⤷ KAIN: Wasn't expecting to witness our MC, Sejin, very visibly cutting herself within a minute of the movie. It kind of threw me off a bit and I did have to look away, but nonetheless I continued to watch. Sejin's attitude towards her bullies right after who ridiculed her for cutting herself was honestly really interesting. She just sat there and smiled, laughed, and basically acted all ditzy, like she didn't care. She's kind of like that throughout the entire movie, and I honestly really like that about her character. She really reminded me a lot of Lottie, my headmate who has the same happy-go-lucky attitude despite all of the bullshit we go through on a daily basis. So, I kind of felt connected to her character in a way—though, not me, but more-so Lottie since she was in front and watching as well. Anyway, it kind of broke my heart to witness Sejin's boyfriend get physically abused by his father in front of both his mother and Sejin, because Sejin ended up pregnant. Her boyfriend was so cute and smiley, I felt so bad for him. I really liked watching Sejin's relationship with her new runaway friend Joo-young, and how quickly they became close friends. Them practically relying on each-other (plus the rest of the runaways of their group) throughout the entire movie really spoke to me. I honestly feel like this movie resonated with me a lot, especially with the themes of Sejin's struggle with suicide, self-harm and substance usage. And then witnessing her and her little group of runaways becoming family, and only having each-other. It felt so special to me. Another scene that broke my heart was Joo-young going to the station to try and pick up Sejin after she got taken away by police. She was bawling her eyes out, begging the man to let her see her "sister". When the man's response was that Sejin needed a guardian to see her and get her out, Joo-young kept begging and cried that there was nobody else, just Joo-young. Ugh. The ending was honestly really confusing and the movie was a bit too slow-paced for me, so that gets a few points off on the rating. Overall, I really enjoyed it and Sejin's character. I'd definitely recommend watching it if you don't mind the warnings listed.
