Axiom City

Background: The city of Axiom rises from the Pacific Northwest coast, a gleaming metropolis of chrome and glass built atop the ruins of old Seattle. It is a city of tiers, both literal and social.

Powers in Axiom are not gifts; they are Manifestations, sudden and often traumatic awakenings tied to intense psychological or physiological stress. They are unique as fingerprints, a reflection of the individual's deepest self, fears, and desires. The governing theory is Psyche-Physical Resonance.

City Structure

The central tension is Registration vs. Autonomy.

The Axiom Power Regulation Bureau (APRB) in the Spire demands all Manifested individuals register, and wear power-dampening monitor bracelets if not contracted. Registered citizens get Spire privileges. Unregistered are deemed "Anomalies," hunted by APRB enforcers and corporate security teams like Veridian Solutions.

The Spire (Omni-Synod Corporate Zone): The pinnacle. Artificial atmosphere, curated weather, 24-hour artificial sunlight. Access is by biometric corporate clearance only. Home to executives, elite Augmented, and the gene-pure. Architecture is sleek, minimalist, and self-cleaning.

The Canopy (Mid-Tier Residential & Commerce): The vast middle layers of the arcology. Perpetual twilight from the Spire's underside and external neon. Contains residential hab-blocks, commercial plazas, entertainment districts (sim-lounges, fight clubs, sensory baths), and public transit hubs. The air is recycled and tastes faintly of ozone.

The Undercroft (The Low-Sprawl): The foundational layers, built on the ruins of the old city. A maze of leaking infrastructure, makeshift dwellings (containers, repurposed machinery), black markets, and unlicensed augmentation clinics ("Chop-Shops"). The environment is toxic; residents require filter masks or baseline cybernetic lung upgrades. Governed by shifting gang territories and independent contractors. The Grid is where the black market for Neuralin thrives—an illicit drug that can temporarily enhance, stabilize, or suppress a Manifestation, with horrific side effects. It's also where Tinkerers modify tech to counter specific powers.

The Glow: A semi-mythical, irradiated zone deep in the bedrock beneath the Undercroft, where the city's waste and experimental chemicals have pooled. Said to be the origin point of the most volatile and strange Glitches. The Glow is where Manifestations twisted by radiation, chemical runoff, or pure despair become something else entirely—Blighted. These are less human, more environmental hazard, and are considered by the Spire to be a cleanup problem. Heavily patrolled by Synod Hazard Containment, but scavengers still venture in.

Factions & Groups

Omni-Synod Enforcement: "Sanctioners." Heavily augmented corporate police. Their goal is containment: either recruit useful Glitches, or scrub unstable ones.

The Circuit: A loose network of data-weavers, info-brokers, and tech-smugglers operating in the Canopy. They traffic in black-market blueprints, Synod secrets, and unregistered neural laces.

The Revenants: A gang dominating several Undercroft sectors. They deliberately mutate themselves with toxins from The Glow, seeking powerful Glitches. Their bodies are grotesquely altered, and they believe the Glow is a path to a new form of evolution.

Technology & Culture

Currency: "Cred" (digital, traceable) for official transactions. "Scrip" (physical, polymer chips) or barter (data, chemicals, clean water) in the Undercroft.

Fashion: In the Spire, monochromatic smart-fabrics that change pattern. In the Canopy, layered synth-leather, illuminated accessories, and exposed cybernetics as decoration. In the Undercroft, patched enviro-suits, heavy cloaks, and functional armor.

Entertainment: Sim-Lounges (full-immersion VR experiences, often illicit), Orbital Fight Clubs (augmented vs. augmented, or augmented vs. Gladiator-drones), "Echo-Parlors" where one can experience the filtered, safe emotions of others.

Architecture: Everything is vertical. Personal transport includes magnetized grapple-lines, cybermagnetic railways, and for those who can afford it, personal anti-grav platforms. Public elevators are massive, slow, and often carry expensive tolls.

Power Sources & Origins

Corporate-Grade Augmentation (Omni-Synod Approved): Clean, stable, and expensive. Requires a service contract. Includes: enhanced reflexes, internal comms, weaponized limb replacements, tactical HUDs, subdermal armor. Failure to pay can lead to remote deactivation or repossession.

Glitches (Chaotic): Unpredictable manifestations. Arise from:

Genetic Rejection: A body violently rejecting corporate cybernetics or gene-therapy, mutating the intended effect.

Environmental Exposure: Prolonged exposure to the unique pollutants, radiation, or data-saturation of the Undercroft triggering latent genetic expression.

Black-Market "Jury-Rigging": Attempts to install stolen or homemade augmentation tech without proper medical oversight, leading to bizarre symbiotic relationships between flesh and machine.

Psychic Resonance: In some cases, a traumatic event can "imprint" a power onto a person's psyche.
