Professional basketball LG recruits Heo Il-young
Professional basketball team Changwon LG recruited veteran shooter Heo Il-young (38).
LG announced on the 17th that it signed a free agent (FA) contract with Heo Il-young, who played for Seoul SK in the 2023-2024 season, for a two-year contract period and a first-year compensation of 250 million won (including 50 million won in incentives).
Heo Il-young made his professional debut with the Daegu Orions in 2009 and played an average of 25 minutes in 591 regular league games over 14 seasons, scoring 9.2 points and recording a 40.1% 3-point shooting percentage.
Heo Il-young, who has been wearing SK's uniform since the 2021-2022 season, played in 35 regular league games last season with consistent physical care and a sincere attitude, playing an average of 25 minutes and recording a 3-point success rate of 40.4%.
LG coach Cho Sang-hyun welcomed Heo Il-young, saying, “He is a proven player who can score a solid 3-pointer in a critical situation.”
He said, "As a senior player, I expect leadership. Heo Il-young has a lot of experience. I think the younger players, including Yu Ki-sang, will have a lot to see and learn from."
Heo Il-young expressed his thoughts, saying, "I had a recruitment offer from another club, but I chose LG after hearing about coach Jo Sang-hyun's plan for next season."
Heo Il-young added, "It was burdensome to play in Changwon as an away team player, but I feel reassured knowing that I can now play as an LG player with the support of Changwon fans."
SK announced that it had renewed a contract with Choi Bu-kyung (34), the team's free agent, for a three-year contract period and a first-year compensation of 300 million won (including 60 million won in incentives).
Choi Boo-kyung is a ‘one-club man’ who played only for SK for 11 seasons, excluding his military service period, after stepping onto the professional stage at SK in the 2012 season.
Choi Boo-kyung contributed to the team's two championship wins and two regular league wins, and also won the Rookie of the Year Award and the Lee Seong-gu Exemplary Player Award.
Choi Boo-kyung played in 523 games over 11 seasons, averaging 23 minutes and 5 seconds, recording 6.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
Choi Boo-kyung said, “SK is a team that is like home and family to me,” and added, “I will work hard during the off-season and be faithful to my role as a senior player on the team so that SK can challenge for the championship once again.”
