‘Experienced person’ Shin Tae-yong’s request “Support Klinsmann instead of leaving hateful comments”

Remarks at the official press conference for the game against Australia:
“It may depend on the players’ condition.”

Indonesian coach Shin Tae-yong, who had suffered from a lot of criticism and condemnation while leading the Korean national team in the past, protected Klinsmann, who is currently not well received by public opinion. He emphasized that during the competition, he only needed cheering instead of hateful comments.

Indonesia will play the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup against Australia at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar at 8:30 pm (Korean time) on the 28th.

If Indonesia defeats Australia and Korea defeats Saudi Arabia, the two teams will meet in the quarterfinals.

Accordingly, Coach Shin said in an official pre-game press conference held at 6 PM on the 27th, the day before, “Tomorrow’s game will definitely not be an easy game for us. (But) soccer balls are round,” he said. “Personally, I want to play a great game in the quarterfinals together (by beating Australia and Saudi Arabia, respectively).”

He also showed extraordinary affection for the national team. Coach Shin previously led the Korean national team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. New coach, who was urgently deployed as a firefighter to fill the vacancy left by former coach Uli Stielike, received a lot of criticism after performing poorly in the first and second group matches.

They lost 0-1 in the first match against Sweden, and lost 1-2 in the second match of the group against Mexico.

Fortunately, in the final match against Germany, they won 2-0, turning public opinion around. Although they failed to advance to the round of 16, they gained a lot of support by beating Kangho.

In relation to this, Coach Shin argued that players should be strengthened so that they do not waver even when their performance is below expectations.

It was similar to Son Heung-min (Tottenham)’s statement after the Malaysia game, when he said, “I hope the media and fans don’t shake the players.”

Coach Shin said, “It can be said that Klinsmann is under considerable psychological pressure (currently). “Coaches and players open the Internet on their cell phones and check, ‘Is there anything to say today or not?’” he said.

He continued, “I think fans may have been disappointed. However, soccer fans should believe in the players and send messages of support rather than malicious comments,” he added.

Coach Shin also said, “Even if you leave a negative comment (you shouldn’t post it), you have to post it after the game. “Now, it’s more about support than malicious comments,” he said. “Starting with Coach Klinsmann, we need to support the players so that they can feel more confident.” “In my experience, support can bring better results,” he emphasized.
