PSP Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection Netplay Guide

This document serves to get everyone on the same page about which files and what programs to use to play classic Tekken, avoiding things that can introduce desyncs or crashes wherever possible. Find matches on the Classic Tekken Netplay Discord Server.

Setup

Tekken 5 DR is currently only playable online using PPSSPP's Ad-hoc networking.

Due to limitations of the PSP version, you may not be able to play with your opponent if your latency is above 50ms.

Networking Programs

  • Radmin VPN - Easy way to avoid port forwarding for any programs.
    • Classic Tekken groups (some may be full):
      • Server 1: Name: Classic Tekken, Password: goodmorning
      • Server 2: Name: Classic Tekken 2, Password: tekken
      • Server 3: Name: Classic Tekken 3, Password: tekken

PPSSPP Setup

Emulator config

  1. Download the PPSSPP T5DR Netplay pack and extract it to a folder you choose.
  2. Run PPSSPPWindows.exe. Use "Browse..." to navigate to the folder where your Tekken 5 DR .iso file exists. An icon with Jin and others will show you the game is in this directory after picking it.
  3. Bind your controller by going to Settings > Controls > Control mapping, then click the + on each input to bind.
  4. Most settings will be configured for you with the pack, but the host needs to set up a server to join on:
    • As HOST: Go to Settings > Networking > Check "Enable built-in PRO ad hoc server", then click "Change PRO ad hoc server IP address" and type in your own IP from Radmin in the pop-up. Give this IP to your opponent.
    • As GUEST: Go to Settings > Networking > Make sure the "Enable built-in PRO ad hoc server" option is UNchecked, then click "Change PRO ad hoc server IP address" and type in your host's IP in the pop-up.
  5. After doing the above both players can start the game by clicking the game's icon on the main screen.

Using Network mode in T5DR

Skipping over the part where you create a profile and do the tutorial, it's important that the host enters Network mode first. The region you choose during setup should not matter.

  1. The HOST will go to Network > Battle Lobby, and should see "Network Initialized" at the top of the screen. If you see red text instead, restart the game. Inform the other player to join after you get to the "Battle Lobby" screen.
  2. The GUEST will go to Network > Battle Lobby after, and will see the other player in the lobby. The HOST must send an invite to the other player by pressing X and confirming.
    • If your latency is above 50ms you will probably not see the other user and cannot play.
  3. The host is in control of setting up the battle settings, then selecting NEXT to go to Character and Stage select.
  4. Play!

Troubleshooting

Checking latency in Radmin

You can check if your opponent is outside of the latency allowed by the game by finding their user in the group list in the Radmin window, right clicking and selecting "Ping". A command prompt window will appear with ping lines appearing, the "Time=" field tells you your ping to your opponent.

Generating a new MAC Address

If your opponent somehow has the same emulated MAC address as you, you'll need to generate a new one otherwise you can't connect. Go to Settings > Networking > Change MAC Address and click "Yes" then restart your game.
