However, he has no control over his Ability's true form; he will continue in that state if his Ability is not nullified until he dies.

PERSONALITY
At the first glance, Chūya appears to be volatile, temperamental. A forthright and blunt of an individual that he is. He takes delight in combat fighting, eager to showcase his fighting prowess — he takes pride of himself greatly, as the mafia's deadly weapon. He consistently displays unwavering loyalty to any group he's associated with: Sheep, Flags, and Port Mafia. He is unhesitating in dispatching the Port Mafia's foes by all means necessary, including assassination, yet his approach is not as murderously inclined as those of figures like Ryunosuke Akutagawa. As an intensely loyal person, Chūya considers betrayal utterly unacceptable and is known for treating his subordinates with considerable kindness.

Chūya is somewhat manipulative and uses people as pawns to get what he wants. He is actively aggressive towards people and he finds it difficult to contain his emotions. Clearly insecure, he often can’t handle criticism of any kind and becomes defensive when there is anything negative said about him. He thinks that he is right about everything and hates people challenging his opinions. Impulsive, thrill-seeking, and indulges in all kinds of sensory pleasures, Chūya feels alive in high-risk situations and often does things for attention.

Although merciless, Chūya rarely underestimates the value of human life and understands the significance of compromise and level-headedness. He avoids excessively harsh tactics unless absolutely necessary, and possesses the wisdom to recognize when to draw the line. A prime example is his encounter with Arthur Rimbaud, who once tried to assassinate him well before his affiliation with the Port Mafia at age fifteen, when he was on the search of his true origins. Chūya was resolved to end Rimbaud's life, yet he listened to Rimbaud's final utterances without spite or ridicule. Remarkably, Rimbaud's last words profoundly influenced Chūya's self-perception of whether or not he is a human:

Chūya-kun, you're probably not the Arahabaki itself, but a human chosen as a vessel to control it. But you're strong as a person; not a God. No matter what lives inside you, you are already your own person. After all, every person, every creature, lives without ever finding what they really are.

His perception as a clone who was experimented on by the government to be a vessel of Arahabaki (a personification of calamity and destruction which is something not more than a mass and energy) led to profound doubts about his own human nature, exacerbated by the mystery of why he was released from government custody initially, by Rimbaud.

While his formidable abilities instilled a sense of invincibility, leaving him with little worry or fear in combat, confident in emerging victorious and unscathed , oftentimes this led him to perceive himself as somewhat non-human, detaching him from fully grasping the depth of human emotions — his biggest insecurity. Moreover, Chūya often questions whether or not his personality is something he naturally developed overtime or is merely an artificial formula implemented in him through programming. There was a time when Dazai stated he doesn't think it's possible to program a personality he could despise so much; by heart, he believes, the current Chūya is a human.

At some point in his life, Chūya decides it doesn't matter where he comes from and what he really is. Despite still having all of these insecurities, he chooses to move forward; vows to give his all to the Port Mafia and protect them and the city he loves, Yokohama.

As one of the Twin Dark alongside Dazai Osamu, Chūya typically plays the role of the combatant, whereas Dazai functions as the strategist, enhancing their collective efficacy. Nevertheless, due to their constant bickery, even a minor provocation from Dazai can easily agitate Chūya, exploiting his quick temper and vanity. This susceptibility often leads to Chūya being easily sidetracked from his current objectives.

VERSES.

  • Venom City: In which Chūya departured rom Yokohama, only to reside in Venom City (Spades District)—working as a distributor.
  • Pre—Beast: During Oda's demise, Chūya was dispatched overseas on an assignment for a duration of six months. Upon his return to Yokohama, he received a promotion, ascending to the rank of executive within the Port Mafia. Concurrently, Dazai vanished, engulfed in sorrow over Oda's death. When Dazai eventually returned, it was prophesied that he would ascend to the position of the Mafia's future leader. Thus both he and Chūya collaborated alongside each other, serving together as executives.

TRIVIA.

  • Chūya smokes Golden Bat cigarettes.
  • He has a questionable alcohol tolerance, despite having a penchant for alcoholic beverages.
  • He appreciates music. Hard rock, preferably.
  • He is particularly fond of hats. Little did he know, his hat helps him to balance the density of his gravity.
  • Although he possesses petite figure, he's quite muscular.
  • In order to activate Corruption, he must chant 'Grantors of dark disgrace, you need not wake me again' - a stanza in "Sheep Song" (a poem written by the namesake Japanese poet, Nakahara Chūya)
