Full Thickness Burns

Full thickness burns (sometimes known as 3rd degree burns) are burns that burn through all 3 layers of skin.

First Aid tips

  1. Call 999.
  2. Check for any other burns or injuries.
  3. Evaluate the person for breathing and pulse.
  4. Remove any tight clothing from the burned areas but do not remove any clothing stuck to the burn.
  5. Elevate any burned areas above the heart if possible.

Do Not

  • Soak the burn in water
  • Wrap the burn in cling film
  • Wipe the burn

However do

  • Wrap the burn in a sterile bandage or cloth. Not too tightly.
