home? starring ; hitari, tentten.

tentten and hitari had been looking forward to this day for weeks — a rare opportunity to get away from everyone who thinks they're doing wrong and everything that tries to get in their way by having a peaceful picnic in a remote field. the weather was perfect: the sun shone brightly with just enough breeze to make the grass sway gently around them.

they arrived at the field early, a cozy wicker basket in hand, filled with sandwiches, fruit, and multiple thermos containing warm drinks such as coffee, and cold, such as lemonade. the field, untouched by the noise of traffic and crowded spaces, felt like their own little slice of paradise. they spread out the iconic purple and white checkered blanket that they always bring with them, and both took a moment to appreciate the quiet.

"this is perfect," tentten said, lying down and stretching out on the blanket. "i swear, i could sleep out here forever."

hitari, who had already unpacked the food, giggled. "i don't think it would be the most comfortable sleep. not with all this grass poking me."

tentten rolled over onto her stomach, propping her chin in her hands. "it's so worth it though. we have this whole place to ourselves. imagine the whole world could be like this - and besides, nothings comfier then being alone with you."

as the afternoon wore on, they laughed, ate, and talked about everything from the ridiculous things kaamu has done lately, to the truth behind their friends histories, to the more serious topics that always seemed to come up between them. although 'serious', neither of them ever feel like its serious. everything feels light, easy, as if nothing could trouble them now theyre here. every now and then, they looked up at the cloudless sky, content.

halfway through their lunch, hitari had a sudden idea. “let’s go for a walk to that dock i saw when we were driving here. there's a small lake, and ducks!”

tentten stood up, brushing grass from her skirt. “ducks is all i need to hear. let's go.”

they packed up the blanket, folded it neatly, and set off toward the dock. The walk was peaceful, the gravel path leading them through wildflowers and over small wooden bridges.

but as usual as it is with tentten and hitari, things weren’t always as serene and simple as they seemed. when they reached the dock, they realized they’d forgotten one crucial detail.

“oh they are just SO cute!! so.. do you have any bread?” tentten asked, eyeing the ducks bobbing in the water.

“nope,” hitari replied, her expression sheepish. “i thought you had it.”

a silence fell over them, both staring at eachother, and then the ducks, who seemed to be giving them a judgmental look.

tentten sighed dramatically, but then a grin spread across her face. “well, we can’t leave them hanging.”

hitari raised an eyebrow doubtfully.
“so what do you have in mind? feeding them leaves?”

tentten smirked. “i’ll simply have to make a sacrifice.” she reached into the half ravaged basket and pulled out a perfectly good half of a sandwich, carefully wrapped up in cling film. “it’s either this… or we go back to the field and hope we can find some breadcrumbs with a magnifying glass.”

hitari stared for a second, absorbing, before she burst out laughing. “tentten.. no way are you giving up your last sandwich slice.” but tentten had already torn a chunk off and tossed it into the water. the ducks quacked enthusiastically and rushed toward the scraps that tentten had so kindly sacrificed not only for their satisfaction, but also her girlfriends and her own.

“well, I guess that worked,” hitari said, still chuckling. “they did seem to enjoy it alot more then we did.. and i think they like us now, but i do owe you a sandwich later.”

“i’ll be sure hold you to that,” tentten said with a wink.

they spent the next few minutes tossing bits and pieces of the sandwich to the ducks, who happily scrambled for the food.

when they were satisfied with their impromptu meal for the ducks, they sat on the edge of the dock, their feet dangling in the air.

“see? It’s always the little things,” tentten said, leaning her head on hitaris shoulder. “a missed sandwich, but we made it work.”

hitari nodded, a soft smile on her face. “yeah. sometimes it’s the funny moments that make the day perfect.”

the two sat there in comfortable silence, watching the sun start to dip below the horizon. as the last of the daylight faded, they gathered all of their things together and made their way back through the field, walking back toward the car as their carefree laughter echoed through the quiet evening air.

"i know we're about to leave.. but..." tentten started, shyly.

hitari turned towards her in a gentle and softened manner, "yes?"

"can we stay a little longer and just watch the stars? i just want to be here with you a little longer."

she chuckled, "y'know, tentten, i was just about to ask you that exact same question."

they lay side by side in the field, the soft grass beneath them and the vast, starry sky above. the world felt impossibly quiet, and the only sound was their quiet laughter as they pointed out constellations, trying to name them. "that one’s definitely a dragon," tentten said, grinning. hitari raised an eyebrow. "more like a squiggly line," she teased.
they exchanged a playful glance before returning to the stars, content in the simple, peaceful moment, as the night stretched on, just the two of them and the infinite sky.

when they finally reached taris car, she turned to tentten. “you know… next time, let’s bring double the bread.”

tentten laughed. “agreed. but today? perfect.”
