PREFACE

Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, the sole son of the ????? was expected to follow in either of his parent's footsteps right from the start. To be a surgeon who saves lives or a soldier who takes lives.

While others were promised toys and dreams at a young age, Yves was offered power and wealth perfectly wrapped in the guise of a family's love. Oh, but don't get them wrong, he was so, so loved.

Loved like his father's newest set of weapons, those of which he would clean day and night. Cherished like his mother's books, those of which hid him from her sight. Kept safe like badges of honor, those of which adorned his father's uniform. Cared for like cattle, those of which his family liked to hunt during the weekends. Yes, he was loved, cherished, kept safe, and cared for caged.

But, it was only until he happened. Thus, Yves was caged until he wasn't. Until he forced it open with his similarly small and bare hands.

Then, he was free.

But, it was only until it happened. Yves wasn't caged until he was, again. Until he shoved him back in that cage with the same small hands, now painted crimson.

VETERINARY

Yves has always found himself loving animals a lot more than the people who answered his every whim back when he was 4.

As sheltered as he could be, his only companion during his early childhood were the animals gifted to him during his birthdays. Years later and upon leaving his hometown, Yves was in a state of feeling lost. But, after choosing to turn his back from everything and everyone that he knew, he found solace in animals for they were what remained constant no matter where he went. He then decided to pursue veterinary medicine.

At present, Yves works as a veterinarian in the metro. Like anyone in their first job, vet work has made him busy enough to leave the skeletons at the farthest, most secluded corner of his mind. While he never became what he was meant (ie. forced, supposed) to become, Yves believes he is the most free now.

SPEED

Yves knew he was an adrenaline junkie after he fell in line to get hand-tapped tattoos at the age of 14 (he was not able to get one because he was found by one of his guardians before he could). Or when he let the adults use his ears for piercing practice at the age of 15. Or when he left home at the age of 17. He could have also found out when he conquered a large wave in Cebu, head on, during his first time learning how to surf at the age of 18.

But, the final nail in his adrenaline-addled coffin was entering his friend's Nissan Skyline GT-R and watching the blur of city lights as they partook in an illegal street race, also at the age of 18. What started as an innocent interest in cars for his own convenience has eventually evolved into a full-blown desire to hear the roar of an engine and watch as tires burn up the tracks.

That night, the thrill of having police cars hot on their tails was more than enough for Yves' adrenaline-seeking self. It was enough to make him feel alive, once again.

True enough, as soon as the next day came, he scoured the internet for a second-hand car that would let him relive the moment again. At present, Yves continues to join street races, albeit not as often as he used to when he was still a student.

LUKA YVES.
