FAQ

@SPROUTwiki's Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. What program / brushes do you use?

I use CSP (Clip Studio Paint) on my IPAD and Cintiq. I use a lot of custom downloadable brushes, but one of my most used lineart brushes is called "Dry Salmon" ( Content ID: 1863327 ) by Crystalrina.

  1. You make a lot of Disabled Original Characters, are you also disabled?

I am disabled, both physically and mentally. I am a full-time wheelchair user currently waiting for a new powerchair due to severe complex disability. I am also Autistic, which affects my processing and cognative and social functions as well.

  1. How do you find resources on different disabilities and mobility aids?

I use academic, medical and personal research on credited and approved sites. I use the google search engine. Some examples of sites is: JSTOR, PubMed, GoogleScholar, Science.gov, and others. I can't tell anyone how to research, as that is something unique to the person and you have to figure that out on your own.

  1. Can I draw fanart of your original characters?

YES! I am 100% okay with fanart of my original characters, and often put credited work into their personal toyhouse profiles. I do have a few simple boundaries and rules, though.

BOUNDARIES:

  • No NSFW
  • No Self-Shipping
  • No white-washing
  • No removing disability
  • No kinning my ocs

Thank you for understanding! I truly am so grateful for any and all fanart I ever get!

  1. How do you come up with outfits and styles for your original characters?

Pinterest, Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, and more. I am very into researching a lot of different fashion styles and their subcultures. I tend to do a lot of personal research for every original character, and it can take anywhere from a few hours to weeks or months.

a lot of my popular characters take inspiration from styles such as: Gyaru (Amekaji, Manba, Rokku, etc), V-kei, Mori-kei, Y2K, shoujo, Goth, Emo, Scene, contemporary steampunk, and more.

  1. How do you come up with names for you original characters?

First, I always research the culture they are from, as well as their ethnicity and subgroups. I tend to look into both the Popularity, Meaning, and Cultural Signifigance. I tend to match names up with my characters based on both their personalities and cultures, but also why they might have the name (Example: Did their mother/father give them the name? Did they name themself?).

  1. Can I submit / Request a disability for your next OC?

Technically, Yes, you can send me a message about a specific disability you'd like to see representated, but there are no promises that it will be done, since the majority of my original characters are made for me.

Before asking, please look through ALL of my characters to see if the disability has already been represented. I often get asked about certain disabilities that I have already made a character with. This doesn't mean I'll only draw a disability once, but I tend to lean towards disabilities that I can relate to in terms of severity, experience, and visually. Also, Please do not de-rail other characters posts with a completely unrelated disability.

  1. Why do you not have any white original characters?

This is because I draw characters I relate to, first and foremost. My experiences with both my race and ethnicity influence a lot of my artwork. I don't make original characters just because someone asks for it, or because they aren't white, I make most of my original characters with small parts of myself shown through them.

. . . and white people are really hard to draw for me.

  1. Where can I find all your Original Characters and their Backstories?

TOYHOUSE PROFILES !

  1. Do you plan on becoming a professional Character Designer, Comic Artist, Illustrator, etc for Videogames, TV, or Comics?

Sadly, as much as I would love to have my art contribute to something so grand and big, With my severe disability I need a lot of accomodations that most companies cannot give. I dropped out of school and I cannot work a job due to being bed-bound and house-bound. It was my dream growing up to be able to do something like that, and maybe eventually one day something can work out, but as of right now I don't have any specific plans.
