Privacy Policy — QR Coder — Tab to QR

Last updated: May 19, 2026

Overview

QR Coder — Tab to QR ("the Extension") is a Chrome extension that generates QR codes from the URL of the current browser tab or from any text/URL you type into its popup. This Privacy Policy explains what the Extension does (and does not do) with your data.

Short version: the Extension does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. Everything happens locally in your browser.

Information We Collect

None. The Extension does not collect, log, or transmit any of the following:

  • Personal identifiers (name, email, phone, address, IP, user ID)
  • Health, financial, authentication, personal communications, or location information
  • Web history or browsing activity
  • User activity (clicks, keystrokes, mouse movement)
  • Website content beyond the URL of the tab you explicitly choose to convert
  • Any analytics, telemetry, or crash reports

How the Extension Works

When you click the Extension's toolbar icon:

  1. The Extension reads the URL of the currently active tab in order to encode it into a QR code. This uses the activeTab permission, which Chrome grants only for the tab you are actively viewing and only while the popup is open.
  2. The URL (or any text you type) is converted into a QR code entirely on your device using a bundled, open-source QR generation library.
  3. The QR code image is rendered inside the popup. You can optionally download it as a PNG to your local Downloads folder.

At no point is the tab URL, the typed text, or the generated QR image sent to any server, third party, or the developer.

Permissions Justification

The Extension requests a single permission:

  • activeTab — required to read the URL of the tab you are currently viewing so it can be turned into a QR code. This permission is scoped to the active tab and only while you interact with the Extension. It does not grant access to your full browsing history or to other tabs.

The Extension does not request any host permissions, does not use background scripts that run persistently, and does not inject code into web pages.

Remote Code

The Extension does not load, execute, or rely on any remote code. All scripts (including the QR code generation library) are bundled inside the Extension package, in accordance with Chrome Web Store Manifest V3 policy.

Third-Party Services

The Extension does not use any third-party services, analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking pixels.

Data Storage

The Extension does not use chrome.storage, localStorage, IndexedDB, cookies, or any other persistence mechanism. Nothing about your session is retained after the popup closes.

The only file the Extension can produce is a PNG image that you explicitly choose to download — and that file is saved by Chrome to your local Downloads folder, not transmitted anywhere.

Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the new version will be published at the same URL with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will also be reflected in the Extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
