. Though differ in that particular part; Ayu also shared the same courage and determination as her housemates. She is quite ambitious herself—combined with the previous trait; Ayu was the if I want to, I'll achieve it no matter what kind of person. She took many things more seriously than her impression suggests; her studies, her skills, especially her impression on the public. Ayu was quite popular—both in school and in the Pureblood society—and she was more conscious of this than anyone else. To them, Ayu is the perfect girl who is smart, skilled, proper—and perhaps; dangerous. However, deep inside—Ayu bears more sadness, resentment, and anger. Towards the entire world; her family, her surroundings, and the worst; herself. As she grew older; Ayu also realized that she had trouble in forgiveness; she wore grudge on daily basis; and she had no trouble in showing and/or manipulating them for her own benefit.
Background Story
The Sailendras.
The Sailendras are pureblood Indonesian family whom had been staying in Wales, Great Britain for decades. They are notorious for their Legillimency abilities, the art of mind-reading. Using their ability for espionage, blackmailing, negotiations, and political strategy, the House of Sailendra earned a high position of British Ministry of Magic Wizangemot. The secret of Legillimency lies deep within the family's secret files, written as follows: the Sailendras' Legillimency was a form of protection, inherited from their ancestors to their descendants. Each and every single children of Sailendra would have the access to Legilimency, though it is a choice whether to awake their abilities or not. For the art of Legillimency demanded sacrifices, sometimes too precious, too high of a price. To awaken one's ability of Legillimency, a sacrifice is needed. Particularly, one with deep emotions, either of rage, sadness, or even love, to the Sailendra. After their death, the soul of the death will inhibit the Sailendra's head and be their medium for Legillimency. One's competence in the mind-reading art is defined by two things: One is the ability to do Legillimency at will and the ability to control the medium.
Mama's Daughter.
Born as the second child, even from her childhood, it was clear Ayu was brimming with talents. She inherited her mother's knack for magic and spirituality; combined with Legillimency talents from her father. Her mother; Maharani, being a Muggleborn, in a noble Pureblood society was fully pressured by the expectations of heirs. Sagara, the oldest brother, and Ayu were almost constantly living under microscope; their achievements and failures were not only traveled through the society more than themselves; but also became their identity. While Sagara mostly followed their father, Pramodya, for his trainings; Ayu mostly spent her time with Maharani. She took care of her trainings, study and tutors; shaping her into the witch she is today. Ayu was the pride of her mother, Maharani. She was seen as her most successful result; especially because Ayu, who was keen on praises, had no hesitation showing all she got, compared to the quiet and laid back older brother Sagara.
The bond of Ayu and Maharani, just like how mother and daughter, runs deep; they shared love and understandings for each other; but there were also times when Ayu faced with her strictness in trainings. Maharani's standards were not low by any means; even to her daughter who shares the almost exact same face as her, and she made sure Ayu was aware of that. Ayu wasn't only aware; but she understood—mostly by unpleasant experiences—that failure to fulfill her standards would leads to nothing. She won't receive her mother's love, approval, praises, warmth—nothing, but disapproval.
Ever since she was a child; Ayu learned that the only way to keep her mother as herself—warm, cheerful, bright woman whom carefully making her hairdo and dressing to her taste—was to fulfill her expectations.
Ayu knew that she was her mother's pride. Her joy. Her most successful.
Ayu was a Mama's daughter. She was cursed to be one.
She had no other choice but to oblige.
The Older Sister.
Ayu wished that things would be better once she had siblings. She had a younger brother; Dhanaya, whom later only showed talents for Quidditch and trouble, and Ambara; the youngest.
Truth to be told; despite always causing her trouble and sole to the Sailendra name; Ayu liked Dhanaya. He showed the courageous rebellion that neither Sagara nor Ayu was capable of pulling. Not to mention how funny he was and his pranks—Ayu was never the victim of them; so she only shared the laugh. Despite their parents were often too hard on him, Ayu never saw Dhanaya as the entire world do; trouble-maker, good for nothing son. In her eyes; Dhanaya was one of her dear brothers.
Ambara, on the other hand, was more complicated.
Perhaps it was because she was unexpected. Dhanaya was supposed to be the last Sailendra child. However, five years, he was dethroned by Ambara as the youngest. The element of surprise bloomed into affections, and then; love. Ayu was already eight when she held the new-born Ambara in her arms. Even at that moment; feeling how little her youngest sister in her embrace, Ayu's hearts was filled with love and only love for her. It turns out; the entire family also had the very same experience.
Perhaps it was also because their parents were getting old. They were getting even more sentimental, more laid-back. Ambara didn't have the same parents as Sagara and Ayu. In the youngest siblings' eyes, their parents were doting, loving, the perfect happy family anyone could ask for.
At first, Ayu was glad for her. 'Good for her; they didn't have to go through what I went through.' She thought. However, later on, this thought bloomed into something else—jealousy. 'Why did I have to go through it, not her?' The jealousy later on burned, leaving ashes of resentment that stuck with her heart. It cracked into her love; leaving impure imperfections that tainted her heart.
And she hated herself for them.
All and all; Ayu took her role as the oldest sister seriously. She always thought of herself to be responsible for her younger siblings. She knew, that was the role her mother bestowed for her; and she couldn't fail her. That was why, when something happened to her siblings; her heart tore into two. One thought of them as a burden, one thought of them as siblings she loved.
