RICK'S ARC

TW: Politics, suicide, death, self-harm etc.
theres also swearing i guess

Twins are born on April 21, 1974. They are the sons of Conrad B. Gunther, the dictator at the time. Their are Roth B. Gunther and Rick B. Gunther.

Rick and Roth are quite identical twins but have traits from their parents. Rick has traits from his father. Roth has traits from his mom. They grow together being relatively similar, in personality. But Rick is more curious than stoic, and Roth is vice versa.

Rick grows up to be a boy looking up to his parents, especially his father in the great position he is in. Rick wants to be like him. He is curious of what he does and has so many questions, but can't help but only ask his brother who knows as little as he does.

Their parents are a little bit absent. Maria, their mother, is a parent, and does care for them, but does not give them the attention they need constantly. She only did when they were infants. When they became a year old she had given it up.

Conrad was often out of the country or away from home. The boys often wondered what he was doing and barely knew who he was but continued to look up to him.

A few years forward, Rick and Roth are 4 years old. By now, they are at kinder. Conrad has died right when he has arrived at Nordimian land. The boys and Maria are devastated, especially Maria.

They mourn for a long while and the boys, mostly Rick, wonder about his father even more.
Rick grows to be a boy looking forward to soldiers and all the stereotypical boy-ish stuff. He wanted to be a man. A man like his father, something like that.

More years into the future. The boys are grade 2. Rick has become close friends with a boy.. Or is he a boy? Rick is confused. This boy is named Ren. Ren C. Campbell, a french immigrant boy. He had ginger hair, in a.. pretty boy-ish cut. He wore glasses, and he was a little short. Well, he looked alot smaller to Rick. But, Ren acted girly. Rick didn't ever see that before, but he's fine with it, even if it's a bit weird.

Rick and Ren go through alot together, being a nice mix of peace and calm and some fun..chaos. Rick gets into alot of trouble. He doesn't exactly mean to, but he tends to overreact to some things.

Rick has.. sharp teeth. Much sharper than 'normal' sharp teeth. Why? Well, he's kind of possesed by a demon. It doesn't really alter his brain much, but he's a bit aggresive and stronger. And, well, teeth. His parents tried to exorcise it out and it showed effects of working..But, it really didn't. And that's how he gets into all his trouble!

He gets sent to juvie at his little age of 8. Ren gets to visit him everyday, with the request of his mom and Rick's mom being with Ren. Rick just sees it as a very long time out.

When he gets out, Rick and Ren are back to their old shenanigans. Rick feels himself..gaining feelings for Ren? But he puts them aside shyly, to focus on his studies. He doesn't know when he'll confess, but he does want to.

Years later, Rick and Ren are now 13. Rick is finding himself more attracted to Ren. But he's still in denial. I mean, it has been a long time, but I guess the nile is really that long. He's still confused. Ren is a dude. A guy. A boy, and Rick.. Also a boy. Rick has observed weird random patterns in Ren's behaviour.

Sometimes.. He's..She's.. A girl? A guy? He can't exactly tell, but it's interesting. Ren doesn't really mind what Rick calls him, it seems. It intrigues Rick even more. He was only just learning about.. 'other identities', he'd never found out he'd find it in this way.

Rick struggles slightly with his studies and more so his identity. He never realized he could feel like this, be attracted to anyone so much. He had liked other people..But, they were girls, and, he lost them quickly. His parents would comment on these kinds of people negatively, for not being 'normal'. He had been taught to do the same but it feels so weird now. He could be one of those people.

He continued to focus on his studies, whilst having fun and learning more about Ren. They speak to eachother significantly alot more then when they were 8. Rick would get into trouble often, speaking about his little beliefs a bit too loud. His dreams. After all, he still wanted to be like his dad. Even if he barely knew him.

Rick gets arrested once more when he is around 15. People can't visit him much or talk to him as much as when he went to juvenile as a child, but he still cooperates. Most of the time. Sometimes, he'd make little schemes, though, but with no real malicious intent. He'll leave juvie when 'the grown ups' tells him to.

When Rick came out of prison, he had only just now realized how only Ren would visit him. And not his mother. ..He discovers his mother commited suicide. The real reason is unknown, but, for some reason, Rick doesn't feel much mourning. He really just laughs it off with Ren.
He is soon introduced to Ragman Lazarus and Flores Lazarus, a couple who was close friends with his parents.. And, well, Ragman was the president at the time.

Ragman offers to mentor Rick until he comes of age to enter the military. Rick is ecstatic, while a bit shy too. Again, he doesn't know anybody associated with his parents. These were just.. friendly strangers. He tells Ren about it, and they both agree they'd both like to give it a try.

When Rick and Ren turn 18, they both enter the military, training side by side and stuff. Rick notices Ren is.. hinting something. But it's too subtle and he can't catch it. ..Is it feelings? All he can do is shake it off shyly. Roth is also with them. As a (3 minute) older brother, He feels obliged to watch these two. Really, he's not. That's just the excuse he gave Rick. He just wants to be in the military too.

When Rick and Ren (And Roth) finish training, Rick rises through the ranks a bit quicker than the other two. But he does still insist he's just a normal guy who's a bit priveleged. He is..But there is some effort put into it. He had wanted to be here for most of his life and now he feels out of place.

Ren is there to help him, though, so it gives him more comfort. Rick is greatful for her..Wait, Her? Rick observes how Ren's gender keeps— Changing? Rick is used to it, but it still intrigues him how she just presents herself so..smoothly. In the military, I don't know how many people would actually support that kind of thing. Rick found it both beautiful and confusing.

And then one day.. March 13th, 2005
Ren comes to Rick, simply confessing 'I like you'. Such simple words and it confuses Rick. Is this true? Is it genuine? Ren is so..calm. So reserved. Rick questions Ren, and tells him he likes him too. They become queerplatonic partners, for most while. And they're happy. Rick never knew it was that easy. But it's not love yet, right?

Rick is now a general. He is insecure of himself for having.. struggles. Emotions and feelings. He tells Ren about it and feels comforted but those self loathing feelings are still there, even if pushed aside. Rick does well in his work, even if a bit clumsy and careless. Other militants admire him, more barely know him.. Some hate him.

Rick goes through much more with Ren. And with Roth too I guess. Wars they fought in, and other struggles. Rick figures that the Nordimian country will never be peaceful in the history books. He'd become so used to the violence and bloodshed he'd seen now. The injuries him and his fellow soldiers endured. And other political stuff that dragged in the military.

And somehow that made him more.. Sensitive. He doesn't exactly like it but he ignores it most of the time. For years, he is exploring how is life will come to be and.. Most importantly, himself. His Identity.

A year or more later, the election is starting. Rick decides to run in it. He has alot of work to manage with it and stuff but he just.. feels like.. 'leading a country'. Like his dad. Like his dad!
Rick isn't overwhelmed. Even if he had never planned this he is going through it smoother than he himself even expected.

In his free time, he is with Ren. And Roth. They live together, Rick and Roth have shared taxes somehow. He feels like this is his little family. Out of work. And now he realizes..How far he has come with Ren. And how damn long it took to get like this. But he's astonished, and most definitely happy.

The country of Nordimia puts trust into him, believing he will be just as good if not better than his father. He rises to the position, but— Does not follow his promise of democracy, transitioning Ragman's democratic government into a dictatorship. Making himself a dictator!
At first, things do well. Nordimia grabs a few colonies.. The economy goes up.. Alot goes UP. ..But a rising does have it's slow fall.
One of the first major parts that contributed to the fall of the government is the abolishment of the democratic parlamient which he approved, the following days, several politicians were executed under rick's regime.

the government began to gain a bad reputation among the nordimians, there were 2 major sides, the anarchists, which were anti government and the pro-dictators, which, obviously supported the government.

It had only made it worse when a province held a vote to leave nordimia, the anarchists and pro dictators sent hundreds of people to try and outbalance the vote. Unfortunately, the pro dictators managed to keep the province in, By now, rick has gained a bad reputation, of bloodshed, and using military force to crush empancipationists, not only that, he only saw the colonies as gold mines, disregarding the voting power of the people in the colonies, so in 2006, the kuristan revolts happened for two years, and was succesfully supressed by the nordimian armed forces. The legislative and senate did not like this, rick dissolved the senate after, threatening to disband the legislative if they enforce any more laws.

War would no longer be "unexpected" under Rick's regime. Ren would find this problematic but try his best to stay quiet in order to keep Rick in power with nobody questioning him. Rick would use his power to push free speech, even for the worst. He would see anything he did not believe in as merely an opinion. And, since this was seen as fit by other people in power, and the people around Rick, he saw no problem in it. He thought, aslong as he acknowledged that some "opinions" would be negative to him, nothing could affect him. Occasionally, he would argue with Ren. He would find himself guilty for making Ren feel negative in any way, but, still, he did not exactly understand what he did wrong. He thought it was a problem with the way he was, or something. Too negative, affecting Ren. Ren would try to cooperate with his ideals, see his point. Rick was raised a certain way- Be obedient, don't ask questions and since he was a little "priveleged" he did not need to seek out the minorities, or any people he hurted because it was.. unecessary.

Even when he thought it was finally okay- Ren would have a problem with the things he said. Rick didn't know what Ren saw, simply viewing it as pride. Because Rick deems himself as prideless. Unimportant, ever-changing, just for things around him to get better. Ren would obscure this path and it would get annoying. Infuriating, and it pushed Rick to his limits. It made him feel as if he had no dignity. No humanity because Ren is always right, isn't he? Rick is a rook, that's what he saw himself as. Even if he earned so much and adjusted, pushing himself to the brink of not even expressing his feelings or opinions, That was wrong. Apparently. Ren would tell him it was okay to express himself. Aslong as Rick listened to him. To change a little. Is he incapable of changing? He wants to believe he can change but he genuinely can't see anything to adjust. It's all opinions so why does he have to fucking bother? Why would he bother to say his own opinions if someone, anyone always had something to say about it. What was the point?

And Ren gave up. Understanding and positivity seem to be futile abilities in the midst of this. He'd try to hurt himself. He dare hurt himself, Rick thinks. He doesn't get the point yet- Of anything, of most things Ren stands for so much, calling him some kind of liberal warrior, mocking him- anything to stunt his ego enough to shut him up, but now he dare hurt himself? and- Because of Rick? Well great, look what you've done now. He didn't mean to. He just wants someone to shut up for once and maybe he could say what he wanted. Maybe, he could shut up too. He knows he says so many wrong things and he thought it wouldnt be a problem. If anyone got affected that was a problem of their sensitivity, right? All these arguments, banters, it had always been the fault of something he said that he thought was okay—And someone just so happen to be brave enough to tell him it wasn't. He isn't happy, at all, not even close. This is what he was taught. Can't he find the consequences himself?

Ren would tell him—No. In a world you've molded yourself to fit, how the hell will you get consequences if you are pleasing the crowd you are around? It's all for nothing. And when one crowd, or even just one person points out it's wrong, promoting prejudgement, inequality, disadvantaging another group just because you simply do not understand them. And it's odd to Ren because every group has it's bad eggs. From the government officials to the most poor. All has the people that deems themself 'superior', and those dare say any else- Inferior, wrong, blinded. Rick would tell him it's just an opinion so why does he have to believe? But- It's not an opinion. Sometimes true things are too complex. Too inclusive of other people. Rick can't see this but he wants to try so he won't find Ren one day with a slit on his wrist deeper than any feelings both of them can conjure.

He's conservative because he was molded by his father, now he realized he was moldable and he tried to mold himself to please the public because, he was well, the "president/dictator" even though he does not know the business of ruling. He was only thrown in power because he was next in line. He wanted to be liberal but he was afraid it would break his reputation. He didnt want to be conservative anymore, but he didnt want to leave it because it was integral to him as a character, him as a person—To him. Leaving it be for something he couldn't understand clearly, like liberalism and such, felt unecessary. Even dehumanizing to him.

From then on, Rick was a little quiet. Ren would get concerned often, apologizing for whatever wrongs he can think of. Rick would insist it's nothing, apologizing..for..well..the thing. Making him feel that way. They would speak more closely now. Trying to hear eachother. But it would also be awkward because.. Both of them didn't have exactly a..powerful initiative to engage in more debating, explaining, kind of conversations. They could both speak about the complicated, they were just shy to ask for it. Scared to slip up.

But they loved eachother. No matter how one called the other names. Pushed eachother. They got so far. It's a shared effort but Rick believes he is just too lucky. ..And indeed he is because he is definitely with Ren in every other universe. Learning from his mistakes, albeit doing it clumsily. Learning from Ren's mistakes, finding himself still head over heels even when he's pissed.

They're both idiots. In a way. Fate pushed this and Rick thinks it will push it for the forseeable future. They get married. Rick goes from dictator to.. conservative-ish president. He'd still push laws based on his own personal beliefs. For example, ahem Anti-Masturbation law. And Ren would assist him earnestly, eagerly and with whole sincerity no matter what he has to say. Sometimes he'd catch Rick saying a slur or two, and, "What an asshole." Ren thinks, but finds it funny anyway.

As he left dictatorship, he was, relieved yes because he thought "maybe people will like me more?" But at the same time still didnt want his reputation ruined, so he went conservative. He won the election somehow, he was pretty happy about that but at the same time didnt know how to fullfill the promises he gave during his campaign, as he transitioned into president, Rick felt a bit of hopelessness, as choosing between dictatorship and becoming a conservative president was hard, he still chose presidency, and, As a people pleaser, he was infact hopeless, heck unhappy that there was no choice that pleased the entire crowd. (there were already liberals that time, that did not like conservatism, rick won the vote by 6 percent)
Rick did his best to be inclusive, pushing laws that were conservative but still .."supporting" minority groups while giving all groups what they needed. Stress would crash down on him, but, he thought, "What job doesn't do that?"

Ren would assist him in his new term, tending to all needs and hearing what he has to say. Ren sees good improvements in him and is happy thst his overall mentality and morality is quite same, just a bit more including of Ren's own opinions and what the public might feel. Ren tells him though that he does not need to get too pressured and only give them what they really, truly necessarily need. Free speech is encouraged but Ren tells him that not all things should be completely listened. It is completely fine by him, infact, if he ignores some people, including the groups Ren himself supports— Just aslong as he distributes this 'ignorance' evenly. If one group doesn't get something, all shouldn't have it. Rick would try to get Ren to teach him about the minorities. About the people his father didn't teach him about. And, Ren would oblige, just aslong as he was completely sure Rick wanted to hear.
