Chuuni Time

The building I was previously standing on shattered. Chunks of concrete and steel filled the air as I landed on the street below just out of harm's way. I'd dealt with many foes in my life, but this guy was something else. He was already rising up out of the debris with steam pouring off of him. And on his face was the scariest smile I had ever seen.

"Who are you?" I demanded as he began to advance towards me again. "What the hell are you?"

"My name is unimportant!" he proclaimed proudly. "I am but a loyal Kronie!"

"No Kronie could destroy an entire building with a single attack like that!"

He stopped, head tilting slightly to the side. "Such is the power of my hugs! You may have evaded the first few, but now I'm operating at 100%!"

Suddenly he was launching towards me with surprising speed. I flung my arms wide, stopping time in its tracks. He was frozen mid-air as I announced, "Weren't you listening to my debut? One of my powers is time manipulation! You can't get near me unless I wish it!"

To my horror, his head and smile twitched as he replied, "Yeah? What about it? Every Kronie does his time reps! A simple halt of time won't stop my hugs from reaching you!"

He somehow broke through the time stop and continued to hurtle at me. I dove to the side just in time for him to go slamming into another building.

"Fine! I guess I'll get serious then!" I warned him, summoning forth my twin blades. "Maybe a few directed cuts will teach you not to screw with me!"

His smile somehow grew and his eyes glittered as he replied, "Wonderful! You're finally taking me seriously! That means I should get serious as well."

My eyes narrowed in shock. "This wasn't you being serious?!"

My blades only just came up in time to deflect his sweeping arms. "Hah ha ha! Of course not! It seems you're built to evade me! If you can really withstand my hugging at 100% of my power, then I'll have to go beyond that and force you to take my hugs!"

"How does that even work?! You can't just power up like that!"

Metal clangs rang out as we teleported around the city, destroying buildings as we went. He was good. Too good. And the scary part was I was starting to feel actual pressure.

After one particularly close clash, we separated, panting. "You... You have no idea what you're trying to do!" I yelled at him. "What it is you're doing to yourself! The human body wasn't designed to operate on the levels you are! Don't you see?! Every second you try and hug me like this, you shave off even more of your already limited lifespan!"

His laughter was confident and proud as he spat out some blood. "So what? I said I'm going to bring a smile to your face, and that's exactly what I'm going to do!"

He somehow got even faster. I just barely got off a time stop, and even then he was still approaching me too rapidly to evade or block it. I was forced to shunt myself through time, to a place I knew he couldn't reach me: The beginning of everything. The Big Bang itself.

"Whew... Finally lost you," I sighed, wiping the sweat off my forehead.

"KRRRROOONNNNNIIIIIII!!!!!"

Aghast, I turned around to see that something was emerging from the primordial ball of energy that would spawn the universe. It was him.

"B-But that's impossible! You can't be here!"

"A real Gosling... will always find a way for his oshi to smile!" he bellowed as he approached at what seemed superluminal speeds.

I had no choice. If he could follow me through time, and my blades cutting him did nothing, then I had only one course of action. I had to hop timelines. I arrived back at the city where it all began, though in a universe where the scuffle had never happened.

"You fought well, mysterious Kronie," I whispered. "But now it's over. After following me to the Big Bang, there's no way you have enough energy to reach me here."

"That's where you're wrong!"

My eyes went as wide as possible as I realized he was right behind me. "M-Masaka!! How?!"

"Now for a lesson!" he said, his arms spreading wide like great pincers. "This power has been entrusted to me by all the Kronies, praying that it would bring you happiness! That all their hopes for you would come true!"

His arms flew at speeds that were impossible. I couldn't do anything. He was going to hug me.

"You may have heard these words before. But I'll teach you what they really mean!"

No! Please don't!

"This is what it means to go even further beyond!"

I can't... if you hug me now!

"UNITED. SUUPPAAACHAT. CRRRUUUUUUSSSSSHHHHHUUUUU!!!!!"

Time stopped. He was squeezing me so lovingly that I broke into tears. I didn't deserve this. And yet... and yet he had done something truly unheard of.

"You... you idiot!" I stammered as tears flowed down my cheeks. "No one's ever gone this far before! Do you know what you've done?!"

He nodded. "Yes. I've reminded my oshi that she's not alone anymore."

At that point, I couldn't help but smile. If only at how abusrd it all was. "Idiot. You know you only have a few seconds left before you literally disintegrate, right? I told you before. Humans just aren't built for what you just did."

Patting the back of my head, he graveled, "Yeah. But that's okay. I may fall here, but the hopes of all the Kronies will live on. And if ever you need a smile again, someone new will replace me."

Then he started to crumble away. I tried to hug him back but it was too late. The moment had passed. I was alone again. But his fiery words had reached my icy heart.

"You got me," I murmured, the corners of my mouth curling upwards. "If that's what the Kronies want, then maybe I can learn to be happy."
