Social Notes

Necessary notes to keep track of society around me. People are complex beings, much more than spells, in my opinion. Maybe writing this down will help me interact with them.

Staff

Dankinius Manastone

Headmaster Manastone

The headmaster of this institution, the phrase "all over the place" fits him in many different ways. I had the dubious honor of being taught by him on a couple of occasions, and his skills are certainly real; his methods seem unconventional, but the results speak for themselves. I am not sure what problems everyone has with him, but I think he is quite reasonable. His schedule could be a bit more organized, but I can't blame him for that; he clearly has some very important reasons to be like this.

Snake info

Most of the info the snakes gave me comes from some other source; observing the headmaster directly seems incredibly difficult even for the network. There is not much to say; the rumors and reality match up perfectly in this case. His motives may be unknown, but his behavior is hard to miss. He is reported to speak in very strange terms; for some reason they give me a really bad feeling even if I don't know what the words mean.

Henry Travers

Professor Travers

The strict teacher of D.A.D.A. and a military veteran. I am not really sure what he did to deserve such respect; I don't think we got to his part of history in class yet even if it should not be too long. His teaching methods are strict but fair. I don't have any problems with it, but he doesn't get mad with the less talented students either. He is also the supervisor of the dueling club, which he manages in a very similar way. I assume that's how Aurors are trained. Despite the attempts at recruiting me, I am not interested in being part of that. Being strong is important to defend myself and ensure my projects succeed, but wasting time on discipline will only hinder my goals.

Snake info

The snakes say that a certain Griffindor smells the same as the professor; this may mean they are related. There is a limit to the info the snakes can bring me; they can't read after all, so I can't send them to read documents, but as far as I know there are no known relatives of the professor attending Hogwarts. It makes me wonder if they are even aware of each other; it could be just a coincidence, a whim of fate, but I find that hard to believe. I should place the student under special surveillance; doing so to the professor may prove dangerous; veterans are not to be underestimated. "Fear the old in a profession where most die young," or so the saying goes.

Studios Gaunt

Studios

My cousin, teaches Herbology. I was not aware he had a teaching position at Hogwarts of all places; it feels almost like they kept it from me on purpose. Studios was always kind to me; he didn't look at me in the same way most of the family does, but sometimes he also looked really sad without apparent reason. Now I may know why. He was always different from the rest of the family. I wonder how many know, probably not my parents; they wouldn't have allowed him to visit otherwise. Despite how stressed he always seems, he really does care about his plants. I remember visiting his garden a long time ago. His lessons are also easy to understand and have become increasingly important to my research lately. He has my support, but I am still just a student.

Snake info

The network is the reason I managed to discover his secret, he has no magic, mother and father would call him a squib. He hides this via a clever use of what he does have, a lot of money and magical artifacts. Coronella is also with him, I don't think I ever saw her alive, she was already dead before I was born probably, she helps with the rings. I must ensure this doesn't get out, even if I'm not sure how yet, for now I just obliviated the affected snakes, I felt bad but it was better than risking them being tortured or tricked. Maybe I was too paranoid. It was a very strange conversation to have but it's easier to help if he knows I am aware.

Chantelle Shafiq

Professor Shafiq

Transmutation professor, lacking in background compared to the other teachers and with a mentality seeming very counterproductive to teaching. Her classes are a riddle in a more literal way than most, not particularly difficult from the few times I bothered to pay attention to them but not really conductive to teaching, not Transmutation at least. Regardless of her tendency to develop our creative thinking her lessons are at least effective for those that keep up, her knowledge is the real deal, it's a shame a large percentage of the calss can't see that. I am not particularly interested in the subject, but it's not a good reason to neglect it completely, it may be useful some day, so I at least take notes. I have a feeling the teacher may resent me for not answering her riddles out loud even when I solve them. She appears to be an Animagus as well, a lion of some kind, unusual but not unheard of.

Snake info

The snakes don't want to get close to her, must have something to do with her animal form. The fragmented information I do have tells me she may be hiding something, of maybe she just likes being alone. It may be paranoid of me to suspect her, but is it really paranoia if you were right in the end? I am not sure what to do even if she is hiding something, people hide even harmless things, it could still be nothing. Forced low surveillance, I may need bigger snakes.

Doughal McCreedy

Professor McCredy

Theaches Potions, well respected. I have no idea what he is saying half of the time, maybe more like 30% of the time? Regardless, he spends a lot of time making passive-aggressive comments about my cooking skills and using several metaphors to describe my skill. I don't know what his problem with me is, but I have to admit his vocabulary is impressive. The class overall is unusually competitive compared to the others, some students are very dedicated to the craft, but I don't mind since I just need to learn not impress the teacher.

Snake info

The snakes tell me he smells of giant, but that's not much of a secret. He also smells of coffee, also pretty well known. Doesn't seem to have much to hide, maybe the snakes just find him boring.

Simon Stan

Professor Stan

Theacher of the Divination course, considered crazy by many but also very skilled. I considered taking his course but the sudden change Professor Firethorn made to the curriculum left me with no time, so I can't speak of his competence from personal experience. All of his actions have a meaning, it's a shame that meaning is lost to anyone that isn't him, he would be a fascinating test subject but I don't have time to worry about these things now.

Snake info

He is a constant source of information from my snakes, his mad rambings and random gestures are usually tied to events of the past or future that could have a great singificance, or he could just spout what Tony will eat for breakfast tomorrow. After several missed attempts I decided to simply record everything my snakes bring me about him, it's more chaotic than even my normal notes but one day I may find the meaning of life hidden in these notes.

Minrathous Cicero

Professor Cicero

Accomplished wizard ailing from the not very distant land of Italy. Supposedly here to teach Charms, I have a feeling his aims are elswhere. Very strict teacher, classic Pureblood attitude and ideals, he doesn't seem to like me very much, but he still treats me well in class. So either he is very good at separating personal opinions from professional ones and he considers not teaching me a waste, or he just has a scowl stuck to his face and he doesn't really hate me. His personal spell is a marvel of mental Charm magic, I would love to learn it if anything just to take it apart to understand the process, but for now it's still illegal. The fact he still wasn't able to make it legal seems to frustrate him quite a bit.

Snake info

I don't have muchfrom the snakes about him, but I do have some happenings. He seems to frequently make use of his custom spell to delete petty and incosequensial things from memory every once in a while. I am partially resistant to this because of some natural skill but my snakes are not, they frequently report to me things I already knew because the professor deleted them. At this point I know what is happening but it was quite annoying at the start. This tells me that professor Cicero has a playful and petty side, which may be problematic for a variety of reasons.

Nicholas Firethorn

Professor Firethorn

Head od my House, teacher of Care of Magical Creatures. To be honest he seems quite obsessed with the subject, I suspect he knows more about animals than people. I can't really blame him, it's good to have something to be passionate about, and pepole are horrible most of time. He has more animals than I can care to remember, and that is on top of the ones he needs to care for because of his class, at the very least he seems happy with them. I am not the best at caring for these materia- creatures, but he opened my eyes to the utility they offer, I just need to finish renovations on my briefcase to properly house them, and of course I need to harve- aquire them.

Snake info

He takes care of my snakes sometimes, they are wild for the most part anyway. I think he knows of my network, I did use some snakes to hand in assignments before and he can also talk to the snakes, but henever complained about it. I am not sure if he tacitly approves or simply tollerates it but I will not complain about things going my way for once. He patrols the school in his monitor lizard form, maybe he took the name too literally, and tends to report students he catches unaware. The network usually warns me when he's near, and he has yet to give me detention yet. I need to tank him for those materials later, I still need to learn better how to prevent them from running away.

Students

Griffindor

Amalia Oceanborough

Amalia Oceanbourough (free spirit)

One of the first people I met at Hogwarts, or precisely on the train for it. She is free spirited, energetic, talented in transfiguration and an animagus. She is also lazy, petty, sometimes too independedant and barely shows up to class. She makes her displeasure with the schooling systems very well known among us students, and sometimes to the teachers too, and struggles to keep up with anything that doesn't interst her, I find it a miracle that she got to 4th year with me. Overall I don't think badly of her, I just think she would be more at home somewhere else, maybe the wilderness. Her relationship with her brother seems complicated, I wish I could do more.

Snake info

Frequently talks to the snakes, willingly recounting her adventures and troublemaking without a shred of shame. She is part of the reason I created the network as well, after all her stories too can be useful. She also plays with the snakes, I don't mind, they need recreation too. I hope her little stunts don't get her into more trouble than she can deal with, maybe I should make something to protect her just in case, an escape charm or something, even if transfiguration is more of her specialty. Maybe I worry too much.

Merlin English

Merlin English (unfortunate)

Outwarldy cheerful boy from muggle society, sometimes his expression darkens when people are not looking, I can't determine what kind of pain he hides but it must be deep. We met on the train as well, his help was appreciated. He has a tendency to get into trouble, some of his own making but most seems to seek him out instead, I have seen things that defy probability happen around him and I would not be surprised if lighting were to strike him twice in a row. Sometimes he acts differently, but refuses to aknowledge it, I am not sure of the reason but he seems quite grounded in both states which makes me think his situation is different from mine. Very studios despite appearances, his grades will probably be better than mine by the end of the curriculum.

Snake info

I was surprised to find so many Parsletongues here, but it did give me the idea to make a network not just for me. The snakes are mildly uncomfortable around him, must be because of his animagus form, but still talk to him. I fequently send him messages via the network, I am not sure how much use he gets out of them but he does at least seem to get caught less lately. Sometimes the snakes report him having a familar smell, especially the magical snakes from the Forbidden Forest, I am looking into what could be causing this but have yet to make any progress, if this continues I will have to bring it up with him directly.

Frank Lee

Frank Lee (determined)

Considered the worst student of most classes, but a really hard worker. The only thing he can do well is transmutation, but that he can do really well, everything else seems to escape him. I don't know what the problem is, he is not dumb, quite the opposite in fact, but he just doesn't vibe? with magic maybe. He did show some significant progress compared to his earlier years at least, and he doesn't look like he will stop anytime soon. His dedication to being better is admirable, even if I am sure some of our classmates would find it frustrating. From what I heard all Griffindors are supposed to be like him, but for now he is the only one, among the remarkable students at least.

Snake info

He is the one that supposedly smells like professor Travers, which may signify that they are related. My information network doesn't extend past Hogwarts so I can't know what his story was before coming here any more than he is willing to share, but I can find out some more by watching him closely. He seemed to have problems with his father, and isn't doing well financially. Reuniting lost family sounds like a good thing to do, but I would need to be sure they really are family, and that they do want to meet. Maybe I should meddle less in the family business of others.

Ravenclaw

Olympya Stalward

Olympya (magical mystery)

An incredible work of magic, whoever made her must have been very skilled. A living book, a boigraphy to be precise, made by adapting concepts of a Howler most likely. She is forced to be quiet by her own nature, but seems relatively at ease with it regardless. I am not quite sure if her impermanency is a planned component or simply a vestigial part of her origins, if it were me I would certainly not limit my creation in such a cruel way.

Snake info

She has a special snake with her, one that provides her with ink for her prefered method of comunication. She seems to be in a room with Minagi, I normally wouldn't send snakes into private lodgings but this information comes from Ivy. Olympia keeps to herself mostly, but she seems to at least tollerate her roomate. She also goes around providing instructions and supervison to random students, she seems to have some obsession with things beibg done correctly regardless of what they are. Suffice to say many don't appreciate that.

Alric Yaxley

Alric Yaxley (potion overdose?)

Seemingly perfect prodigy of the potion calss, bad at most other magics. His attitude and general view of the world seem to be skewed by the classic pureblood fallacy, but he seems to bring it to a different level. Nobody really has anything bad to say about him, he is pleasant enough and his potions are useful, but there is something strange about him, maybe that's just my paranoia speaking. Always searching for ingredients, more than he should need I feel but McCreedy keeps reminding me proper dosages so it could just be me.

Snake info

A lot of sightings of him in the Forbidden Forest, not that unusual considering his priorities but sometimes he seems to look more desperate than you would expect from a beloved prodigy. I even met him personally out there, without having to rely on the network, he seemed quite surprised, ot could have been the fact I was covered in snakes, I can never tell.

Minagi Sukasuka

Minagi (assistant, pending approval)

Transfer student from far away, Japan I think. Most of the school seems to avoide her, some are less kind than that even. She does have a peculiar predisposition for taking pieces of objects and people she is fond or curios of, it got her in trouble at times as well. I think it's fascinating, I understand why she would want to do it, I just wish she was more subtle about it as sadly the world is a cruel place for those that don't comform. Our interst allign is a surprising way, I would have never imagined finding someone that shares my curiosity. I heard some students calling her my assistant, I am not opposed to the idea but I am worried she may find it demeaning.

Snake info

The snakes gave me more details on her collection, not that I needed that. She often takes care of the air according to the network, they must be talking about her Thestral, an unusual pet to keep to the point most people don't believe she has one, I would be skeptical as well if I couldn't see it but I don't have that luxury. It's unfortunate that she isn't a Parseltongue, it would make comunication easier, we can use magic but the network is more convenient in many cases, and more discreet.

Tina Crouch

Tina Crouch

Half giant girl with a passion for potions, and life in general going by he general disposition to her classmates. She definitely fits her house, even if her admiration for the potions professor is a bit offputting. Getting past the general discrimination was not something I was not expecting, I don't have much hope for society but her positive attitude seemed to work relatively well. Her nature does give her some advantages in her choice of passtime, being almost three times the size of your opponents turns out to be quite the tactical advantage for a Beater, but also clearly causes some challenges, I wonder if studying her broom could help me in my experiments. Her story gives me hope, but being too optimistic will only bring despair.

Snake info

She is hard to miss so most of her movements are pretty much public knowledge. She is remarkably normal, almost boring really, but that's a good thing. The snakes keep telling me she is attracted to one of her housemates, I really need to figure out why they are so obsessed with this kind of info. It couldn't be Amalia's influence right?

Thomas P. Hippo

Tom Hippo

The most unusual student at our school, he transfered directly during third year, his family situation was complex apparently. Faced discrimination with surprising cheer and ease, suggesting he must have been used to it, muggles are apparently cruel to the different as well. He struggles with the basics but shows great aptitude for natural classes, I am starting to wonder if there is some connection between being an animagus and being good at caring for creatures, this requires further study is professor Firethorn refuses to answer me.

Snake info

I don't have much information on him, which is unusual since my snakes are everywhere. He disappears and reappears as he pleases, must be some powerful transfiguration at work and maybe even invisibility. I am certaing what he uses to evade surveilance and move around is illegal but I don't think it's a bad thing. The irony of it all is not lost on me.

Hufflepuff

Olive Ollivander

Oliver Ollivander (wandmaker)

The youngest generation of the famed wandmakers, has some innovative views of the world. He dresses in unusual clothers, supposedly muggle in origin, and listens to equally unusual music. I think we may have gone to at least one party at the same time, being both part of the great pureblood families, but we must have missed eachother, I was never particularly interested in socializing. He lives up to the family name at least, I suspect his situation to not be too dissimilar to mine, I at least hope his parents treat him better.

Snake info

Roumor has it that he caught the attention of a fellow Hufflepuff, but the snakes are not the most reliable for information on relationships. His music is very loud and scares the snakes away most of the time.

Ciaran Withehorn

Ciaran (Quiddich)

Heir to a broomaking bloodline, he seems almost more interested in using brooms than making them. His passion manages to bleed into everything he does, all for the sake of Quidditch. I really have nothing much to say in this case, I don't know much about the sprot.

Snake info

The most intetesting thing the network gathered is that he spends a lot of time with Oaklynn, but that's not such incredible information. If the snakes understood magic better I could at least log his experiments.

Oaklynn Barowe

Oaklynn (Charms)

I don't have a read on her. She threads a fine line between pride and anxiety, sometimes she challenges people head on and others she struggles to speak. She doesn't lack skills but clearly lacks real confidence. She is one of the reasons potions class is so competitive.

Snake info

Her gaze lingers on one of her housemates supposedly. Maybe I need to start worrying about why my snakes keep telling me these things.

Carl Heron

Carl (blacksmith)

A soul from the past, almost. Wzards tend to get stuck in the past and traditions, he somehow manages to both do that and progress at the same time. I respect his efforts and would like to exchange notes on materials, I am sure his metals can be used to make great tools, especially knives. He is also extremely focused on his work and studies so that makes approaching difficult.

Snake info

The attempts at using snakes to gather information on his techniques failed, turns out snakes don't know much about smithing and are really bad at describing technical processes.

Arthur Abbot

Arthur Abbot

A Hufflepuff with pureblood pride, this is really unusual. Other than that he is a nice fellow to have around, energetic and adventurous, I think he explored more of the area than me, the level of detail is yet to be determined. Having him around while exploring could be useful, but his attitude may cause problems in bigger groups depending on the members, he has time to change his ways but he need a good reason to.

Snake Info

He is seen all around the place, he covers so much ground you would think he can use Apparition. The network is a good way to keep track of interesting places thanks to him, after all if he lingers somewhere there has to be something there, he is to hyperactive to stop somewhere he doesn't care about.

Slitherin

Tony Rickets

Tony (gun)

A perpetually angry upperclassman. I am not sure what his problem is, most of the people that make fun of him are inconsequential fools with less than half his talent, he should be smart enough to realize they don't matter. He's obsessed with muggle projectile weapons, at least he modifies them with magic so they are not useless. I don't really understand what everyone else's problem with him is either, being this good at magic should at least be enough to be left alone if not accepted, maybe it's because of the way he reacts? The whole situation is baffling to me, but I think he needs a friend most of all right now. I am not the best choice, I don't think he likes me very much even if I never did anything to him, but I will help him if I can.

Snake info

The level of obsession he has for revenge is a bit worrying, the snakes tell me of the lenghts he goes to when it comes to getting back at percieved slights. He is also working on some enchanted muggle technolgy for apparently entertainement purpouses, he talks about the net sometimes but I don't think he means my snakes. I would love to study that, but I don't know how to bring it up, I feel like he wouldn't appreciate my network and could misinterpret my interest a mockery. He is getting close to Zach, I am conflicted about this, they both need friends but I also worry Zach to be too impressionable.

Veronica Pessfield

Veronica (focused)

Strange girl, very hardworking but focused on the strangest of things. She cares a lot more about setting up her life in the muggle world than attempting at making plans for the wizarding world. Very popular, possible Vela ancestry, needs comfirmation, somehow attracts mean girls. Her life as a muggle was apparently very privileged so it's not unusual for her to care about it, but magic offers so many more possibilities so it still makes little sense. Trying to understand her reasoning could be interesting, but getting to that point doesn't feel worth it, I would be attracting the ire of half the school and also would need to get through her mean girl shield. I am not good at social situations.

Snake info

Her car is parked at school, seems she has permission. If snakes could read I could get some info on what muggle education is like, I think her course is somewhat rushed however.

Zachary Oceanborough

Zach (younger sibiling)

Young prodigy, managed to hold his own against 5th years. Amalia's brother, they have a complex relationship that I am still not sure how to interpret. Calm and relatively quiet most of the time, tends to keep to himself. Praised by staff and classmates alike but I never saw him genuinely smile when that happens, it tends to have the opposite effect. I should try more direct methods of help, my usual ones are not suited for this kind of delicate matter, but he remains guarded around others. Stared getting close to Tony for unknown reasons, necessitates study.

Snake info

The fact he can't talk to snakes makes comunication slightly more difficult, it would have been easier to approach in that way. More worrying is that the snakes reported a very dangerous smell coming from him, the smell of a predator, but others also said that it was appetizing, the magical snakes were more interested in that but still wary. I am not sure what he's hiding, or how to help, I just hope he doesn't do anything reckless in search of recognition, or to prove something.

Tibbits

Tibbits (why? how? who thought this was a good idea?)

A house elf? A pretty big house elf so maybe part giant? I am perplexed by his presence here, I managed to scrounge some scraps of information on how he got here but I still can't believe this was approved. He has some very high ambitions so I guess he fits in with the Slytherin ideals but he is still a house elf. There has to be a better way to prove he can use wand magic and fit in wizard society, why does he even need to use wand magic in the first place? It's as if they don't really want him to succed.

Snake info

He has an unreasonable amount of frogs, and a lot of eggs. Now, I don't want to be prejudiced and paranoid but I can't really help with the second part, these seems like the materials to mass produce basilisks. He doesn't have Parseltongue so he wouldn't even have a slim chance of controlling them, and even if he did we don't actually know if Parseltongue is enough to control one or keep you safe from it's gaze. He can't be this reckless right?
