Feel free to roast me in the thread and I'll update my expert opinion.

Supercarrier, by Eagle Dynamics.

  • Absolute waste of money imo. Comes with a bunch of stuff they promised us for free. Proof that ED is willing to make every piece of their game a sellable asset to suck moneys right out of boomers wallets. The deck crew models are very cool. But not worth the money
Release date. Early access.

JF-17 Thunder by Deka Ironworks Simulations

  • I do not own it, but it's not a bad plane and it's very capable in combat. I would say this is a good buy on sale, or when it's complete. Some anons used it to body sim boomers on the taxiway with TV guided bombs which makes this plane cool and based. Worth it imo.
Release date. Early access.
April 12, 2019 Yes

MiG-29 by Eagle Dynamics

  • not a clicky flicky plane but based and mig pilled. I love this plane, it has a PFM and it's really fun to fly. Worth it imo.

February 10, 2018 No
  • F-14 Tomcat, Heatblur Simulations, 13/3/2019, Yes
    • Really good plane and decent dev. Jester sucks, though so prepare yourself. The only plane that has working multicrew as of Jan 2021. Worth it imo.
  • Yak-52, Eagle Dynamics, 3/8/2018, Yes
    • not a bad plane but it has no real use besides being a aerobatic plane. It's multi crew and as of Jan, 2021 the prop desyncs between people when you multicrew. So it doesn't work.
  • F/A-18C Hornet, Eagle Dynamics, 1/6/2018, Yes
  • AV-8B Night Attack V/STOL, RAZBAM, 22/12/2017, Yes
    • trash dev. Cool plane. Utter disappointment.
  • AJS-37 Viggen, Heatblur Simulations, 2/11/2017, Yes
    • This is one of few planes that has soul, and somewhat works completely. Very fun, very capable. I would actually really recommend this plane as it's all around a good buy. One of the few plane in DCS I have that I do not regret buying. Worth it imo.
  • Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Eagle Dynamics, 06/07/2018, No
    • DCS WW2 IS RETARDED STOP BUYING THIS SHIT
  • F-5E Tiger II, Belsimtek, 11/11/2016, No
    • Another plane I own, that I do not regret buying. It just works .t Todd Howard. It looks good and has soul. Flys like a dream. Worth it imo.
  • M-2000C RAZBAM, 20/4/2017, No
    • trash dev. I own this plane. It is arguably the only plane they made that could be considered decent by razbam standards.
  • L-39 Albatros, Eagle Dynamics, 19/2/2016, No
    • Trainer meme
    • But it is a really well done plane and it is fun. I own this and would say it would be a good buy if you get it on sale. Be warned tho that multi crew doesn't work.
  • MiG-15bis, Belsimtek, 11/3/2016, No
    • Somewhat decent plane. Looks good and flys well. Good plane for Korean war era air combat. Good one to get on sale. They have korean war server where you can dogfight f-86 and they're somewhat populated.
  • C-101 Aviojet, AvioDev, 15/1/2015, No
    • Trainer meme
    • AvioDev is one of the worst Devs and they make shit planes. They somehow are making another plane for DCS.
  • Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst, Eagle Dynamics, 19/8/2016, No
    • DCS WW2 IS RETARDED STOP BUYING THIS SHIT
  • MiG-21bis, Magnitude 3, LLC 2/10/2014, No
    • This one is really well done, and it flys well. Problem is it has a lot of problems that hardly ever get fixed in a timely fashion unfortunately. These problems can range from huge fps drops when using the radar, to the radar beam being upside down because of a bug. Get this one on sale tbh.
  • Fw 190 D-9 Dora, Eagle Dynamics, 11/11/2014, No
    • DCS WW2 IS RETARDED STOP BUYING THIS SHIT
  • F-86F Sabre, Belsimtek, 1/04/2016, No
    • Not a bad plane. I've heard it flys great. It is a great plane if you like Korea era air combat. I would get this on sale. They have Korean war server where you can dogfight MiG-15bis and they're somewhat populated.
  • Su-33, Eagle Dynamics, 22/9/2017, No
    • Fun Fc3 plane that is carrier capable.
  • Su-27, Eagle Dynamics. 31/8/2017, No
    • Fc3 plane, very maneuverable. HMDS and lots of maneuverability. Very good for killing natoboos. Worth it imo.
  • F-15C, Eagle Dynamics, 31/08/2017 No
    • Gods plane. 104-0, and flew home with one wing in one. The ultimate chad plane. The greatest fighter plane ever developed. Worth it imo.

    • A10 lite. Not a bad thing to fly for fun. fc3 A10 no flicky. Worth it imo.
  • Flaming Cliffs 3, Eagle Dynamics, 8/11/2012, No
    • Don't buy the fc3 planes mentioned above by themselves, buy this and get them all. Worth it imo.
  • P-51D Mustang, Eagle Dynamics, 29/4/2012, No
    • Not a bad plane despite being WW2. One of the first couple planes they had developed. But also >DCS WW2 IS RETARDED STOP BUYING THIS SHIT
  • A-10C Warthog, Eagle Dynamics, 4/10/2010, No
    • FEAR THE HAWG
    • A chad plane no doubt. Well done, worth the money considering the amerimutt chairforce uses it to train airmen. Worth it imo.

An appendix on Flaming Cliffs 3
  • What the fuck is Flaming Cliffs?
The flaming cliffs series was basically ED's take on simulation before DCS: Black Shark came along with it's standards. Nowadays, it is generally considered a more 'softcore' simulation approach to the aircraft provided.
  • What can I fly if I get Flaming Cliffs 3?
As of 2020 all planes are using a PFM flight models. PFM stands for professional flight model.

    • SU-25A (PFM)
    • A-10A (PFM)
    • SU-27S (PFM)
    • SU-33 (PFM)
    • F-15C (PFM)
    • Mig-29A, S and G (PFM).
  • How complex are the systems?
Cockpits aren't clickable, startup procedures aren't modelled (press x to start up), everything else is what you'd expect from something not-DCS level I suppose.
  • Should I get it?
The general consensus is that while Flaming Cliffs does not come near DCS in simulation depth, it's still close enough to provide a fairly enjoyable simulation. Plus, aircraft from the module are used in a lot of the flown missions, so it's really advisable to buy it if you want to participate.

IL-2

Which one should I get/fly?

"Depends entirely on what you want.

If you want stupid amounts of content, forgiving if not completely made up flight models, get 1946 and the CUP mod. DO NOT fucking play vanilla, there is no reason whatsoever for doing that, unless you have HDD space problems.

If you want to play a semi decent, kind of realistic Battle of Britain sim, get Cliffs of Dover with the Team Fusion mod. Again, do not fucking play vanilla.

If you want a modern version of IL2, that runs good. This is what you want to buy. This is the latest edition of IL2. I would recommend this over the old versions of the game, if you're brand new to IL2. Then if you like the series, you can make the switch over to older game versions of IL2.

Anon's elaboration on the availble modpacks for IL-2 1946

Let me elaborate on the Il-2 1946 ops deal a bit

  • Mods
Vanilla: it's fucking vanilla. It doesn't require any fiddling. As far as I know it doesn't support headtracking. Cockpits and graphics in general are fucking HORRENDOUS. Why would anyone play it over HSFX is beyond me. It has silly potential without any mods either way, thanks to the TB-3 that can carry parasite I-16s, the Mistel, the fucking Heinkel Lerche.

HSFX: it was specifically made for playing online, kind of a way of having a standardized mod pack, or something like that (and that concept has been around the IL-2 '46 community for a long while). Easy to install, has headtracking support, it has way better FMs and damage models than vanilla, it looks good, it has plenty of maps and a fair amount of content in general, including dynamic campaigns. However it isn't updated for the latest version of IL-2 and I doubt it will get another update. Adds things like the Ohka and Silverplate B-29 as well.

CUP: METRIC SHITTONS of content. Everything that applies to HSFX also applies to it, at least for the most played planes. It is meant to be used with the latest version of IL-2 1946. Also includes radar in a few planes, like the Bf-110G4 or the Uhu and even some variants of the Me-262, some allied aircraft, or its dubious quality modern planes. Downloading and installing the shit is "harder than evoking Satan by performing Noh dance" (actually it's easier than it seems but it's still kind of tedious, and its filesize is retarded).

I won't go in detail about game modes, but
Fictional scenarios coop is perfect for fucking around and teaching nuggets how to fly/land. Loadsafun potential.
Air racing is much less forgiving, but it's feasible even with a few players. And it's hilarious.
Historical/semihistorical coop requires gud people.
Coordinated PvP requires at least 3 people per side, otherwise it basically dwindles down to airquake faggotry.

IL2: GB reviews
  • Quick rundown on the series IL-2 Sturmovik
The First three editions, Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Moscow and, Battle of Kuban of IL-2 Sturmovik and are set in the eastern front during WW2. The next two, Battle of Bodenplatte and Battle of Normandy are in the western front. Tank Crew is a tank sim built into the IL2 engine. The same goes for Flying Circus, which is a WW1 Air combat addition. All of these games use a common client and authorization system, which allows you to use them separately or as a combined game. You can even buy collector planes separately. As far as the maps go, you can play on any map available in the game on multiplayer servers. Unlike DCS you do not have to pay for maps. However if you do not own any of the planes available in that mission you will be unable to fly or you will have a very small selection of planes to pick from. A majority of multiplayer server are set up with period correct planes and depending on the mission you will be only able to select planes that were available at that front and time period.
  • my overall review
First off I would recommend this game to anyone who likes combat flight sims. I would argue this game is better than DCS, but that is subjective and not the point of this information. However this game is very impressive on many different levels. To start of this game looks amazing, it has impressive graphics and amazing damage physics. The game has active multiplayer servers, a plethora of single player content, with a dynamic campaign. To top things off the game runs very well, even with VR. The graphics detail you get with this game and the performance is something that always will impress me. Not to mention over the past couple years they've expanded into stuff like tanks and WW1 air combat. The only thing that is a con, if you even consider it one, is that they are not full fidelity planes. you have some basic controls over things like radiators and engine settings. But if you're looking for something where you can flick switches then this sim ain't it. What it lacks in switch flicking, it makes up for in content and playability.
  • Below I will post the different editions and my thoughts on them. As well as the planes available in each edition.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad

Not my first pick if you're looking to get into IL2. But the edition itself isn't bad at all. A good buy on sale. Multiplayer servers still run eastern front maps, and you get a bunch of iconic planes. Stalingrad map is very cool to fly over. I would just argue the other editions are more exciting visually and in terms of the capability of the aircraft.

This addon covers the battle of Stalingrad.

  • Russian planes in this edition
    • LaGG-3 series 29
    • Yak-1 Series 69
    • IL-2AM-38 (model 1942)
    • Pe-2 series 87
  • German planes in this edition

    • Ju 87 D-3
    • He 111 h-6

Premium Edition includes two (2) Collector planes: La-5 Series 8 and Fw-190 A-3
I WOULD BUY THE PREMIUM EDITIONS DURING SALES AS THE COLLECTOR PLANES ARE WORTH IT.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Moscow

Moscow is kinda weird, you cant fly over Moscow. The map is set on the outskirts. The planes are awesome and worth it imo. I would buy kuban over this but it's a really good edition to IL2. Would buy on sale if you can. A good version to get if you want to get into IL2 and you want to fly eastern front.

  • Russian planes in this edition
    • I-16 Type 24
    • MiG-3 Series 24
    • Pe-2 Series 35
    • IL-2 AM-38(model 1941)
  • German planes in this edition

    • Bf 110 E-2
    • Ju 88 A-4

Premium Edition includes two (2) Collector planes: P-40E-1 and MC.202 Series VIII
I WOULD BUY THE PREMIUM EDITIONS DURING SALES AS THE COLLECTOR PLANES ARE WORTH IT.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Kuban

One of the best editions imo. The map is amazing, absolutely beautiful. Servers hardly run it but when they do it's something special. The planes are awesome. Overall a great one to get. I would argue this is the best of the eastern front editions of the game.

  • Russian and Western planes in this edition
    • Yak-7b Series 36
    • P-39L-1
    • IL-2 AM-38F (model 1943)
    • A-20B

    • Bf 110 G-2
    • He 111 H-16

Premium Edition includes two (2) Collector planes: Spitfire Mk.VВ and Hs 129 B-2
I WOULD BUY THE PREMIUM EDITIONS DURING SALES AS THE COLLECTOR PLANES ARE WORTH IT.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Bodenplatte

I love this edition, the first to bring IL2 into the western front. The map looks great, the planes are awesome. I would buy this if you want to get into IL2 and eastern front doesn't interest you.

  • Western planes in this edition
    • P-51D
    • P-47D
    • Spitfire Mk IX
    • Tempest Mk V
  • German planes in this edition
    • Bf 109 G-14
    • Bf 109 K-4
    • Fw 190 A-8
    • Me 262

Premium Edition includes two (2) Collector Planes (P-38J and Fw 190 D-9)
I WOULD BUY THE PREMIUM EDITIONS DURING SALES AS THE COLLECTOR PLANES ARE WORTH IT.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy

I have not bought this edition yet, cannot give you an honest opinion. However judging by the plane list it should be very good. A nice edition to the roster of western planes we have currently.

  • Western planes in this edition
    • P-51B/C
    • P-47D “Razorback”
    • Typhoon Mk.Ib,
    • Mosquito F.B. Mk.VI
  • German planes in this edition
    • Bf 109 G-6 “Late”
    • Fw 190 A-6
    • Ju 88 C-6a
    • Me 410
Premium Edition includes two (2) Collector Planes (Spitfire Mk.XIV and Ar 234)
I WOULD BUY THE PREMIUM EDITIONS DURING SALES AS THE COLLECTOR PLANES ARE WORTH IT.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Flying Circus

I do not own this game, but if it's anything like its predecessor rise of flight then it's worth the money. If you like WW1 air combat then this is the game for you. From what I've been told the sim boomers who would play these games online all moved over to this once it came out from rise of flight. So you can do multiplayer dogfighting if you want or just vibe by yourself in single player. Very comfy flying old WW1 planes. This is a good one to get on sale if you can.

  • Aircraft of the era
    • Spad 7.C1,
    • Airco DH.4,
    • Sopwith Triplane,
    • Nieuport 28.C1,
    • Breguet 14.B2,
    • Handley Page 0-400
    • DFW C.V.,
    • Fokker D.VIII
    • Gotha G.V.
    • Pfalz D.XII

IL-2 Sturmovik: Tank Crew

I do not own this edition of the game, I've heard nothing but good things. If you want to do WW2 tank combat this is a good one to purchase. Not to mention some servers allow tanks to be used on frontlines. So you can drive around in your tank while your friend provides air support. A good one to get on sale.

  • tanks
    • T-34-76

Things useful for Microsoft Flight Simulator X

What is FSX and what should you expect

Microsoft Flight Simulator X is a flight simulator released back in late 2006 by ACES Game Studio, with an expansion, Acceleration, released in 2007. Since then, Microsoft closed down ACES Game Studio and tried developing another flight sim, "Microsoft Flight", which was a complete failure for a variety of reasons, Dovetail studios acquired distribution privileges for FSX, publishing it on Steam as "Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition", and Lockheed Martin acquired development privileges for FSX, further developing the original's game code under the name "Prepar3d". This section of the pastebin will only focus on normal FSX and FSX: Steam Edition.

Vanilla FSX consists of the original 2006 FSX plus the Acceleration expansion. Applying the original patches in this is not required as the Acceleration expansion includes SP1 and SP2. If you intend not getting the expansion, patching it is required if you want to not run into any troubles with any addons. Being a 2006 release, FSX is not optimized in the slightest for modern systems. Your setup may not struggle with the base game, but when you start adding major addon planes and sceneries, you will definitely notice a major drop in performance.

FSX: Steam Edition consists of the original 2006 FSX plus the Acceleration expansion, a bunch of tweaks applied for better performance on modern systems and Steamworks instead of the now defunct Gamespy for multiplayer services. Keep in mind however that while those tweaks may help performance, the source code of the game remains the same old unoptimized FSX engine in the original 2006 release.

  • Disclaimer: Where you get your addons doesn't really matter. Pirate them or buy them legit, we don't care.

The following addon companies are known to produce high fidelity renditions of the aircraft modeled. If you want the most convincing experience of flying X or Y aircraft, these devs are the way to go most of the time.
