ill update this soon i dont indulge in debates anymore main

Attacking the Person or Source

  • Ad Hominem
Attacking the person instead of their argument.
  • Genetic Fallacy
Rejecting something based on its origin rather than its merits.

Appeals to Emotion or Popularity

  • Appeal to Emotion
Using fear, pity, anger, etc. instead of logic.
  • Appeal to Popularity (Bandwagon)
“Everyone believes it, so it must be true.”
  • Appeal to Authority
Claiming something is true because an authority says so (even if irrelevant).

Faulty Logic or Structure

  • Strawman
Misrepresenting someone’s argument to make it easier to attack.
  • False Dilemma (Either/Or Fallacy)
Presenting only two options when more exist.
  • Circular Reasoning (Begging the Question)
The conclusion is just a restatement of the premise.
  • Non Sequitur
The conclusion doesn’t logically follow from the premise.

Poor Causal Reasoning

  • Post Hoc (False Cause)
Assuming A caused B just because A happened first.
    Correlation ≠ Causation
Two things happening together doesn’t mean one caused the other.
  • Slippery Slope
Claiming one action will lead to a chain of disasters without evidence.

Faulty Generalizations

  • Hasty Generalization
Drawing a conclusion from too little evidence.
  • Composition/Division
Assuming what’s true of parts is true of the whole (or vice versa).

Redirection or Distraction

  • Red Herring
Introducing something irrelevant to distract from the issue.
  • Tu Quoque (“You too”)
Dismissing criticism by pointing out the accuser’s hypocrisy.
