Report on case 01.12.07.17

The following diary was found at the home of one ▮▮▮▮ ▮▮▮▮▮▮▮, seven years ago. Rent was several weeks late, and when the locked house was broken into, it was found in a state of severe disrepair with one broken window. Blood was found throughout the crime scene, with one particular trail leading out of the house through the aforementioned window.

Current consensus among law enforcement amidst reports of ▮▮▮▮'s behavior on the days preceding his disappearance, as well as the contents of the diary itself, is that the writer in question suffered an undiagnosed case of frontotemporal dementia, which lead to an attack of psychosis wherein he proceeded to wreak havoc on his house, kill his wife, and drag the body to the nearby forest. Neither person was ever found:

Day 1

The doctor recommended keeping record of my experiences and thoughts as it would allow me to process them in healthier ways or... something like that. I wasn't paying too much attention, which I guess is probably a bad thing. One thing he did tell me is to write it as though I were writing it like a letter, to somebody else. I thought that was unusual, but hey, doctor's orders.
So, uh, hi, me. My name is ▮▮▮▮ ▮▮▮▮▮▮▮, but most of my friends just call me 'Gabriel'. Embarrassing story, really, you wouldn't wanna know it. I have a wonderful, wonderful wife, called Ouro Kronii, and she is just the most perfect being in the world, I don't even know how to say it. I mean, just such a great, caring person, great voice, and just the most captivating way of singing. And a great body, too! I'm a lucky dude, what can I say?
Anyway, yeah, well, I'd love to keep talking, but uh, page's running out and I wanna do one page per day, so what do you say to calling it quits here, huh, buddy? I'll be back tomorrow for more cool stuff to tell you, certainly.

[DIARY ENTRIES 2 TO 126 OMITTED DUE TO LACK OF RELEVANCE TO CASE]

Day 127

Kronii came up to me yesterday after I wrote my entry, said she had a great craving for carrots. Personally, I thought it was weird because she's never actually particularly liked carrots. I mean, indifferent to them, but she never wanted to go out of her way to eat them. Frankly, I was a little concerned it might've meant a pregnancy, so I made her take the test and it came back negative. So I really don't know.
Well, either way, we still went off to the bakery to buy some carrot cake. She enjoyed it so much, it was like the best food she's ever eaten in years. You can see how that might be cause for concern, right? I mean, I was happy, I love my wife, love seeing her happy, but I just don't really know... she always makes a damn good dinner, and I KNOW there's food out there she likes a whole lot better than carrots.
Well, maybe in the end it doesn't matter. Maybe she just... had random cravings. I mean hell, I've had random cravings myself. I don't know why my mind focused on it so hard, personally.

Day 128

Kronii went to the store today, and brought back a giant bag of carrots. I do mean gigantic. I think there must've been 500 in there alone or something, it was like a farmer's god damn haul. And I have no idea how she even managed to carry it back. I nearly jumped out of the couch when I saw her push the door open and drag it in.
I asked her about it, she just looked at me with this expression like I should've known why already. Personally, I'm concerned, but it's fine. It's fine, right? She's just... pranking me, or something. I can document it, I can write it all down here and then show her it so we can have a great big laugh about it later. And hey, if anything happens I can take her to a doctor, maybe she's got Carrot Obsession Syndrome or something like that, hah.
The bag's still sitting out there, in the kitchen. I keep asking her about it, but she won't answer. It bothers me, real bad, but well... Again, it'll be fine. It'll be fine.

Day 129

Kronii called out to me and said ▮▮▮▮, which immediately put me on high alert, because she never calls me that. She always calls me Gabriel or Gabe or whatever comes to her mind, never ▮▮▮▮. Unless she's real mad.
So I walked in, tippy toes and everything, and there she was. She was smiling, actually, quite pleased with me. And let me tell you, the smell was out of this world good. She had baked a bunch of carrot... well, everything. Carrot cake, carrot pie, carrot salad, pickled carrots, roasted carrots, carrot sandwiches, carrot on a burger. She put carrot on pizza, dear God. She made carrot ice cream, don't know how she even accomplished that one. Carrot popsicles, carrot stew, carrot soup. Everything you can think of.
Now, my wife's always been good at cooking, but this was excessive. I saw some shit in there I've never seen anywhere else in my life. There was jello, and there was carrots INSIDE the jello, floating in it. Those huge fuckin' shrimps, cut open with mashed carrots stuffing their insides, little slices as garnish... She made alcoholic drinks out of it.
It scared me. I won't beat around the bush, I really was scared. Our kitchen is huge, and it was stuffed to the brim with this stuff. It was too unlike her. I told her we needed to go to a hospital, needed to see a doctor. This couldn't continue.
She told me she was fine. Pushed me away, told me she just wanted to try something out. I listened to her, I believed in her because trust is what makes our relationship work, and I left her alone. I figured that maybe we could sell some of this stuff, and we could eat the rest. It's dinner for a few weeks, I'm sure.

Day 130

I'm a damn genius, people ate this stuff up. We made a good fifty dollars out of it and some even tipped us for an extra twenty! Swear the entire neighborhood showed up, it was like they were attracted to the smell or something.
That said, I'm already fucking sick of carrots. Barely been a day. She made so much and it was all we had for breakfast, lunch, dinner. I am close to done. Meat glazed with carrots, mashed carrots, carrot on carrot bread. I feel like throwing up [peko].
The worst part is, we have enough to
I don't remember writing that. What is that? Fuck, this is why I said I'd regret using a pen to write this stuff, now I can't erase it that easily. I'll have to go to the store later...
That doesn't matter though. Actually, I shouldn't erase it. No, I wrote it without thinking, I don't even know what it means. I can document it, show it to my doctor later, maybe it's some kind of tic. I don't know why I'm obsessing over it so badly, it's just an accident. Just an acident [sic]
Anyway,
We have enough carrot stuff to last us the week. This is exhausting already and I'm just going to keep selling it, maybe we'll work through it faster. Kronii refuses to eat most of it, she tells me I'll enjoy it more, and I have no goddamn idea what she's even talking about. I managed to catch her eating though.
Raw carrots. It didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Why raw carrots? She made a whole bunch of stuff, why eat it raw?
She told me to trust her, and I will, but is that really trust? Is it right to leave someone alone when they tell you they're fine but they're clearly not? I don't know. I wanna know, I hate not knowing.

Day 131

I'm taking her to the doctor tomorrow. I've already made up my mind. When you see someone acting like this, you can't ignore it. It's not real love. I gotta do it for me, too, I'm starting to catch whatever she has.
Sorry. Sorry, I should elaborate on what I'm thinking, what I saw. I came back home from work like usual, and she told me "Good morning, darling. What do you pekowant for dinner?"
That's what she said. I'm not paraphrasing. She said it, 'peko', the same damn thing I wrote by accident yesterday. I started panicking, but I didn't want to show it, so I just kept it on the down low. I tried to start some banter, teased her about the carrots, but she just sounded really sad. She asked me if I didn't want to eat her carrots.
I mean, I didn't, but you gotta tell those white lies from time to time, right? So I told her it was okay, we were making good money from selling those and they tasted good. She picked right up after that, and for just a second, it made me feel happy again seeing her giggle and smile. Like we were living in normalcy again.
She kept sneaking 'peko' into her sentences. It made no sense to me. I wonder if she even noticed it, probably not. I had to take a second look at the paper when I wrote it yesterday. Shit, what if I've said it too and didn't notice myself saying it?
You know what. It's fine. It'll be fine, it'll be fine.
I don't know what else to tell you.
But, I can tell you why I decided for sure we needed to see a doctor.
Five minutes ago, before I started writing this, I peeked into the bathroom, from our bedroom. The door was wide open, so I could see everything. She was throwing up something strange, weird chunks... she washed her mouth, and left without flushing. I went in, didn't make a noise.
There were partially digested chunks of carrot floating in the water. Squirming like worms.
I flushed it.

Day 132

I can document it.
It's fine.
I drove to the hospital, Kronii was in the backseat. I left the house, I went into the highway. Drove for one hour, got stuck in traffic for two. Took a turn to the hospital street.
Back at my home again. I didn't even notice it. I was just in the same street as our house, like we never left.
I thought I was having a nightmare, pinched myself, no effect. Said screw it, tried driving there again. No cars this time, only took me an hour and 30 minutes. Back at my damn home again.
I walked out of the car, asked Kronii what the hell was going on. She told me, exact words, "I don't know, peko. I heard carrots help with your memory as much as they do with vision, maybe you should eat some?"
I made her go into the house, I told her something was deeply wrong, that this wasn't right, it wasn't normal, something was happening and we needed to see a doctor. She told me she was fine.
I tried again, I got her into the car, I drove, it didn't matter, back home again. She told me she needed to use the bathroom real bad, I screamed after she entered back into the house. Just needed to get it out.
I gave up. I figured this had to be a nightmare, just a very long, very realistic nightmare. I'm heading to bed soon like always, it'll be fine. I'll wake up, I'll wake up tomorrow and things will be normal again. I'm already aware of the nightmare, I just gotta make it a
Sorry. Kronii went by to say goodnight.
Is it just me or is her hair starting to get lighter?

[(The next few entries are no longer numbered. Evidence suggests they were all written in the same day)]

That's not kronii [sic]
That's someone else. No, it is? She was on the floor, like she was having a seizure. It's not Kronii though. But I watched it.
I watched her become peko
STOP. Stop writing it. I am going to punch my arm until it gets bruised. It's not her, it's not her, it's not her. I watched Kronii twitch on the floor with her limbs flailing about and it was horrifying and I am a failure. I can document it I can document it peko

I picked up a wooden board this is how pekora defends herself. Its over already kronii is dead, she died when she became pekora. I will too, it's just a matter of time because she keeps tying to break out of my head I can document it. Thats why Im writing it to to document it people need to know after Im gone

Ill wake up soon peko

Entries end after this point.

The case was considered inconclusive even with plausible theories as to the exact nature of reports. ▮▮▮▮'s neighbors did in fact report a large sale of carrot-based foodstuffs, although the house's fridge was found empty when searched. Furthermore, they expressed concerns over the couple's disappearance a few days before the house was broken into.
Forensic experts did not find any fingerprints on the scene. Traces of orange, white and black fabric were found on various objects throughout the house, as well as strands of hair.
Analysis on the blood found on the scene revealed heavily degenerated DNA and a match to either inhabitant was found to be impossible. The investigation was held at a standstill for five years and was never released to the public until it was closed by Deputy Superintendent General Usaburou (兎三朗).
No plans are held to ever pekopen the case.
