PS1 Tekken (1-3) Netplay Guide

This document serves to get everyone on the same page about which files and what programs to use to play classic Tekken, avoiding things that can introduce desyncs or crashes wherever possible. Find matches on the Classic Tekken Netplay Discord Server.

Setup

All PS1 Tekken games can be played over rollback netcode with spectating via the DuckStation-Netplay emulator! This emulator also supports NAT traversal so no port forwarding is necessary, so it's the gold standard for PS1 Tekken netplay.

DuckStation Setup

  • Download DuckStation (Rollback)
  • Refer to the Setup Guide document to set up DuckStation for online play. Follow the instructions to Host or Join a netplay session!

Tweaks for Tekken 3:

  • Disable memory card when using the Unlock Hack ISO:
    • Global: Settings > Memory Card > Memory Card Type: "No Memory Card" in both slots.
    • OR Per-Game: Right click Tekken 3 in library > Properties... > Memory Cards > "No Memory Card" in both slots.

Troubleshooting

DuckStation Issues

  • Make sure that both players are using the SAME ISO, BIOS and DISABLE MEMORY CARDS (for T3) otherwise you will desync!
  • Check your BIOS:
    • Global: Settings > BIOS > "NTSC-U/C (US/Canada)" should be set to "SCPH-1001, 5003..." (SCPH1001.BIN)
    • OR Per-Game: Right click Tekken 3 in library > BIOS > "NTSC-U/C (US/Canada)" should be set to "SCPH-1001, 5003..." (SCPH1001.BIN)

ISO Verification

If your ISO hashes don't report the exact same as your opponent you may encounter desyncs with other users.

ISO Hash reference:

  • Tekken 3 (USA) Unlock Hack:
    • Track 1: 000e101daaf0cb7eb9bd327920571eb3
    • Track 2: 2605ec2d2b1aeae797816b851127307c
    • Track 3: c401e2c98525184e6d6be80bd40adbcc

How to check hashes in Duckstation: Right click the game in your library > Properties... > Summary > "Compute Hashes..." > Wait for the Hash fields to be filled out in the Tracks table.
