Nick: Lore question that I thought of while thinking about a different topic for you, Vaporeanon: what language is d'Alin speaking?

d'Alin: English
d'Alin: Why do you ask?

Nick: The thought (latest of the chain, at least, from some topics of my own) that lead me to that question was the fact that Althi can read his lips perfectly fine.

d'Alin: Uhh I just assumed that it is all Enlgish in his mind but his body makes it come out whatever it is the natives speak. And vice versa for seeing it, perhaps?
d'Alin: At worst I'd just chalk it up to magic, because then how does Ikarus read lips :o

d'Alin: As for Ikarus, he's supposed to be a smart dude so maybe he's able to make associations? Or his mind does so automatically? Could actually make the lip-reading easier for him to pick up since it happened quick on my timeline

Nick: I think you mentioned something about d'Alin understanding words that Althi mouthed to him (about Pirth's racism), so it might just be an automatic process?
Nick: But they're your characters, so your domain in the end. It's definitely interesting to think about either way.

d'Alin: Considering that (I forgot lol) I would think it automatic, yeah. And while I suppose it is ultimately my own domain, this was really great to think about nontheless! Thanks for asking at all, Nick :)

Nick: That makes sense. It lines up with my own best explanations that the translation layer is primarily mental rather than physical/after-the-fact.
Nick: (That humons wouldn't even notice they're speaking a different language than they think they are until attention is brought to that fact.)

d'Alin: Mhm that sounds solid; an effect of pokemon physiology.

Nick: I've thought a lot about this topic in particular since, Nick couldn't read the local language upon arrival, even if he could speak it. (I'm not sure I actually mentioned it anywhere so far, but hopefully will publish some writing soon.)

d'Alin: (New story?! Fantastic! And yeah, my humon characters can't read (yet..?))

Toge: Based, interested in reading more of your stuff, Nick.
Toge: I've never really brought it up in my stories but Toge got the ability to read pokemon language when he got isekai'd.
Toge: Dewott didn't, so Toge had to teach him.

Chespin: Chespin doesn't even realize there are former humans that can't.
