Apply For EAD
EAD also known as employment authorization document is a document that gives work permission to people on nonimmigrant visas or those who have applied for adjustment of status.
Majority of foreign nationals are not allowed to work in the United States. If they were to apply for a job the employer will need to see their Employment Authorization Document (EAD) card before giving them a job. Employment Authorization Document (EAD) looks like a driving license or an Identity card. It is a small plastic card with electronic data embedded in it.

Only a few classes of foreign immigrants qualify to get an Employment Authorization Card (EAD). Students on F1 and J1 can get an EAD card. Countries that have a work treaty with the United States, their citizens can apply for a work permit. Spouse and dependents of employees from international organizations, employment based nonimmigrant, family based nonimmigrant, and people who have applied for adjustment of status all of these people qualify and can apply for Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
To apply for EAD you fill the form I-765. This form is available on USICS website. You can also fill the form and submit the application online electronically. You need to file supporting documents along with the application and pay the fees. In some cases like applicants under the refugee category are waived the filing fees.
There are more categories that waive the fees for EAD. This includes applicants on N-8 or N-9 visa, citizens of Micronesia, Palau, or the Marshall Islands, victims of severe trafficking and more.
It then takes 60-90 days in general to get your Employment Authorization Document in mail. The EAD usually is for one year. You need to apply for extension before your card is about to expire.
That is it. Now you know what EAD is and how to apply for it.
