Rio Bond story episode 2
Momotalk
R: Sensei, I’ve run into a problem…
S: Rio!
R: I’d prefer to handle it myself, but that’s also proving troublesome
S: I’ll help in anyway you ask me to.
R: Thank you. I’ll send the package to Schale
S: Package?
Delivery guy: Here’s the last box, whole bloody lot of them.
There was even more luggage from Rio than I imagined.
DG: Heh, You opening a workshop or something? Oh, leave your stamp here!
As Rio told me, I waited until night.
R: Good evening, Sensei.
S: What’s the problem?
R: On the way, I was pondering some things.
R: I feel like I need to apologise.
S: Not sure what happened, but wow!
R: “Wow!”’s a bit of an exaggeration.
R: Also, on the way here, I hacked into nearby security cameras and traffic lights to cover my tracks.
R: Any traces of me should be hidden perfectly.
S: ….I am glad you’re growing up, even if its bit by bit.
R: what’s with that hesitant look?
R: Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for last time. I improved Avantgarde’s cooking function and upgraded the hideout’s computer.
R: I needed some tools to analyse some chemical reagents.
R: So I ordered a high performance vapor chamber and an IC suppressor
R: The ionic solution that is the subject in a recent research project is…
Rio’s difficult explanation carried on after that.
She looked like she was having fun. I could be mistaken though.
R: …and I wanted to do a large-scale parts replacement, but I can’t just have them be delivered to my hideout, could I? It would have too many risks after all.
S: So all these boxes you sent to Schale are…
R: Correct. Sorry for the trouble…
S: So you have a hideout?
R: Naturally. Several at that.
R: They’re all in the most optimal spots within the locations under my power. I’m always ready to relocate using AMAS when needed.
S: Sounds like a hassle.
R: It certainly is quite a bit of work, but it’s a logical solution for security.
R: It looks inefficient?
R: You’d be correct. Eimi mentioned that once too.
R: I’m a person who trades efficiency for logic.
R: Eimi is the opposite, sacrificing logic for efficiency.
R: I hadn’t thought of the two concepts as contradictory until now. I had always figured that they were synonymous with one another.
R: But I was wrong.
R: We can’t always be logical. The nature of most incidents are of that between people. I figured if trust was impossible, then control was needed… but that was wrong too.
R: People are irreplaceable existences.
R: If a part wears down, you can replace it. If the code is broken, just fix it.
R: Machines are easily repairable in that aspect.
R: But humans are different, unique. There is a limit to how much flesh and blood can heal itself.
R: Even if 330 billion cells are replaced every day, with all of them replaced in a month to year by new ones…
R: Some things, like our brains, remain the same as long as we live.
R: Would you happen to know of Theseus’ ship?
S: Yep/First time hearing of it.
R: Replacing broken or worn out parts whenever they appear…
R: The question is, can a ship that has undergone this process with all of its parts really be called the same ship?
R: I think this concept can also be applied to machines.
R: If a machines’ parts have all been replaced but its functionality remains the same, its the same machine.
R: But again, this can’t be applied to humans.
R: Even if in the future we could fully analyse the nervous system, brain and make artificial organs from them…
R: Well, I hardly have any wish to calculate such a thought experiment, it’s simply not possible right now.
R: A thought experiment is the natural result of analysing the relationships between necessary variables.
R: I think there are two types of thought experiments.
R: One creates extremely accurate predictions via elaborate trial and error…
R: or one that can only be experimented via imagination.
R: The replaceability of humans falls into the latter.
R: So there’s no need to consider it.
R: To summarise, you are…
R: An irreplaceable existence.
S: meaning?
R: it’s alright if you don’t understand yet.
R: But someday…
R: I want to be such an existence to you as well…
R: That’s just my personal thoughts.
R: I’ve finished checking my luggage, so I’ll be on my way.
S: How do you plan to get back?
R: I’ll just hack my way through.
R: So that I can cover my tracks.
S: Nah./I’ll escort you there.
R: but…
S: You should listen to your teachers sometimes.
R: V-very well.
I called a taxi to take Rio home.
Rio used AMAS to escort the goods home.
R: I’ll be heading off. See you soon, sensei.
S: Take care!
Momotalk
R: Sensei, using the new parts, the modified Avant-garde’s food tastes richer than before.
S: Well done Rio!
R: Yeah, thank you.
