Hello,I am Emi, a cis—girl who has been professionally diagnosed with utism.I have been (semi) mute my entire life, even my relatives and own mother didn't understand it.it's not that i don't want to talk but that i simply can't

The best way i can explain my mutism is that is is very similar or identical to selective mutism, my mutism is linked to my anxiety disorder and causes me to be unable to speak in certain situations or environments,my mutism is mainly around men, teenagers, and extended family.I have alot of trauma around these type of people and have ended up developing selective mutism.

However, this is not to be confused with my autism.although autistic people do tend to go nonverbal at times,my mutism is very different from this.my mutism has a pattern and i can tell the difference between the two.when im nonverbal i don't want to talk but still can if i try hard enough, this tends to happen when i am tired or upset. My mutism however makes it so i can't talk no matter how much i want to,and is very frustrating.

Mutism is not being "shy" or "cute" its something that's ruined my life.I hate when it is romanticised or watered down to being a "cute shy girl",If i had the option to get rid of my mutism? Id do it without a second thought

My mutism isn't to be confused with going nonverbal! For example: " I strictly only go mute in anxiety inducing situations, this tend to have a very strict patternMute and nonverbal are completely different

I hope this helped you understand my condition more! Feel free to ask questions on my ata
