Under an Evil Star hypes the evil part a lot, so I was thinking of getting some big name demon like Ootakemaru or Shuten Doji. So I think I'd lean towards her version from Abe no Seimei's time. What would Kukurihimie's relationship to Seimei be, and how big of a deal would she herself have been? Considering the ancient/goddess origin (which goddess, btw?), I'd assume she'd be up there herself, but if her inheritance got cut off by Seimei, I'm curious how it compares to now. Was Kukurihime herself depowered by the barrier, or just limited in access? If you plan to explore it further, you can just paint it in very broad strokes. Mainly, how would you see the power dynamic between her and such a demon back then, and compared to now. Like, was he a massive challenge for her back then and maybe she had to cooperate with Seimei to seal him? Or the other way around, she looked down on the demon back then, but a millennium where she's been cut off from the proper inheritor line might have have weakened her and given the demon a shot at revenge?

As for the contemporary plot, I was thinking rather broadly that the old evil starts to stir, and tries to use his far, far off descendant in Ran, to once again gain access to the mortal world. Madoka's senses pick up something first based on that connection with Kukurihimie, although not clearly (like she feels some stench around Ran, or she gets nauseous in his presence; a slight chance for some SOL humour scene before things get serious later), insert some complications, consulting with Kukurihimie, more complications, more complications and finally a battle against said ancient evil in the idea world to fulfil the shonen logic (unless I come up with something else).
