Towering over many of his peers, Amalric was widely regarded as intimidating by others by way of his mere presence. Stature aside, his toned body and chiseled facial features contribute to this as well, setting him apart from both many of his contemporaries and many people in the modern world as well. In combat he manifests a set of full steel armor decorated with early Catholic imagery, mostly laden in dark gold, as well as a matching cape. His casual outfit consists of a fairly distinctive, but normal-looking leather jacket, sunglasses, shirt, and pair of jeans.
Lore:
Arnaud Amalric
The Albigensian Crusade
"Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius."
A former French abbot who was later appointed a papal legate and commander of crusader armies in the Albigensian Crusade, Amalric was mainly responsible for many of the atrocities committed during the Crusade, which itself is widely regarded as one of the earliest example of genocide in medieval history. Chief among the atrocities of the Crusade was the Massacre of Beziers, at which Amalric is credited with having coined the phrase "Kill them all and let God sort them out", though his original quote was closer to "God will know which are his own". What is less known by modern historians, however, were the true motives behind the Crusade, as well as the true nature of the Cathars themselves. While modern historians regard them as a harmless Gnostic-Christian sect, in actuality they had a much more sinister nature. A militant, anticlerical sect that violently opposed the Catholic Church, established its own caste of warrior-magi; commonly known as the Perfects (though mainstream history regards them as mere clergymen), and violently purging all they regarded to be affiliated with the Church, throwing much of southern France into borderline anarchy until the Crusade restored order in the area. However, despite the violent nature of the Cathars themselves, this still makes Amalric no less guilty than they were, having still slaughtered tens of thousands of innocent people in the cities occupied by the Cathar militants, many of the victims Catholics themselves. In fact, despite the city having been a hotbed of Cathar activity, the vast majority of the population of Beziers, at which Amalric's armies slaughtered anywhere between 7,000 to 20,000 individuals, were reportedly Catholics.
His infamous military atrocities aside, not much else is known to mainstream history about Amalric's life before his appointment as a Papal Legate and Commander. However, to those in the know about the Church's nature as a magic organization know that he was a Knight of the Church with military training and experience prior to the Crusade. Eventually, still prior to his appointment as a Legate, he was appointed captain of the Order of the Rose of Conflagration, a minor order of Church Knights of little fame other than Amalric's own deeds. He died in 1225 near the end of the Crusade, presumably of a disease contracted in the field, but in actuality he was assassinated by a Church executor after the Church deemed him to be a liability after his extensive slaughter of Catholics alongside Cathars.
Abilities
Class Abilities:
Riding: B
Rider can ride any living mount or vehicle, including those unfamiliar to him or created after his time, but he cannot ride any Phantasmal Species.
Magic Resistance: A
As a result of his training and experience accrued in combat against the Cathar Perfects, Rider is able to resist any spell of A-rank or below.
Personal Abilities:
Twisted Honor: A
Originally a composite skill representing the elite militant training, social etiquette, and noble chivalry befitting any noble knight of medieval Europe; this skill, as a result of Rider's grim deeds and character as well as his legacy, has been corrupted into something entirely alien to its original concept. Any aspect expected of an ideal knight, be it etiquette, chivalric codes, or anything of the like, has been twisted into something completely antithetical to that which is expected of any proper knight, even his fighting style has abandoned any form of knightly grace or honor to prioritize brutality and underhanded techniques.
Theurgy: C
Owing to his training as a Knight of the Church, Rider has experience in the basics of Theurgy, primarily using it to bless his weapons and enhance his offensive capabilities.
Sadistic Constitution: B
Mana Burst (Light): B
Noble Phantasm:
Righteous Proclamation of Slaughter: "Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius." (Kill them all, for the Lord knows those who are his own.)
Classification: Anti-Army
Rank:
A Noble Phantasm which is something of an anomaly among Noble Phantasms in that it is an idea, specifically a quotation, accredited to its wielder, rather than an object or technique like most. "Caedite eos. Novit enim Dominus qui sunt eius.", the command reportedly uttered by Rider at the brutal massacre of Beziers,
OOC notes
-i havent decided on his master yet, i plan to match these with non-servant OCs in the future
-i made the cathars evil mainly to fit with existing church lore as well as amalric's NP
-if i had to choose a musical theme for him i'd go with https://youtu.be/66KX69JpuP4 for his passive/non-combat theme and https://youtu.be/7ala55e6Un0 for his combat theme
