How to exploit your Wii with str2hax
Note that if your ISP prevents using custom DNS servers, the str2hax method wont work.
str2hax is an exploit for the Wii that gets triggered by loading the Wii's End User License Agreement. It requires only an internet connection that lets you change the DNS on your Wii.
Requirements:
- A Wii with a wired or wireless internet connection.
Instructions:
Section I - Connecting
For this exploit you need to set your DNS to a custom value in order to connect to a server that hosts the exploit.
- Go to
Wii Options.

- Go to
Wii Settings.

- Go to
Page 2, then click onInternet.

- Go to
Connection Settings.

- Select your current wired or wireless connection.

- Go to
Change Settings.

- Go to
Auto-Obtain DNS, then selectNo, thenAdvanced Settings.

- Type in
97.74.103.14as the primary DNS. - Type in
173.201.71.14as the secondary DNS. - Select
Confirm, then selectSave.

- Select
OKto perform a connection test.

- If the connection test was successful, select
Noto skip the Wii System Update.

- If it was unsuccessful, use another exploit.
- If the connection test was successful, select
Section II - Triggering the Exploit
- Go to the
Internetsection, thenUser Agreements, thenYes. - If you see a pony on the screen on a light blue background, you've set it up properly. Wait 1-2 minutes for the exploit to trigger (it should take around 1 minute and 25 seconds). The exploit will download the HackMii installer so you can continue.
If the HackMii installer doesn't load and instead freezes (unable to move your cursor) or it doesn't take 1-2 minutes to trigger, restart your Wii and retry the exploit.
Section III - Installing the Homebrew Channel and BootMii
Instructions
- You will see a scam warning screen, wait 30 seconds for the "Press 1 to continue" screen to appear, then press 1.

- When at the HackMii installer, you are able to install the Homebrew Channel and BootMii.
- Press Continue, then select the Homebrew Channel, and press install.

- Press continue when finished.

- Once installed, press back and go to BootMii.
- If the main screen says you can install BootMii as boot2, do so. This offers the best possible brick protection you can have. Skip this step if the option doesnβt show up, in that case your Wii is not one of the earlier models that supports it.
- Install BootMii as IOS, even if you already installed BootMii as boot2 in the previous step. If you couldnβt install BootMii as boot2, this will still allow you to create a NAND backup.
If you do not have an SD card, you cannot install or use BootMii, and therefore will not be able to utilize any of the mentioned benefits. You can always install it at a later date.

- Once done, select
Continue, and then selectExitto go to the Homebrew Channel
Required Reading
You can now use the Homebrew Channel to launch homebrew apps.
Hereβs a tip - when installing homebrew applications on your SD Card or USB drive, your folder structure should look like this:
πΎ sd or usb:
β£ π apps
β β£ π AppName1
β β β£ π boot.dol / boot.elf
β β β£ π icon.png
β β β π meta.xml
β β πAppName2
β β β£ π boot.dol / boot.elf
β β β£ π icon.png
β β β π meta.xml
AppName1 and AppName2 are placeholder names, Do not nest multiple apps folders inside the apps folder itself.
