skill assesment.

tadahiro sighed as he took off his shoes, placing them in the bottom locker and putting on his indoor shoes. he picked up his bag, letting it hit his legs, and trudged to his class, putting in his headphones as he walked. it was yet another pointless day of pointless classes, and he wished nothing more than to just.. work. his side job was more entertaining than whatever this school was, but he needed to stay.

he had barely walked two feet before a hand grabbed his shoulder, and he ripped out his earbud in order to avoid the wrath of whichever special student decided to bother him this time. tidy green hair, amethyst eyes and a sunny smile were definitely not what he expected, but the reimei uniform dashed his hopes of being treated more than a dog by this mysterious visitor.

he bowed, clicking off his music as he stuffed his phone back in his bag. looking back up, he noticed there were in fact two of them. the other stood a bit further behind, an exhausted expression on his face as citrine irises met his. messy blue hair framed his face, and tadahiro wondered how he didn't notice him sooner.

"m-my apologies, is there anything i could help you two with?" he asked, moving his bag onto his shoulder. there was no chance he'd be able to open it again if these two had chosen him to guide him around the school.

"well, we were wondering if you knew where the viper and nagisa-kun's room was. those two gave us these useless tablets, and then left us to die!" the green-haired one exclaimed, waving around one of the special student tablets. tadahiro eyed it carefully in case the other were to drop it, yet something at the back of his mind ate him up. envy, perhaps.

the blue haired one looked up, snatching the tablet away with a bored expression. it seemed he was used to the other's antics.

"i'm sazanami jun, this one is tomoe hiyori." he put the tablets in his own bag, and tadahiro's eyes widened as he looked at them both again.

"your family is the tomoe foundation, c-correct..?" he asked, ignoring hiyori's whine of how he wanted to keep his identity under wraps and that 'jun-kun' had ruined it all. he adjusted his feet, bowing again.

"my apologies if i treated you overly casually a moment ago. m-may i ask who 'viper' and 'nagisa-kun' are..?" tadahiro internally cursed his stutter, but looked at them inquisitively all the same.

hiyori made an exaggerated noise of annoyance, and jun stepped in front of him.

"my apologies for how ohii-san is acting, too.. 'viper' is saegusa ibara, and 'nagisa-kun' is ran nagisa." he sighed. tadahiro, on the other hand, froze.

saegusa ibara. the name resounded in his thoughts for a second before he shook his head.

"my apologies. i can't show you much of the area they resides in; non-specials are forbidden unless given explicit written permission as far as i remember." he bowed again, trying to show his regret. however, hiyori just laughed, and handed him a note.

it was a permission slip. he sighed, bowing again as he took it.

"then i suppose we can start this." he pocketed the slip, and began to tour hiyori and jun around shuuetsu. he showed them the bare minimum of his own facilities, instead choosing things close to adam's office so he wouldn't have too much of his time taken up, plus it was preserving shuuetsu's reputation.

they approached the doors to the office, and tadahiro bowed, shifting his bag from his shoulder to back in their hands.

"t-this is as far as i can take you both. i believe saegusa-sama does not like people entering without knocking, so please do knock. i will be leaving now, s-so any other questions go to saegusa-sama directly." he remained bowing, waiting for their approval of his statement.

hiyori let out yet another sarcastic laugh, then slung his arm around tadahiro's shoulder. it was uncomfortably close, but tadahiro was used to this sort of thing. the tablet was dangled in front of his face as hiyori spoke.

"well, as his unit co-member, i permit you to come inside! there's no reason i shouldn't extend such hospitality to you, is there?" tadahiro froze up ,then shook his head insistently.

"genuinely, i can't go in. please have a good talk with saegusa-sama." he tried to move away, to go back to his class, yet hiyori's grip was like iron. anxiety began to plague his thoughts; the only time he had interacted with ibara hadn't gone .. according to plan.

"nonsense! come on~!" and then hiyori opened the doors and tadahiro couldn't help but shrink back.

ibara and nagisa sat facing the door, and therefore ibara's stare burnt through him. he moved back again, picking up his bag, but hiyori grabbed his hand and dragged him in. the doors slammed shut, and he heard jun sigh from behind him.

still within typical hiyori behaviour then, if he had anything to chart it by.

ibara stood up, and saluted to the three of them, his voice echoing in the empty practice room.

"salute! welcome to shuuetsu academy, your highness, jun-shi. may i ask what a .. non-special student is doing here?" tadahiro's mere mention was filled with disdain, and he ended up effectively hiding behind jun.

hiyori, on the other hand, stepped forward, and he smiled.

"well, thanks to your poor instructions we had to ask him for help!" he put a hand to his hip, sighing.

tadahiro watched in awe as hiyori went and complained about every little thing that he deemed ibara had done wrong. then he made a mental note never to infuriate hiyori.

jun turned to him, a hand over his mouth to cover the goofy smile he held.

"he does this every time we meet," he grinned. "i'm sure you'll be fine, by the way. ibara gives up with ohii-san eventually."

tadahiro watched on awkwardly, finding the bickering funny as he began to relax slightly. he found himself getting a little closer to jun, and they even exchanged those casual glances when something was particularly funny.

eventually, as predicted, ibara gave up on fighting hiyori. tadahiro honestly found his ability to argue impressive. ibara pinched the bridge of his nose, and he sighed.

"fine, he can stay. for today." he gestured to the couches in the corner of adam's common room, and they all sat down.

tadahiro had squeezed himself into the corner of the couch next to hiyori in an attempt to keep himself as small and unnoticable as possible. however, that seemed to be a little bit of a mistake as hiyori had his arms on his and jun's shoulders. that's without noting the fact that ibara sat directly in front of him. he looked down, anxiously twiddling his thumbs.

"well," ibara begun, sighing. "i can't discuss most of the things i planned to today because of you, your highness. this kid isn't a member of eden, and what we discuss is confidential."

tadahiro wasn't exactly sure what to do with that. god, now he just felt like a burden.

which was probably the intention, if he knew ibara well enough.

"why not just make him a member of eden then? he's cute enough to be gap moe, or something." hiyori shrugged, picking at his nails. jun sat up in his chair, and ibara leaned back, crossing his legs with a look of indignance given to hiyori. nagisa, who had remained unnoticable the whole time, had very little input, simply an eyebrow raise.

tadahiro, however, was internally panicking. he couldn't be a member of eden, could he? he'd never tried professional idol stuff, and yeah, he could dance and sing well, but be part of eden? never, never could he pull that off.

ibara shook his head, leaning forward in his chair again.

"this kid, part of eden? you must be joking, your highness. we haven't even assessed his skills, and i'm sure they're piss-poor if he's a non-special student." his voice was like a hiss.

that must be why he was nicknamed the viper, tadahiro thought as he continued to hear ibara hiss nothing but dehumanising words. he sighed, but then flinched as he felt hiyori's arm wrap around him.

"well," hiyori began, his voice suddenly really loud (or maybe that was just his and tadahiro's proximity), "i think he would be great for eden! look at him, he's just what we needed! he- what's your name, boy?" hiyori stopped for a second, raising an eyebrow.

"tadahiro.."

"tadahiro, right. tadahiro should get the opportunity to practice, right?" he hugged tadahiro closer, almost in a motherly way?

tadahiro wasn't sure if it was motherly, but he never had a good perception on parental affection anyway. his mum never hugged him like tha- okay, rein in his thoughts here.

tadahiro continued to look down, and now he could feel two gazes burning through him. presumably nagisa and ibara's.

he hid his face in his hands slightly. pathetic, he knew, but what else could he do? it was getting more and more embarrassing to listen to hiyori sing his praises when they barely knew eachother.

he heard ibara sigh, and then hiyori finally let go of him, going back to the freedom of the cramped couch corner.

"we can trial him at some point, for idol work. he can be our assistant for now, if you insist so badly."

tadahiro froze. it seemed eden never failed to get that sort of reaction out of him, in all fairness.

he looked up slowly from his hands, seeing nagisa still silently watching him. ibara had his faze focused on hiyori (thank god, considering he didn't think he could handle any more pressure), and jun was giggling under his breath quietly. tadahiro hoped it wasnt about him.

hiyori grinned, and ruffled tadahiro's hair. he had no idea why, but he wanted to. and tadahiro's expression was priceless, for he froze again, eyes wide and uncomprehensive of what had happened. it was cute.

ibara sat down on the couch again, sighing as he began to swipe on his tablet.

yamaguchi, tadahiro.
