Lennox Prompts Compilation

HPanons, what do your builds do in their spare time? Are they concocting any crazy potions or spells? Playing pranks on other students? Investigating the many secrets of Hogwarts?

And, say, what is your relationship with fellow students? We're especially curious to know about those outside your house.

Lennox tries to be friendly with most people, it takes a really bad person for him to not be at least polite. Of course his attitude doesn't always actually register as friendly, his nonchalant comments about how healty your veins looks may not exactly hit the mark. He considers most students sadly predictable (The ones without brilliant, and NPCs), He dislikes exploiting people but he doesn't consdier it a bad thing when done for good, the first years don't need to know why there is a snake in front of the secret passage or why many books in the common room sound strangely metallic when you hit them. He set up a sort of information network with all the snakes around the school, and sometimes sends messages to other Parseltongues with it, Fluffy gathers rumours while he works on other stuff.
His current projects are expanding his knife collection and making a better version of Diffindo, he knows Sectumsempera exists but it's not what he's looking for. Another ongoing project is the creation of a battlestaff, but he wants to make it more like a sword or spear, maybe a scythe, he's not sure yet for now he is just focusing on the effects, he will figure out the form later.
He spends a lot of time in the library but he mostly searches for hidden or forbidden knowledge, he is surprisingly open about it so a lot of people just ignore him, after all they can't tell him to not do something if he doesn't act suspicious, he just looks like any other student. His exploration of the school is random and driven by fancy, taking a detour from one class to the next, aimless wandering in the evening, that kind of stuff. He rememberst where he already was and tries to go new places, but he is a little paranoid of missing stuff so he does retrace his steps sometimes. He wants to make his own version of the Marauder's Map but he has more important projects for now.
The Forbidden Forest is just like the backyard to him, after all it's where a lot of his friends are (the snakes) and it's full of cool materials for his projects. His materials keep running away lately but that's nothing he can't fix. Professor Firethorn said that living materials are important so he started paying more attention to them, but he also said that they require special care so for now Lennox just studies the wild ones, some remodeling and more automation is needed to adapt the briefcase to them.
He found a trail of ruins in the forest that seems more important than the rest, he is not sure why but he just gets a strange feeling when there, like there is something important he needs to find. He also heard from the snakes that some of his classmates go there too, he may want to exchange notes with them on the topic, after all different perspectives are important when experimenting.
Lennox is perplexed at the state of the Slitherin house, he has nothing against mudbloods but the situation is different from what he was expecting, there is even a house elf, he still doesn't quite know what to think of that. The sorting hat almost put him in Griffindor, then it muttered "too many knives" and declared Slyterin, Lennox wanted to argue that there is nothing wrong with his collection but since he didn't care he kept silent. He thinks that Tony needs to open up more with others, but his attempts at conversations are usually met with wary glares and muttered curses. Veronica is a mystery to him, her reasoning is just incomprehensible, why care about going back to muggle school when magic offers so many more interesting opportunities? Zachary is somewhat of a sad case, he can tell that something is hanging over him, but he's not really sure if/how to help, for now offering advice is the best he can do, the snakes keep an eye on him. The sankes say some worrying things about Tibbits, but nothing he can really prove, the whole thing is very confusing, for now it's better to not interfere and quietly prepare countermeasures in the safety of the briefcase.
From other houses Lennox probably would interact the most with pretty much all the Hufflepuff PCs, since they are all crafeters of some kind. I particular with Carl, as his metalworking could prove very useful in improving the kinfe collection and open more possibilities for other weapons/catalists as well.
As already stated Lennox and Minagi would get along really well, considering the respective persomalities it would probably be Lennox that approaches her first with a proposal of things to cut up/ experiments, he has no problem with her tendencies and would encourage and support her activities by coming up with ways to minimize risks(to them of course).

Do you have any notable family? If so, what's your relationship to and with them?

Most of the Gaunt family is the classic Pureblood stuck up nobility, this version of it at least, I recently discovered they are supposed to be all dead, consider them a less self-destructive branch if you care about canon.

Mother and father are very conflicted about Lennox, he is undoubtedly a genius both in magic and in the normal sense but he is also insufferable, so they are stuck between pride and worry. They had to deal with his antics since he was young, not having a wand didn't stop him from doing magic anyway, old families like his always have a bunch of magic tools that don'trequire a wand to use, which he frequently stole to play and explore. It's also the reason why he wants to make wand substitutes, since he didn't have access to one when he would have needed it.
They also have to deal with the snakes he considers part of the family too, all with similar names to Fluffy like Squishy or Bouncy. He was sent to Hogwarts to get him out of the house, he didn't want to go and managed to drag his feet for long enough that he enrolled a year late so he's one year older than the rest of his class. Dinner conversation was like parrallel processing, each side keeps talking about something the other doesn't care about while ignoring the other. They are still family in the end so he cares for them and they do care for him, but they don't interact much more than necessary. Lennox doesn't hate them, but he does somewhat resent them for how they treat his sister, he thinks they could put more effort into curing her.
He has a younger sister, Madelyn, she doesn't go to school because of health issues. She's normal compared to him but he still influenced her making her less stuck up than the rest of the family. He's very protective of her and she is part of the reason he didn't want to go to school, he only relented because her health improved. She is also the only reason why he even goes back home on the holydays. On her part she looks up to him, but still considers him strange. The family treats her as the "Lennox translator" since she is the only one that bothers to understand him. She wants to go to school with him but still can't, her situation is stable enough for now so she's homeschooled. Lennox wants to find a cure for her condition but he also knows he is not really suited for it. He may resort to the Dark Arts if her condittion worsens.

He doesn't remember his extended family no matter how many times they introduce themselves at family parties, they are just not interesting enough to him. He doesn't even pretend to remember them like normal people would.
This was written before Studios was a thing, but I am not sure if I should change this because he may not count as extended family. The son of his father's brother and sister seems still close enough to not be extended family, but that's a cultural thing and mostly semantics at this point.

have you got any plans for life after Hogwarts? If not, what do you miss from your time before enrolling?

Lennox doesn't have any concrete plans for after Hogwarts, planning that far ahead is not like him, not for this kind of stuff at least. What he will actually do is probably more research and development, his experience with the ancient vault will make him discover that there is a lot more that the world forgot that could still be useful. What he does with that knowledge depends on his wims but probably some more weapons and combat spells, he is very much the personification of the whole "wondering more if we could than if we should" type of mad scientist, just for magic instead. He will almost certainly try to find some kind of way to be immortal, or at least ageless, probably based on charms since that's his highest affinity, it seems like it should be possible.

What he misses from school is also the closest thing to a long term goal he has, his sister. Despite not being good at it he is still researching something for her on the side. Lennox still has x3 to Defense and combining it with his Charms he should be able to find some way to cure her, but the relatively slow progress compared to his other projects frustrates him a lot. The only thing he is really missing is potions, so he is always looking for alternatives even if he knows that those would be the more straightfroward option.
He also misses his snakes, but they don't worry him as much.

Patronus

Lennox has a Runespoor as a patronus. If you know what it is you know why it fits perfectly. It's a 3 headed snake. It's also mad, has multiple personalities and is selfdestuctive, qualities that may or may not apply to Lennox too.

Quiditch potential role and stance (not a member of the club)

I think Lennox would be a good seeker, he has the best general reflexes in school unless I missed something and could be convinced to use his charms affinities to modify his broom too with a good reason. He does't care about Quidditch, but he likes helping people so he would participate in case of emergency.

What does your character think about the houses? Do they follow the rivalries? Do they try to act as a memeber of the house should? Do they even care?

Lennox couldn't care less about house rivalries and house pride, he sees them as needless instigation of conflict and prejudice. They are however useful to determine the character of a person in several different ways, the hat does tend to be accurate most of the time so certain traits do tend to appear more often in the different houses, that's a fact he can't deny. It's also useful to see how people react to the system itself, so he isn't completely opposed to it, even if he doesn't participate as expeted. Outliers and exceptions are particularly interesting, and lately there are a lot of those.

As for his personality it's ironically fitting for a Slytherin. He is not stuck up but he does have quite a bit of pride in what he does, he doesn't care about bloodlines but he does care about personal accomplishments. Because of this the point system doesn't really gel with him, but he does his best to at least not cause points to be detracted, his troublemaking is cleverly hidden so as to not influence the house, and even protects it if needed. If the house is supposed to act as one then he will treat it as an extension of himself, several students that should be punished for minor things find themselves miracolosly safe, that protection doesn't extend to detentions, they still need to pay for the consequences of what they did.

Lennox knows he is breaking the rules, he just doesn't care, this could also be seen as very Slytherin of him. His morality is questionable but he believes to be in the right, and would feel very bad if he were proven wrong.

He also protects his friends regardless of what house they are in, but he can't do actual miracles, his brilliant schemes can only go so far.

Your Character has to poly juice switch with another character, what is your characters most and least favorite option?

Lennox doesn't really want to do any of this, he is pretty happy being himself and any benefit from this would be too situational to lock in on a single person. But there are some intersting options, turning into Carl would let him look at his workshop and some of the projects laying around. His main idea would picking someone that he can help tho, someone like Zach or Tony, they have problems he thinks he could solve if he was them, the reality is a bit different and could end catastrophically but he is confident.

Least favourite would be any professor, he just doesn't want the responsibility, and he doesn't want the professors to find out what he's doing.
He would be fine becoming his cousin, it would be a strange experience but could teach him something. I don't rememebr the limits of poly juice potions, but it could even let his cousin be more legitimate if he can still use magic while transformed.

Fighting Style

Lennox has an evolving and situational fighting style, what he does depends on who his opponent is and what they let him get away with.

Against the average wizard he is very much like a snake, patiently waiting for the right moment to strike and just piercing all defense with empowered diffindo, the first strike is crucial because the opponent doesn't know yet that he can ignore most defense. The average wizard should not be able to block his spell so either with a single strike or with a barrage he should be fine. He also tends to cut off hands and arms instead of using expelliarmus, it's just more efficient, harder to fix in the heat of battle, and still not permanent damage because magic.

Against stronger opponents he starts getting more tricky, bouncing spells, pretending to miss, breaking up the terrain and charming the rubble, using reparo to bring back the pieces. This is still assuming he can only use spells.

If he is allowed to go all out then it's time for the knife storm. He is still working on better ways to control the knives (I was planning to put his experimental method in a writeup) but he still has some easy to use, if also easy to avoid, automatic knives, enchanted with different spells that either affect the knife, the person hit, or get shot like drone turrets. He also uses Fluffy to distract and attack the opponent, and making it catch the wand in case he gets disarmed. Ideally he would have some magic weapon instead of his wand ascting like a battlestaf would but more geared for specific spells rather than a broader increase in power but it's proving difficult to perfect the design. His style will get better with time, as he gets more/better knives, his real weapon, more training, a better way to control the knives, gets over his knife obsession so he can create more specialized and appropiate tools instead.

Rival rile up response

Lennox doesn't have a rival, I don't know who would even fit. He is pretty difficult to rile up, his detached attitude means something absolutely outrageos would need to be said for him to react. He is not immune to provocations, he just deals with them later in a more vicious way than he recieved.
It's pretty unlikely to happen but repeated insults to his sister would have the best chance to, or saying she will never be healed. Not many people even know he has a sister, Merlin and Amalia probably managed to pry it out of him and he probably told Minagi, and of course his cousin, but the family tends to not bring attention to her, it's shameful to have a sick child.

Mirror of Erised

A giant armory with all kinds of weapons and gear, with books on the ground, and a happy family. This would actually make him angry, seeing his sister healed without knowing the course of action to take is not a good thing for him.

how did you get the news that you'd be attending Hogwarts? How did you react?

I touched on it a bit already but Lennox didn't take it all that well. He was sure he could learn magic by himself given enough time and resources and didn't need a school for it, he would rather stay home and care for his sister, if she can't go the he will not either. It took a year of convincing, and his sister getting slightly better, for him to accept being away from home. That's why despite not liking the idea of having to study at school he still doesn't skip lessons if he can help it, he may as well get all he can from this place as long as he's here. Being punctual is more up to how he feels that day.

did the school surprise you in any way? Live up to your expectations?

He heard a lot from his parents in the time they were trying to convince him, and a little from before. Of course it was the very biased views of purebloods so he didn't really get a great impression. Being sorted in anything but Slytherin would have caused problems, he was lucky on the sorting day in that regard as the hat almost got him disowned, not that his parents support him that much right now. Everything is slightly better than what his parents described it as, the prominent students in his house are mostly muggle-borns since he got here and the attitude is somewhat softer despite the attempts from upperclassmen to stir trouble. The teachers are also not as elitist as he was afraid they would be, and the headmaster is surprisingly approachable, when you find him that is. He was not expecting to find Studios there, let alone as a teacher, but it was a good kind of surprise, Lennox knew his cousin was good with plant so he didn't have any problems with taking his lessons and didn't suspect too much nepotism was involved. Overall the school is better than he was told, but the most interesting parts of it are still the people and all the hidden secrets rather than what the teachers say.

Holydays

For Lennox back at home, mostly with his sister. As a pureblood he has to at least show up to family gatherings and official parties but he tries to minimize the time he has to pretend he cares about all those people he doesn't remember the names of. As soon as he's able he disappears from the party to stay with his sister.

Surprisingly his time at Hogwarts is filled with exploration and is in general more entertaining than he was expecting so he doesn't feel the need to explore around his home anymore, which gives him more time to spend with Madelyn. He made her an enchanted doll as soon as he was able to make sure she wasn't lonely and keeps upgrading it every time he visits her with his new knowledge. He also teaches her what he knows of magic, she is already homeschooled by her parents but he feels they are lacking. Lately the number of dolls in her room increased exponentially, Lennox is not sure where this sudden interest in dolls is coming from bu as long as she is happy he doesn't mind.

He takes a bit of time to take care of his snakes left home as well but he found them lazy and stuck up, his parents have been influencing them to be more in line with a poreblood lifestyle. He doesn't have the time to fix it now so he will have to think about it later, but he will not give up on his misguided family.
