What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also known as a bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small infant crib that is attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep in a safe environment with you. This is a secure form of co-sleeping and does not increase the risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It also helps you bond with your new baby.
These cots often come with a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your infant throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly beneficial for mothers recovering from an op. Many are also portable or foldable, so you can take them on trips and use them as a sleeping solution for infants who aren't ready to transition to a larger cot.
When shopping for a crib to sleep in Choose a crib with a breathable mattress and a cover to shield your baby from stains. You may also want to buy baby-safe accessories such as the blanket or teether.
If you're looking for a more long-term alternative, some cribs are equipped with conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a cot or toddler bed at the time of need. This will extend their life and make the transition a lot easier. Some models have a removable portion at the top that can be turned into an infant bed. Some can be used in conjunction with a standard adult bed or a high-rise one. This is an excellent choice for families that are planning to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms in the evening. Take into consideration the dimensions of your room to make sure you can be able to fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an adjustable riser that can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.

It was a pleasure to not move like other models so she didn't wake up at night while trying to soothe her child to feed. She also appreciated that the side of the chair was lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to carry the child out for nighttime feedings.
The CoZee comes in oak or charcoal and is a chic accessory to any bedroom. It looks more like an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs we've tried, which appear quite utilitarian. The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is an infant bassinet designed to help parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It adjusts up and down and can be moved through three slide positions to fit next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room, so that baby is always within arm's reach. The mesh siding is breathable, allowing air to flow through and allows you to glance at your baby. You can also store any extra pajamas or items in the large storage basket beneath.
The Iora is a smaller bedside crib that folds flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. It was easy to move from room to room and our mum testers believed it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. They also liked the large storage basket perfect for storing nappies or other bedding items.
This is a great choice for parents who wish to co-sleep, but don't wish to share their bed. Or if one of the partners suffers from mobility issues, such as arthritis or back pain. Our mum testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their baby in the Iora and that it came with an optional reflux incline that helped reduce gas.
Our mums appreciate the fact that the mattress is in line with NICE guidelines which state that you should place the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets, pillows, etc). The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for the baby and sheets are readily available. It's not as light as the other cribs that are smaller however and if you're looking for something lighter and easier to move around with, think about one of the other options in our list.
