Rio Bond Story Episode 3

Momotalk

R: A lot's happened, but I finally could catch a break.
R: I'm thinking of restarting a project of mine.
S: What project?
R: It involved creating something.
R: Perhaps it would be easier to call it "industrial design"?
R: It's quite hard to find space for it in my hideout... there's also the issue of ventilation.
S: So are you coming to Schale?
R: ...It is a bother?
S: Not at all!
R: Thank you... may I ask that you collect the luggage just like last time? It's helpful.
Delivery guy: Here's the 3D printer and ABS resin you ordered.
DG: Please leave your stamp here!

Night comes

R: Good evening
R: ...You're helping me out yet again.
S: This is what you ordered right?
R: Correct. Thank you. I wonder if there's any sufficiently ventilated space...
R: 3D printers produce harmful fumes during the printing process, but it's difficult to ventilate the hideout.
R: I think there's sufficient room to work with in Schale though. Thank you for the suggestion Sensei.
S: I wonder which space would work...?

You move into a white room

S: How about here?
R: There's large windows, so it'll work well enough. I'll borrow it.

She starts up the printer

R: It works. Let's stand outside. You'll be risk inhaling dust if you remain in there.
S: So what are you using the printer for?
R: Nothing specific, but I used it for a lot of prints like this.
R: But it's illogical to pursue a hobby. Unlike jobs or studies, they depend on likes and dislikes, do they not?
R: In other words, the objective output(I would assume she means value, in particular for society) has nothing to do with the objective input(effort, materials.) put into the process
R: Would it be alright for me to pursue such an inefficient action?
S: "There's no reason not to!"
R: You think so? Thank you.
R: But I still have concerns. Perhaps you've noticed some as well.
R: Which is the fact that my designs have failed to meet positive feedback. They pursue functionality and rationality, it seems this is unacceptable.
R: Perhaps my method of creation is wrong.
R: Maybe... no, definitely. The world is made up of probability and statistics. The data in this case deems me incorrect.
S: ...!
S: I don't think so/If you put your all into it, it's art no matter what anyone says!

Rio gets a big brain moment

R: ? Art?
R: Me? making art?
R: ...I, I never thought of it that way.
R: After all, art is subjective. There's no room for objectivity in it.
R: In the sense that my art was "difficult to define" no one has ever said that it was plainly "wrong".
R: Yes, that's right.
R: Art... I was creating art with an artistic motivation.
R: I... I wasn't wrong.
S: Um... yes?
R: You always astound me with such ease.
R: As expected of [Sensei] I suppose.
R: You live ahead of everyone else. That's why you can guide people and show what they lack... that's why you are...(Note: Her smile is beautiful.)
S: R-rio... are you okay?
R: I-it's difficult to define... but this is the first time i've ever felt emotion like this.
R: All I've ever thought of was how to accomplish something, calculate the process, then enduring through it, but...
R: Now... as long as I'm by your side, I can feel this way...

The 3D printer has finished

S: Let's have a look
R: Yes... um, Sensei.
R: Don't turn around, just listen.
R: I was overjoyed to hear what you said.
R: Thank you.
As I watched Rio's shrinking figure as she walked off, art filled my head.
